ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Won't return
Conditions have deteriorated since last year. No sand
in their divot tubes, some fairways being aerated and muddy, greens rolled OK, but just not as in good shape as a year ago.
Pass
Fairways all chewed up, greens need grass in some spots cut in others and just normal maintenance.
Tricky Challenging Layout Played Fast
Staff super friendly and accommodating. Provided course layout and guidance for first time player. Excellent rental clubs at good price. Free water bottles added bonus. Course in excellent condition but quite challenging.
A good walk spoiled
Musta been a ton of rain the day before because the cart paths on #1 and 10 were underwater and we had to drive all the way around to get to tee boxes. I’ve played this before under similar conditions. However, the course drains extremely well with only standing water in sand traps. Cart path only meant needed exercise for a tubber. Slow play due to cart only but s 6 hour round just did not seem that long. Staff are great!
Excellent course condition
They are putting a lot of efforts to improve the course condition lately. It is getting better and better. I highly recommend this course for a serious golfer.
Great Course
Thunderstorms passed through the night before, so the first 9 holes were cart path only. The next 9 holes also had several cart path only holes. That greatly slowed the time of play. The course is in good shape, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I am just returning to golf after over a year layoff due to physical issues.
The Course Time Forgot
This is a fun course with a challenging layout but there are signs of neglect everywhere. To their credit, the greens keepers have done a nice job keeping the greens in decent shape but most of the rest of the course is vegetation run amok. Still, for the price, Shadow Glen offers a fun round of golf without having to drive an hour to get there.
Will be playing this course again
Nice carts, well maintained cart paths and course. Staff is helpful and respectful. Beer cart is a huge plus as well!
Slow Play is OK but not when your trying to get in before Dark
When I went in to pay for my round I was told that they had just finished a tournament. I thought awesome, an open course to play, nice. That lasted all of 3 holes. I was stuck behind a foursome that was very slow. It was even more awesome when I was sitting on the tee box behind them and they were hitting multiple balls. It was like being stuck in traffic on I-35. Move 5 ft wait , move 5 ft wait. There wasn't a marshal on site to regulate play. I think they are very short staffed. I was unable to get into the pro shop because they only had 1 person there to run the snack shop.
Gorgeous, challenging course
I showed up to the course and realized my clubs were stolen the night before. The staff was super friendly and helped get me set up for my round with rental clubs. I was very happy I stuck around to play. The course was in very nice shape, and the greens were in much better condition than the local munis. The course was challenging and long. I highly recommend.
Course was very soggy/muddy despite little rain in the last few weeks, some tee boxes looked overgrown, greens were ok with some dead spots starting to form. Interesting layout but difficult for a first time player to have any idea where to hit your shots to. Not a great deal for the $ and distance from Austin so doubt I’ll play there again. I have more fun at clay or Kaiser for 1/3 the price and a course that is in better shape.
Course is in terrible condition. Seems like they have stopped spending money on weed control and fertilizer, greens need a lot of help as well. This course has a great layout and has usually been well maintained, sad to see it in this condition.
Always a great challenge
Again, I drive 90 miles one way to play this course. It is one of my all time favorites. For the price, it’s a great challenge. Yes, the course was dry but this year has been dry. I have heard from many quality players about how penal the front nine is. Well, I wish both nines were designed so uniquely! I am a senior who plays from the gold tees and should play forward. But I paid for the real estate and I want this course to bring me back to reality! It was very busy today and carts were slow coming in but that’s not the staff’s fault. It’s due to slow play and unfortunately, no Marshall is available during twilight. For those who can’t stand slow play, have a few beers, chat with the young ladies who serve you, and realize you could be at work instead.
Shadow Glen
Hadn't played this course in years and then it was a fairly nice golf course. It has really gone down-hill since then. I know the course shut down for a couple of years and maybe they are slowing getting it back to it's original condition. Our round too 5 hours and we didn't see a marshal anywhere one the course. Staff was friendly.

everything was ok, with the exception that the course was dry.
