Soggy course, friendly front desk
I preface this by saying there was a lot of rain the evening before which led to the sloppy course conditions.
With that said, I’ve played this course a few times. It’s usually in decent condition. But you hit a ball down the middle of the fairway you don’t expect to find it in the middle of a lake (right next to the overflowing drain). Ball also plugged halfway into the muddy ground just short of the fringe. Very frustrating.
But my biggest complaint was the grounds crew. Twice on separate holes they decided to walk across and work on the greens I was playing on. Once when I was hitting an approach shot, and another time when I was putting. I will say this is the first time that has happened. I’ve never had that experience with the grounds crew before, and it could have just been frantically working to get the course conditions better for the afternoon (I had an 8am tee time).
Good course for the value
Course is a very tight fitted 18 hole course, but for the money, it was great. They had a computer glitch that allowed tee times to be double booked and the handled it very professionally. Will definitely be back
Weekend Visit
Enjoyed. Would play again if in town another time.
A hidden gem
Looking at the facility when driving up it looks like an old trailer park but it's a hidden gem
Fun coarse!
Overall greens were good pace of play was great! Friendly staff. Old coarse but fun to play! I recommend this course to anyone. Great price good greens and great staff! Have fun!!
Pleasantly surprised
I enjoyed playing this course. While the fairways were a litttle dry and brown in places (what course isn't right now), the tee boxes and greens were in good shape. The greens were a little slow and bumpy in places, they were very lush (do to not cutting them too low). We are definitly playing this course again!!
Bouncey greens and fairways under repair
This course had their greens and tee boxes redone some time ago and while they look to be in decent shape and pass the eye test. This i simply not tue case. The greens are not flat and your ball will endure about 5-6 bounces or hops on any 20 ft putt. Brutal. This course also host events for Spark golf and with that volume on a weekly basis the course will never be in great shape. Save your pennie’s and play any of the neighboring executive courses in the area.
My Home Course
I have grown up in this area and have played this course since ‘06.
I believe the greens are in one of the best eras they’ve been in due to an overhaul that management did last year spending months at a large revamp. Do not expect a Country Club but Mainlands will always be a very serviceable muni that will be a good value and a unique track planted within the hallmark power lines.
Great Addition to GolfPass
Greens are a joke. High, bumpy,
Fairways…what fairways???
The staff from Pro Shop through Starter were very nice.
Worst golf course
All this golf course needs is 2 goats and a bunch of sheep. Greens are atrocious. Fairways are poor. Worst golf course I have ever played in the Pinellas.
Great course for a great deal
Played early morning special rounds here during winter getaway. Great value, nice course, not too tough or long
Many "Cheers" To Mainlands Golf Course - Wonderful Greens with A Super Cordial Staff in a Relaxing Setting and Enviroment
I just moved here and have visited many courses within the last 7 months in the Tampa area and being in my 30's, I must say hands down that this is one of the best. This beautiful and tranquil family owned course is well groomed and in very good condition. They have a pro shop that carries many needed items just in case you forgot, just as I did, and the prices are reasonable and on spot. The course is a PAR 67 course with 3, 4 & 5 PAR holes. Even though the prices I found to already be reasonable, I was told by management upon departure that often they run specials or offer reduced tee times at different times of the day, which gave me many more reasons to come back and play this course. I tested their knowledge about some irons and clubs they offered on site and the staff actually knew what they were talking about, whish was nice for a change, even offering to order me what I needed. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, as if I had already been a part of their golf family for years. Funny, because I almost felt as if I was in a "Cheers" episode hanging at the counter having a beer and in the back of my mind I could hear the shows jingle playing, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name", giving me that warm feeling inside about the course and the people who run it. The proshop also offered me many choices from sandwiches to snacks to even hotdogs. The best part of day that which started my Sunday morning tee off was a Bloody Mary they offered, which made the experience their even more pleasurable and was perfect start to my Sunday. It was "Brunch in a Cup" as I would call it. They hands down deserve this review and I am fortunate to have come across this gem of a golf course and its family who runs it. Who knows, to the person reading this, maybe you'll bump into me or one of the wonderful people I encountered when you make your way over to play and can guarantee you'll experience the same feeling I am raving about. Kudos to the manager and owner, Tyson Duane and his hospitable staff. Great Game of Golf Accompanied by Many Smiles and Good Feelings is what you will get when you visit the Mainlands Golf Course.
