Purgatory Golf Club
About
Spread across 218 acres, the Ron Kern-designed Purgatory Golf Club is the longest par-72 course east of the Mississippi River. Nevertheless, the course is set up to be enjoyed by all, with six different sets of tees ranging from more than 7,700 yards all the way down to just under 4,600 yards. Bunkering is one of the club's defining features, with more than 130 coming into play. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the par-3 17th, where eight massive bunkers almost completely surround the putting surface.

Beautiful and challenging
Beautiful and challenging course, enjoyed playing here. I will be back as often as I possibly can.
5 Hour Round
Purgatory could be great but they don't seem to care. The course is difficult and new golfers to Purgatory are given no help with signage, visual aids, or a course marshall that would expedite pace of play. The endless bunkers either have zero sand or the few that have been upgraded have twice as much sand as needed. They take your greens fee and just let you figure it out.
Allocate 5 Hours
Really like the course and staff. The restaurant is understaffed and they need to find a way to expedite the 30 minutes it takes to turn from 9 to 10. The on course pace of play is ridiculously slow & unacceptable.
Quality Facilities
Purgatory has an interesting layout, conditioning is usually pretty good, but with the huge number of bunkers, it seems a few get neglected, it is tough but not impossible IF people play the correct tees. Pace of play is a problem, 4.5-5 hour rounds are too common and slower players are rarely if ever asked to keep up or speed up.
Nice course
The golf course was in good shape. Pace of play was great. Very friendly staff and very helpful. Really enjoyed the course. I would definitely recommend this course
A Must Play
If you are in central Indiana, add this course to your wish list. The large putting and separate chipping greens are a great example of the challenge you will face. Generous fairways are defended by lots of bunkers and the green side bunkers and added wind made approach shot accuracy vital. You will need long, accurate drives or great chipping to score well.
Very Challenging
This course is such a great course to play. The greens are fast and the elevation changes will test your ability to read putts. The holes seem to get more challenging as you progress making you rethink your life choices of ever starting the game of golf. I recommend starting earlier in the day with a Bloody Mary - sit down and eat lunch at the turn to recenter yourself before taking on the back 9. Thank me later
Purgatory
Awesome course. Windy and chilly, but after all the rain in the area lately greens were running great, and fairways were dry. Two thumbs up
It’s a got to play course.
Wow I just had time to play the next day and got on your app and found a great tee time at $45 to play Purgatory are you kidding me. Everything was perfect other than the wind I had to go up 2 clubs all day long. But what a great course I would highly recommend it. I will definitely be going back real soon.
Great links course. Fantastic BBQ
The course is great. Some maintenance needed on most of the bunkers. Major reconstruction of some bunkers is underway. Fairways are in excellent shape. Greens have tremendous undulations andare coming out of winter nicely.
Purgatory is s a LOT of Golf!
An extremely fun test of golf. Hige greens with many many (fair) undulations. Definitely a course-knowledge track. You'll want to hjt the fairway here...missing it leaves a big question mark on your next shot, lie will NOT be flat, Played it at 6,400 yards on a windy day...was all we could handle. A great piece of land...give it a try if you get the chance.
March 2025
Excellent course. In really great shape for March. Pace of play was horrible. 4:45 minutes for a round in March during the week is embarrassing. They really should have marshalls out moving slow groups along. Otherwise, great place to play.
