Blackhawk Golf Club
About
Blackhawk rests on the site of an old dairy farm, where the rolling terrain is suited for this links-style layout. This wide-open course features lots of water, loads of bunkers, and huge greens that are easy to three-putt if your approaches are off and you don’t have that feel for lag putting.
Each side has a punishing finishing hole. No. 9 is a monstrous par 4 that plays 464 yards. Off the tee, the narrow landing area is not conducive for the necessary booming drive, and the water causes problems in the fairway and around the green.
Hole 18 plays 430 yards, requiring a tee shot into the dogleg-right fairway that must thread two bodies of water.
The club prefers that you walk only on weekdays.
Getting there : Take I-35 north out of Austin, then exit FM 1825 east. Drive 5 miles to Hwy. 685 and turn left. Drive another 2.5 miles to Kelly Ln. and turn right.

Nasty condition
Blackhawk is typically in pretty rough shape, but one can overlook that because they are one of the cheaper greens fees in town and have regular availability on the weekends. But this weekend the conditions were so bad it crossed the threshold to being unplayable. No longer worth it. Greens were basically just hard packed dirt, fairways weren’t any better.
Looks like they've given up.
I can't believe they still call this a golf course and change $50+ to play this thing. I wouldn't even call it a cow pasture because cows eat grass. There is no grass. I know now why this was the only place I could find an open time on a Saturday on short notice.
My first round in Texas was disappointing
I booked a round for just $30 through a GolfPass membership, expecting the kind of quality I’d seen at that price point in Phoenix. I even told myself I wouldn’t be disappointed. At the first hole, I thought, 'Okay, this isn't too bad.'
But as the round went on, the fairways turned into a muddy mess, and the greens were in terrible shape. Well-struck tee shots would take huge bounces and end up lost in the bushes, and the putting was honestly soul-crushing. I ended up finishing about five strokes over my usual score.
If it hadn’t been for my partners, who were incredibly polite and witty, I don't think I could have finished the round. I wonder if the course will improve when the weather gets better, but honestly, I highly doubt it.

Great value for the money. The greens are decent but a few fairways are hurting. Overall great course for the money.
Go to ANYWHERE ELSE
I’ve lived in Austin for almost 20 years and I’ve played this golf course doesn’t sometimes and it is literally the worst possible condition you can imagine. The worst thing is when you bring up the conditions to anyone that works there. Their response is simply to say that it’s the average price for a golf course around town and blaming it on inflation. It is a fun layout at the location is decent, but they have actually gotta start doing something to fix this golf course or otherwise they should just blow it up and add houses.
Yea reviews are true
Fairway are solid mud, greens look like it ain’t been watered for years. if you do decide to play it, I’d like you to play a game, keep count of the holes that relatively green all the way and if you get past 3 you win. Absolute robbery for the price they charge, 15-20 would’ve maybe suffice.
Could be so.much better
Playing with a beginner is the only reason I would play here. The layout is great the course condition any time of year I horrible except for the greens which I would give a three star rating. I think its beyond saving needs complete renovation.
Worst course
Fairways were basically dirt over at least 40-50 percent of the course. Greens were like Omaha Beach.
Fairways cut level . No crabgrass. Greens improved immensely. TBOX next project.
Don’t waste your money
This place is not worth a dollar. All fairways are mud and rocks, the staff is extremely unfriendly, and I was unironically asked to hurry up by the marshal walking off the first tee box after teeing off 5 minutes early.
Needs work
The greens have issues. The fairways have issues. There is maintenance being done but isn’t cleared each day. The layout is great excluding hole 10(nets needed).
Family Friendly Fun
Very nice beginner course, perfect for our family with teens learning to play! Well maintained fairways/greens/path and generally straight/easy shots off the tee box with some gentle water features. We played 9 because of time and will be back to try all 18.
Crab Grass in Fairways are back. About 3 Greens are playable.
