Green is too bad
The G.C had been notorious against it fair way and green condition for years and it never improved.
Since I got bombarded DM and e-mails from the course I thought it should be repaired and enhanced but it never met the expectation. still very bad and horrible.
Due to conditions very few teams played the game that's why no delay even though on Saturday.
Always a great value
It was raining, it had been raining for 3 days but the weatherman said it would stop, and eventually it did. The course was very wet and the greens still drained fantastically like they always due. The fairways, especially on the West Course were very wet, cart paths only of course. The staff, especially the starters were friendly and professional, a shout out to ours, Bob Reynolds, great customer service experience, toweled off my cart before giving it me, big smile and very friendly! A great day overall despite the weather
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for playing the time to share your feedback and glad to hear you had a good time. I love the feedback on our employee Bob Reynolds! Regards, Mike
Aways so welcoming
Always have a great time playing here. Played North-East, North in good shape but East is struggling a bit. Pro shop staff is outstanding as is the clubhouse staff. Nice place to hang out afterwards, great drafts and friendly wait staff.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for choosing Compass Pointe and we hope to see you back on the links again soon! Mike

Staff and facilities were good. Course has a few issues: mold and dry spots in the fairways, tee boxes are a little worn, and some greens had mold spots.
Was the first for the season, so not sure if all courses in the area are having similar issues. Some fairways were so bad, under tournament play the probably would be marked as GUR, but on one or two holes that would be a large playing surface…
Ciao,
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback from your round in 2015. I am happy to report the new fairways and tees on the East look awesome. Added to this, there have been many more renovated bunkers throughout the facility. The courses look great and if you would be interested in checking it out as my guest please contact Michael @ 410-255-7764 x 9.
Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. There are a few areas that got a bit dry with the heat but they will bounce right back. Also, the Bermuda conversion on the East nine will move pretty quickly as the weather heats up. If you have time I would love to speak to you more about your experience. Mike 410-255-7764 x 9

Slump
I've played here a few times in the last couple years. I was surprised on how much this place reminds me of a municipal course now. I reserved a 7:05 team time on the South-West course. When I showed up they had bumped me to 7:10 on East-North. I specifically didn't want to play east because of the issues noted in previous reviews. We were bumped for some sort of outing. I would have appreciated a phone call about it, as I would have canceled the reservation. The East course has some sort of rot going on in the fairways. The Bermuda isn't just dormant as the pro shop will try to tell you. You'll see if you play. It's just way too damp and has standing water in some areas. They're making an effort to fix the issue. The rotted areas were only a factor a handful of times. Additionally we got paired up with a walk in like we were at a discount municipal course. I was mad at first but the guy turned out ok. The staff was nice and the food was good.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I apologize of the issues you encountered while arriving for your tee time and playing our course. The East nine still needs some more heat to come out of first year dormancy. The Southwest course which is wall to wall Bent grass is in great shape. If you have time I would love to speak to you further about your visit. Regards, Mike 410-255-7764 x 9 or msenneca@billycaspergolf.com
Agree with others on current conditions
Have played here a number of times in the past. Read reviews here about poor conditions on one of the 9's on the course this Spring so called up pro shop to ask. Pro assured me all was fine - just that the relatively new bermuda grass was dormant but still "plenty of it". I told him I would write a review after playing so I hoped he was giving me the straight story. He assured me he was. So I booked a round there. Upon checking in, asked again regarding conditions on the course. Was assured it was in "good shape; just 30% dormant still".
We were very disappointed when we got to the Bermuda grass 9. Grass probably still 75% dormant (not 30%) but the real issue is that there was so little of it - just a hint of grass covering the dirt. I understand a golf course's need to renew their turf but I also demand that they be truthful to their customers about conditions. I don't mind saying I was angry - not a good mindset for playing golf.
I also had to call twice to the pro shop because of 3 groups on a hole (slow play). Despite that, never saw a marshal once.

Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience playing Compass Pointe. While I don’t like reading negative reviews I am thankful you did so I can have a discussion with my team. If you have some time I would like to speak further about your experience. Regards, Mike 410-255-7764 x 9
Terribly Inconsistent
On a perfect spring day, everything seemed great; now I know why the course seemed so empty! The north 9 was ok (green speeds vastly different between N & E), but the fairways on the east were TERRIBLE; brown dead grass with inconsistent bounces off the tee!!! Of course I was charged full price, was not told about the conditions, or offered the option to play either of the other two 9's.
Good morning. Thank you for your recent visit and feedback. The east nine tees and fairways were converted to Bermuda grass last year and are currently coming out of dormancy. Before you know it those fairways and tees will be green and lush. I would love to talk more about our course and facility. Mike 410-255-7764 x 9
Still early, but disappointed!
Just played the North/East tracks at Compass Pointe for the first time this year. I typically hit the two tracks at Compass Pointe once or twice a year, every year since it was opened. The N/E track is very challenging, especially for a higher handicapper like myself but an enjoyable day out in nature no matter what. Two things today were extremely frustrating: 1st, no marshalls maintaining pace of play-the group ahead of mine took over an hour for the first 3 holes and completely ruined the front 9; the worst part as all golfers have experienced, they were oblivious to their infractions and the club did nothing to push them. Thank the golf gods we were able to pass them at the turn. Unfortunately, that's where the 2nd issue kicked in, the East track's tee boxes and fairways are burnt or completely dead; some sections are just dirt and very difficult to play from. Definitely not worth the full price I paid to play and staff did not alert me to the status of the East track prior to purchase. Too bad, hopeful they are able to get a handle on it.

Good afternoon and thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear the pace of play was an issue during your last visit. Also, the decision was made to convert the east fairways and tees to Bermuda grass last summer. Currently the grass is dormant but will be a superior playing surface before you know it. If you have time I would love to speak to you more about your recent visit and our facility. Mike 410-255-7764
In Good Shape
Course is in very good shape for early spring. Should be great thru spring and early summer. Greens were rolling med. to slow but in great condition.
Thanks for coming out! Hope to see you back on the links soon! Compass Pointe Team
Great considering the weather
Great considering the weather. Wind above 20 mph. The ground was wet due to melting snow. First playable day of the year due to snow. However, the greens were fast and staff were kind and friendly.
Great to hear and hope to see you back on the links again soon. Mike
good condition despite weather
played North/South , weather adjustment, Crew out shoveling snow off tee/hole areas, Fairways in good condition, greens nice, holes seemed to have been cut just before the big snow, but couldn't have been. 50's temp, great day to have been able to play a course that was not water saturated. Nice move to adjust play! Putting was surprisingly smooth, not quick.
Thank you for visiting our club and hot to see you back out soon! Mike
Good for winter in Maryland
Staff was great. Course was fair for December. Really wet in spots but overall good for December in Md. Will play it again soon
Golfermom94 - Glad to hear you had a good time! Hopefully this snow leaves MD soon!
Nice layout
I thought that the course had many challenging holes. Choice of tee boxes to fit anyone's game.
Great course!
Challenging course from the tips with opportunites to score well!! Tasty food and friendly service.. Can't wait to play this one again!!!
A Change of Pace
I've played this course for years and I rather like it. For one, it's a 36 hole course, so I often gravitate here since I figure the other patrons will be more 'diffused' throughout. The course, obviously, are North, South, East and West.
I played the West 9 and was by myself. Perfect day, had another single in front of me who I nearly caught by the end of the 9. Evidently people think it's ok to play three balls if they feel they have the course to themselves.
Condition wise, the course was a bit on the rough side. People don't repair ball marks like they should, rake the bunkers or fix their divot marks in the fairway. I'm more affected by the pace of play as opposed to the course conditions. They were ok for me, but I've seen them better.
I then moved to the South side, played one hole and immediately caught a foresome. They let me play through, only for me to run into a single waiting on a threesome in front of him. At that point I called it a day and went to the range.
Compass Pointe gets a lot of use by a lot of people, so don't expect the course conditions to be akin to those in the NoVa or Frederick area. But it's a nice course with a few different layouts (I personally prefer the North side as it's more of a links layout) that's sure to fit your game.
Pro Shop or Golfnow?
Online reservation through Golfnow.com stated a sleeve of balls with online booking. Pro shop attendant was addament they never do that. Said you can go grab a logo ball, i don't care. So you be the judge, course was average overall.
Interesting golf, fast greens
Well maintained golf course, interesting layout, challenging enough to think about coming back. Busy place though, little slow. Overall like it.
Confusing Price Charges
I was charged more than what was indicated on Golf.now.com. The staff offered a poor excuse for the difference. A player's assistance was needed to manage to pace of play - extremely slow!
Sad
Haven't played in a few years and let me tell it's so bad that i was embarrassed that my buddies from out of town had to deal with it. Greens were in bad shape, most seem to be infected and the entire course was full of bird droppings! looking down the fairway from the 1st tee you think the course was in great shape, until you get out in the fairway and onto the green. Truly sad and disappointing time having to apologize to my guest. It will be a few years before i get back out there again, there are plenty of courses in the area that are less expensive and in way better shape i.e. Clifton Park, Fox Hollow, Diamond Ridge to name a few.

Good morning golfer and thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. The agronomic team has a plan in place to renovate the fairways and bunkers. The bunker on the East nine have been done and we will be continuing to focus on them moving forward. If you have time I would love to speak to you more about your experience.
