Four Mile Ranch Golf Club
About
Four Mile Ranch Golf Club sprawls across a stunning landscape of gently rolling hills. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the terrain and doesn't use any formal bunkers, in their place are white shale ridges called hogbacks. They can range anywhere in height from 3 to 30 feet and they're not even the golf course's only distinctive feature. The layout winds through natural rock outcropping and a number of mini canyons. It's as challenging as it is scenic, though, with several blind shots and intimidating greens, none of which are more daunting than that on the memorable par-5 sixth. This tough green is obscured by huge rocks, testing not only your skills but also your ability to strategize. Four Mile Ranch G.C. offers a golf experience like none other in the area.

A Zen Experience
I have been driving from north of Colo Spgs to play 4 Mile Ranch for the past 4 years as often as possible. It is my FAVORITE course of any that I play in CO, MD, VA or AZ. 4 Mile Ranch is almost always beautifully maintained. It is a FUN course with challenging hole designs and many elevation changes. I love that it requires accuracy and thinking rather than just big hitting to play this course well. One of the other features of 4 Mile Ranch that I cherish is how PEACEFUL it is to play - no traffic noise, no exhaust fumes, no streets running through it. Just the sounds of the birds and the bugs and the beautiful wildflowers in season. This course is a MUST PLAY for anyone who appreciates beauty in the golfing experience.
Gorgeous desert course with great views
Nice course with great layout and contrasts between rough (scrub and local native bush) and green fairways and greens. Challenging tiered greens, a good challenge for all players
Unbelievable views
Great condition- challenging- super super staff- unbelievable views- my favorite course- I tell everyone about it!! Cant wait to golf here again- a nd again!!
This course is very well maintained.
This course is very well maintained! Along with a very friendly staff and quick pace of play, this is a favorite (out of town) course to play. Did I mention the fantastic views from almost every hole!!!
Typical Jim Engh design - love it AND hate it!
I always expect a challenge in a Jim Engh design (Fossile Trace, Red Hawk Ridge, etc) but this was almost too much. The "hidden" greens on several holes, including a couple of par 3's, are not for the nervous knocker. My personal GPS plus the course book they provided (no charge) helped a lot but I still lost two balls on shots I thought were about perfect. Then the dinosaur carcasses he put under most greens made for a thrill ride putting. But the course condition, layout and views plus a great GolfNow rate made for one of my most memorable outings of the year. I'll go again; with plenty of ammunition!
best course in the valley
the greens are always in good shape. sometimes they are inconsistent from hole to hole. fairways are in great shape, minus some dry spots where the water runs off. tee boxes are in fair condition, but par 3 boxes are pristine. love the layout. it is a risk/reward course all the way through. bring a club you can beat up, cause if you get out of the grass you could be hitting out of some rough stuff.
Very challenging greens, but lots of fun.
Great and challenging. Only complaint would be the carts. Check them out before you start. We had to change 3 time because of various problems. Even then the cart we chose had no water in the ball washer. When we put water in it we discovered there was no plug so it wouldn't hold any water. Still a great value.
Fun course to play but don't expect any extras
Heard the course was fun and challenging with a lot of blind shots and interesting dog legs. Definitely true! Made the round fun and left me with the desire to come back since I now have an idea of how the course plays.
Now the no frills part... Two bottles of water came with the cart - thank goodness for that! It was 96 degrees and we drank what was provided in addition to the water we brought. There was no water on the course for us to refill and there wasn't a beverage cart making rounds. In my opinion, there should have been someone offering water as the temperature approached 100 degrees.
As mentioned by other reviews, there's no clubhouse and the operation seems to be run on a shoestring budget - which is fine if they're trying to get established and grow (just know that going into it). We were told to check in with the starter, but there wasn't one to be found. He finally caught up w/ us on the 5th hole, I believe.
While there's room for improvement from an operations standpoint (which I'd like to believe they're working on), the course is fun to play and was worth the drive from Colorado Springs. Bring plenty of water!!
Hidden gem
Four Mile Ranch was a very fun and challenging course. We had the second tee time and played in about 3 hours. The course was in great shape and the green were awesome. It is a very fun course that requires you to hit a variety of different shots. The staff was friendly they just don't have a big clubhouse. They did have a cooler to buy drinks at good rates. I definitely recommend this course for anybody that wants a fun round on a very nice course.
Unique course
Fun course to play. This is about our tenth trip from Denver to play the course. It was actually in better shape than its been in years.
Fun
I visited Colorado and found this course an hour from where we were staying and it was well worth the trip. My wife and I both enjoyed the course immensely.
The course was in great shape and the scenery was perfect. The greens are a challenge, but are definitely fun to try and figure out as were the few blind shots to the greens.
We did wish there was water on the course and that they might have a better club house, but the golfing experiences was one of the most enjoyable I have ever had.
Fun course
Course has some challenging holes but if you hit the ball well you can score low. There appeared to be no monitoring of the pace of play. Got behind two sloooow foursomes and the round took forever. A phone call finally got the course marshal out to talk to the slow players.
Some more great Engh work and trickery
The course was in great condition even with the hard dry winter it had. If your golfing includes a great clubhouse experience, don't go. The club house takes payments and that's about it. If you golf for the love of the game, challenge and scenery, you must go. Engh has done another great job using the landscape and building a beautiful course where you wouldn't think possible. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed Engh's tricks and blind shots. Very entertaining! We'll be back!
Great landscape, wish it wasn't such a remote location
The course is in very good shape. It'd be nice if the course had drinking water, and a working clubhouse.
The course was in very good shape.
The course was in very good shape. The greens are very challenging. I would recommend the staff place ice in the containers located on the carts so the free bottle of water is cold and NOT hot. Also ice seemed to be a shortage on this day as beverages in the beverage cart was cooled by melted ice. With the shortage of water containers throughout the course and very warm temperatures, having a cold beverage was needed.
Absolutely beautiful course
Four mile is my favorite course in Colorado. Well manicured grass and so challenging. Everyone should play four mile once to experience just how fun Colorado
golf can really be.
Very challenging
Rather than keep score by counting strokes, I kept score by how many golf balls I lost. I lost nine balls but I found eleven while looking for my lost ones. Fairways are narrow, greens are multi level, and there is quite a bit of elevation change. I really like this course, will recommend it to my friends, and will definitely play this again.
Unique layout, great shape, decent pace of play
I read the course had some unique features, but until you play it, you don't realize fully what they mean by undulations.
The good. The course was in really good shape. Fairways are wide where they need to be, and make it fun when you try to go for it. Good risk/reward factor. The views and terrain are really nice as well. The pace was acceptable. I don't feel like they over-loaded the course, though they did harass us in the morning slot for being behind the pace, which we weren't
The bad. I am all for the "undulations" that make a course interesting, but these were a bit over the top. Most seemed to be like excessively large bowls that funneled the ball to specific spots, making approach shots less meaningful and not rewarding good shots or punishing bad. A couple of holes had greater than ninety degree approach angles into the green. This effectively dictated what types of shots you had to make.
Overall: It was fun. Great shape. A nice departure from the typical layout. I would definitely play again and would recommend if as a different type of experience.r
Challenging course
Very good course with some challenging greens and blind approach shots to greens.
