Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Fairways bad greens great price great
Had a fun day at the course, the price was too good to pass up for 18 with a cart. Staff was super friendly. They with the have the lounge open, but we didn’t partake. Greens rolled great and we’re in good shape areas around the green we’re good Fairways were pretty bad bear brown. Course layout was pretty nice .all in all for the price we paid we had a good time, knowing in advance that the fairways might be a little lacking..
High Potential
This course has a great layout…could be a very nice course. However, it requires a lot of work to get grass consistently in the fairways and on the tee boxes. The irony is that most of the greens are in really good shape…and the traps have nice sand (although they were totally flooded from heavy rain when we played there…no one’s fault except the bad weather).
I’m hoping that someone is putting money into the course and step one was to get the greens up to spec because that has pretty much been accomplished…now need to do the fairways and tee boxes.
good greens and enjoyable layout
The good greens are in good shape. The layout is enjoyable. The fairways are typical Florida fairways in January with a lack of green grass.
Chilly Day at the Links
Very cold clear day. Greens ran true yet a bit slower than usual. A few traps need better drainage. Fairways really need some TLC. Friendly staff the nastiest bathroom facilities maybe next to prison . This place would be 5 stars if they would only invest some money in the upkeep. Seems like they might be waiting for a buyer to purchase and build housing.
Nice layout
Good value and good course. Greens were in great shape and medium fast. Third year as a snowbird in the area and we’ll play this course again.
The bath rooms on the course and also in the clubhouse are in terrible condition. It is not possible to use them because of garbage, dirt, malfunctioning, etc. I have never seen something like that before. The problem is that the situation has not changed over the last month.
Please control tee times / pace of play
On the first nine the pace was good but on the back nine we had to wait 10 minutes every hole to tee off. No ranger made any rounds during the entire time.
This is a fun course to play, but expect to wait a long time.
I had a 10:30 teetime but got there at 9 o’clock to hit some range balls. I stopped and talked to the starter and he told me I could go out right behind a group at 10 o’clock which was perfect. I got to the Teebox and there was two older women and an older gentleman, who I asked if I could join with and had most enjoyable days of playing golf in Florida over the holidays fairways were a little rough greens were in great shape
The Good. The Bad. The Ugly.
THE GOOD: Nice Desmond Muirhead golf design, with plenty of challenging holes. Nice healthy greens, although a bit slow. Good value for the money. THE BAD: Thin fairways, but playable if you just roll over the ball to some vegetation. Worn out clubhouse and broken down cart paths. No rakes in traps. Potential logjam on drivable par-4 3rd hole. THE UGLY: The restrooms! OMG!! Get the bulldozer. BOTTOM LINE: Play here if you are willing to accept the above. It is a great course at a fair price.
Greens were ok
At first glance this might have been a nice country club back in its heyday. They were remodeling the men's locker room. But it really needs a complete overhaul to be nice again.
Overall course condition was fair at best I paid $18 so it was definitely worth that. I wouldn't pay more than $25. The tee boxes and greens were surprisingly good, greens were a little slow, but they rolled nicely at least they had grass on them. I didn't notice any bare spots. Fairways were thin with little grass. Bunkers the sand sucked and no rakes. The layout was interesting not boring, plenty of water to make it challenging. Cart path should just be torn up they were well past their time; Maybe should just use mulch or crushed limestone instead. I would play this again if the price was right.
This course needs a lot of TLC
The greens were nice and the layout was too. Unfortunately the overall course conditions were poor. At one time this must have been a nice course. But the fairways and cart paths were in poor condition and/or torn up and the on course bathroom was so filthy is was unusable. It looked like someone had deliberately smeared feces all over the toilets and sinks and there was trash everywhere.
