The Atchafalaya at Idlewild

I’ve played this course several times over the years since it’s about a 45 minute drive for me. This course is a beautiful course but it is extremely neglected. I had a day off and decided to play a round by myself. I thought since it was thanksgiving week, there may be a crowd and I might get put in a group. But when I arrived at 9am the course was basically empty. The biggest issue is the greens! They are unplayable! I might have had 3 or 4 putts that were not affected by the poor conditions. The sand traps weren’t great, but it had rained the day before so maybe that had some effect. Overall care of the course is poor. Signs knocked down, tee boxes not marked clearly, and just not well kept. The staff were great and practice areas were good. Again, this is a beautiful course with so much potential, but it needs some TLC!!!

I have played this course many times. Fairways and rough was in good condition. Greens leave alot to be desired with crusting and sand on most of the greens.

I love the layout of the course. It needs work. Fairways are great. Some of the greens are just terrible. The sand is ok but not the white soft sand you find at top tier course. The tee boxes are ok. If you get the hot deat rate it's worth it but the regular is to high for the overall condition. To bad, it could be a top tier facility.

Course is in extremely bad condition, 3 holes were posted unplayable and wasn't notified about it when checking in

5 holes closed, greens not maintained. Seen it in a alot better condition. Played 6 holes and left. Really is a beautiful course but it needs some love

Course a little dry from no rain in last few weeks but greens are the best of the courses I have played recently.

The course is in its worst shape it’s ever been in. The greens are slow and terrible. 3 greens are not even playable so they closed all 3 holes (2,5, & 13). You would think they would offer a discount for 3 closed holes but NO they did not. I will not play here again anytime soon. Horrible. They sure miss Jacob as a pro. He took care of the course and got it better until they ran him off. Terrible management and board.

Greens need a lot of work and replanting.

Like the course layout and staff personnel and restaurant are very good and friendly.

Many of the greens had been damaged recently and some were unplayable. Course layout is nice with lots of trees and water. Some of the sand traps were in good condition and some needed more sand

I loved the course layout. But the grass was tall, the grass clippings were not removed, making it next to impossible to find your ball, just off of the green. Several of the Tee Boxes were over grown and did not have color markers. I would play here again, but would be a much better experience if these easy fixes were made and kept up.

THIS IS A GREAT COURSE BUT IT NEEDS LOVE FROM THE PARISH.

I have played this several times over the past 10 years and I must say this is the worst condition I have experienced. If I had not booked a Hot Deal, I would have been thoroughly upset to pay have paid $60. I should have had a clue when I tried the practice greens, which are overgrown and have weeds.

The tee boxes are overgrown and some are just sand boxes. The fairways are like the first layer of rough. Half of the greens have large patches of bare areas and there are insects crawling around that look like small worms. I'm not sure what is happening, but the course needs some major attention.

The positives are the staff and the sand traps are in much better shape than 3 or 4 years ago. I hope the course gets back to it's championship course days. It has a great layout, location and clubhouse. It was once my favorite in the area.

I am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at this golf course. The tee boxes that are currently open are in poor condition, and the rough areas are neglected, resembling overgrown hay fields rather than well-maintained terrain. The greens are in even worse shape, with several having significant issues that render them nearly unplayable. Unfortunately, there seems to be no clear plan or effort to address these problems.

Having been a member for several years, it’s disheartening to see that the management and board of directors either lack the competence to resolve these issues or are not using the funds appropriately. There is a noticeable lack of oversight and accountability, which has led to a decline in the course’s overall quality.

It is truly a shame to witness a course with so much potential being overshadowed by poor management and maintenance. The only aspects thriving here appear to be incompetence and weeds.

This course has the potential to be a great place to play but it needs lots of work. Most of the greens are patched and a few had no grass at all. The tee boxes are un level with holes in most of the them. Fairways are overgrown to the point that it is possible to loose balls in the middle of the fairway. I would love to see this course become what it once was.

I played Atchafalaya for the first time in several years. When i checked in the the staff failed to mention the course was nearly unplayable. A couple of greens were non-existent and burned out and several other greens were nearly unplayable. Tee boxes were also nonexistent - on every hole. Further, the amount of cut grass left on the edges of the fairways and in the rough made it impossible to find balls that were even slightly off the fairway. Front desk staff should inform patrons of the condition of the course. Not worth the price...and will not be back.
