The “Mo Willie,” Austin’s third municipal course, has some character: it served as the home of Harvey Penick’s legendary golf teams, two of which won NCAA Championships back when Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw graced the fairways. And it’s named after Morris Williams, Jr., one of the best golfers to ever come out of the city. Now Austin’s airport has moved south, and this difficult Leon Howard design is a bit more peaceful.
Howard’s layout requires all types of shots, and is known for its small, slightly elevated greens. The best hole on the front is the dogleg left, 540-yard No. 2, even though some would argue that the 187-yard No. 3 is one of Austin’s all-time best. It drops 50 feet from tee to green over a pond. The back side is highlighted by water holes 11-14, with both 11 and 12 requiring approaches over the wet stuff.
Getting there : From the Austin Airport, turn left on Manor Road and the clubhouse is 100 yards down the street. The entrance is on the right.

Solid Track with a Local Feel
Played mid-May — course was in good shape with a relaxed vibe. Layout offers enough variety to keep things interesting. A solid choice for a casual round near the city. Will definitely be back.
It was okay.
Tee boxes were shabby and the greens were overgrown with some kind of weeds that made putts bumpy.
Morris municipal
Really fun course that gives you some interesting and different challenges all a round. Course is in great shape this early into the season which means it’ll be in prime conditions for summer. I’ve golfed at Morris a few times and have never had a bad thing to say about the course or staff. The food/cantina house is also awesome. Plenty of room and great staff. Will return, hopefully with a better golf game.
Almost perfect time for golf
I love Mo Willy, it’s long been my favorite city course, I’ve played here 50+ times. I love this time of year, course is maybe two weeks away from absolute flawless conditions. I always get here early to eat a delicious taco and warm up. The pro shop staff are always so friendly and pace of play was great yesterday.
My ONLY complaint is with the bev cart girl, it seems like she doesn’t want to make money or she is clueless. We saw her 3 times in 18 holes and every time she’s way off to the side and basically flies by without stopping. They need to train them to post up in the proper place and get out and greet people. We would’ve bought something each time if she did things right. But we’re not gonna chase down the cart girl, the private clubs know how to sell better.
