Four Mile Ranch Golf Club sprawls across a stunning landscape of gently rolling hills. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the terrain and doesn't use any formal bunkers, in their place are white shale ridges called hogbacks. They can range anywhere in height from 3 to 30 feet and they're not even the golf course's only distinctive feature. The layout winds through natural rock outcropping and a number of mini canyons. It's as challenging as it is scenic, though, with several blind shots and intimidating greens, none of which are more daunting than that on the memorable par-5 sixth. This tough green is obscured by huge rocks, testing not only your skills but also your ability to strategize. Four Mile Ranch G.C. offers a golf experience like none other in the area.

Short, but a challenge

First time playing this course. There were no maps or a layout of the 18 holes. Some of the greens were hidden behind mounds of rocks, so actually knowing where to hit and distance to the pin was tough. No flat greens and rolling fairways made this course harder than it looks. Lastly, stay on the well manicured fairways!!!

Tricked up yet still fun

I've played this course several times and it is almost always in good condition. The course was good but I can't seem to look past all the blind shots, aiming at poles and hoping for the best. I hit a great 8 iron on the first par 3 hit the flagstick and end up about 7 feet for birdie. One of my playing partners hit about 40 feet left of the pin and rolls to about 2 feet. Tap in. Tricked up!

unique course that rewards distance accuracy.

this is one of the most unique courses you will ever play wide fairways give you great opportunity to get to greens in regulation. most greens are ungulated with quadrants and if your accurate with your distance you are rewarded when the ball rolls back to the hole very well maintained course. greens roll very well, course in excellent shape with very friendly staff and one of the most value for your money.the only downside to the course was a lot of mosquitos bring your bug spray.

Still Enjoy

Four Mile Ranch is on our list of "must play" courses each time we visit from Ireland.
Jim Engh has created a challenging course that is enjoyable and memorable.
We were not disappointed on this visit. The course is in great condition and you must think your way around the full 18 holes.
The 14th hole...Par 3...I am informed is based on the "klondyde" from Lahinch and it is just as much a challenge. You must take aim and trust your swing.
The staff were welcoming, as if we were old friends returning.
We will be back. Thank you .

great place to play, it was fantastic.

Golfers can expect uneven lies as well as scenic views, an oasis in this area of Colorado. Whoever designed the layout, which includes an interesting variety of holes.

Unique

I'm fairly new to golfing and am only in my second season of play. That being said, this course was challenging but definitely doable for my skill level. I birdied a par 5 and parred 5 holes so overall it was a hoot. What I like about this course is that it is very well maintained. I could read every green and the ball would actually travel how it looks (unlike some other courses in the area). The staff is informative about how to play each hole, the views are gorgeous, it has a fun layout, and the price is reasonable. I enjoyed all of the course except for one hole, and that was a blind par 3. I'm not sure why the designer did that, but it was a stupid idea. Also, the elevation change for each hole added a new challenge to golf for me (I'm used to the flat courses of the midwest and Pueblo). This was a fun course and I will definitely come back.

A rollicking round of golf.

A great course as long as you have a guide along who has played it before. Course in great shape; fairways plush and greens roll true, although a bit slow. Probably a good thing with all the humps and bumps in them. Sometimes feels like you are playing a miniature golf course - lots of rolling fairways, blind approach shots, and even a blind par 3 where your aim at a pole on a hiil. Some may hate it, however it is a fun and challenging round of golf.

July @ 4 mile ranch

greens and fairways in pretty good shape. a few tee boxes are a little rough.

Course is full of tricky elements that make for great conversation with the post round beverage but those same things make it too tricked out to be a "favorite". None the less, always an enjoyable round there and well worth the trip.

really a great course with risk/reward value.

If you have a Business Associate you want to show a good time to, with a stunning view to keep the chatter going, this is the course. if you've played Wolfcreek in Mesquite NV, this course is very similar

Buitiful course on the midle of "nowhere"

I playing this course approximately twice a year (have a cabin an hour drive). I was so impressed from the very first time I played there- what a treat! But now I am very concerned that this course
will turn to one of the average one: a lots of weeds, especially on the t-boxes. I hope that this never happened and we all will be enjoying this one!

Great views worth the drive

Four Mile is outside of Canon City, CO, and has well maintained fairways and greens. Course is still recovering from a cool spring, but in very good shape overall (we played Memorial weekend). The areas off the fairways a dead, making playing out of trouble impossible. If you don't stay on or near the fairway, bring balls - you may not find yours. Many fairways are wide and inviting to offset the trouble that is off them. It is built like a desert course in that way. It can be hot and dry in this part of Colorado, so hydrate well before and during play. The views from the tee boxes and greens show large spans of mountains and foothill plateaus. You will encounter 4-5 holes with blind shots to the greens. Trust you distance and the aiming stakes! Have fun.

A friendly, quirky course. Usually in pristine condition.

The course has some early season issues, but it appears they are trying to get them solved. Greens are in great shape and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
