Working Progress
I have played King's Creek before and have always like it...challenging course...as everyone can see who has played it this year that it is in rough shape at the current moment. The main reason is because of the work that they are doing trying to grow the 4 or 5 fairways back in (atleast they are working on the problem)...They flooded 5 times this winter which has not helped their situation...staff is always great and the price is always just right...
Give it a couple of weeks and that course will be back in great shape...it is real close...they told me they will be detailing the bunkers and mowing the sprigged fairways this week so I am excited to come back next week
great course
Great course! Obviously, like most courses here in middle Tennessee, the fairways are hurting. I noticed the last time I was playing there that the fairways were being worked on. If I remember correctly there were only 6 fairways that we're being worked on and they were only cart path only. With the harsh winter and the flooding this course has had it is still in good shape! If you are someone that is expecting perfect fairways so it makes your shot easier and not challenging then this course is not for you right now. Overall the course is great and fun! Greens are great and people are friendly!
King's Creek Review
Course in very bad condition. Looks like they might be going out of business. I would not recommend playing this course in the condition it's in now.
Nice Course
Course took a hard spring, there working on some fairways with seeding and sprigging, But at least there doing something about it. giving a discount on Green Fees, which is nice. Love the layout.
course under repair
course was under repair @about 50%, bunkers where hard-pan. could be nice course , but seems like they are playing catch -up on maintenance.
Not bad considering the rough winter
I've always been a fan of King's Creek. I've been playing there the last several years and it's always one I come back to. The greens are always great and with bent grass you don't have to worry about aerification in the middle of the summer. There are some trouble areas with the bermuda which was no surprise to me considering just about every public course and several private ones I've played this year are experiencing the same thing. I'm not sure where 12 came from on another comment because there were only 6 holes that had been sprigged and were cart path only when I went. What's the problem with a little walking anyways? I guess if you live in America this day and age it's a BIG problem. If you care about the conditions of a course you enjoy to play then you understand it's a working progress. I was informed of what was going on at check in and it wasn't all that bad. Only one hole was the majority of the fairway and rest were only certain areas so I still had grass to hit off of. The rest of the course was very plush and full. At least they are doing something to fix the problem. I'm also on their email list and they have been running specials for the weekends until all the sprigs grow in completely. You can't beat $34.95 on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Can't control the weather either but I think another couple weeks for the sprigs to fill in and there won't be any bad things to say about this place.
Unrealized potential
This is a very good layout, but maintenance reflects budget restrictions that are unfair to the design. Greens are always good, although they were soft for the first time ever during this round.
Played this round from the tips, which is inappropriate for my game but good for the guys I was paired with. It was a fun challenge--kicked my butt on some holes but brought out the best in me on others.
When they get it up to speed maintenance-wise, it will be one of the best around. If...
Getting Better
Just like a lot of courses Kings Creek is suffering from winter kill and the 5 floods they had already this year...hats off to management for trying to fix the problem as best they can...it makes for tough conditions with 5 cart path only holes but it is good to see improvement...always a great lay out and greens are in amazing shape!! Great to see specials being offered when course conditions are still being worked on...the sprigs in the 5 fairways have to be watered causing it to be a little wet but not bad at all...give it 2 to 3 more weeks and those fairways will be back in...staff is always great! Pace of play is just a little bit longer on the weekends but mainly due to the cart path only issue...still 4:30 hrs is nothing to complain about...I always feel welcomed at Kings Creek and really enjoy the ice cold scented towels they started offering again on the really hot days!!! Overall this course is in good shape all things considering and it will only improve as the summer goes on
Very poor shape
Quit after 9 holes.. 12 of Fairways were dead wet and unplayable.. Most of the holes were cart path only. 3 hours to play nine holes. It seem to need a updated drainage system..
Good value
Like several courses in area, lost some fairways over the winter which resulted in AVG rating. Improving conditions will make more playable and improve pace. Greens are in great shape. Overall, this course is challenging due to some forced carries for us short hitters. Par fives and threes make up for difficulties in par fours. Like the layout but pace could improve. High maintenance course.
Rough Conditions - Beware
SHORT TERM issues for sure, but this course is in VERY rough shape right now. Many fairways are torn up and unplayable, the greens have been aerated [should be more open about that with golfers when booking], and some tee-boxes are cooked bricks right now. Rough is mega thick also with the rain we've had in the area lately - and maybe a bit too high [you will lose balls in it].
They *are* working on the course, but it seems a bit strange to be doing it in July when golfing is at a premium? Maybe should have done the work in the spring when grass wasn't growing in the fairways like most other courses?
Great course, but I'd wait a few weeks before heading out there again. Your score and putting strokes will thank you.
We appreciate the feedback and are always looking to improve the golf course. Right now we have sprigged 5 of our fairways in order to grow grass back on them. With bermuda grass you have to sprig in the hottest part of the summer for it to grow not the spring which is why we waited so long.
The roots have taken and we should be fully grown back in by the mid August. We have bent grass greens so we have not aerated this summer but we do knife our greens every couple of weeks to help the air flow and to kill off any diseases. It may look like they have been aerated that day but your ball will roll smooth and it will heal up in just a couple of days.
Because of the rougher course conditions we have discounted our prices. We are hoping to be back in full by mid August so we hope to see everyone out here again this year! Thank you for the patience this year.
Don't play here right now!
Six fairways are unplayable and three holes are shortened. I will not go back until next year, maybe. We had no warning prior to our tee time. Started on the back nine without notification this was the case. We only paid $25 and tax but had a miserable day at the course today.
We are sorry to hear that you had a rough time today. We do our best to notify everyone when they check in and when they go to the 1st tee box. We apologize for the inconvenience. We have sprigged parts of the 6 fairways in order to fix the bare fairways instead of doing nothing. By mid August we should be fully grown back in and back in good shape. We will try to post course conditions on GolfNow but we have been discounting our prices to try and help out. Thank you again for the concerns and we hope to see you back out here later this year!
Disappointed
When I got to the course I found out several holes were cart path only due to poor fairway conditions. Also when approaching several greens the sprinklers went on. One par 5 was turned into a par 3.
Having said that, I have played KC several times when the conditions were good. They are working on the condition of the course and I realize it will take some time. I think if they would email the condition of the course before playing would be the right think to do.
Almost Great
Kings Creek has a lot of promise: A great layout, challenging greens that roll true and a friendly staff. But everything never seems to come together at once. Either the fairways are a mess or the greens are punched or the traps are unkempt. Can never seem to get an entire 18 holes without some issue. Also, the tee times seem to be a free-for-all. Way too often, there is no starter and you end up groups jumping their tee times and twosomes, foursomes and singles scattered all over the place.
Great Layout
Great layout, several fairways under repair, green and bunkers good, just need patrons to rake and fix pitch marks. Pace of play good until we reached the back nine. Several afternoon groups started off the back and slowed the back nine down to snails pace. We left after the 13th hole. Would play again with the right discount due to repairs and pace of play
Staff is friendly but fairway needs to be maintained
Location is good near spring field highway.
Free range ball is good. Staff is friendly but fairway needs to be maintained.
Local Course for me
Course has a great layout. However they allow their members to play in groups of 6-8 golfers.
The condition of their fairways are a 3 out of 5. Greens are great. Tee Boxes are a work in progress.
Winter hammered this course
The course isn't extremely long (my son and I played the Champion tees) but the layout and the sprawling nature of the course made it feel like it. Although the greens still show some signs of Spring aeration, they were OK. But.... the harsh Winter really took a toll on the fairways with many being dirt bare. You'll need a good grasp on how to play "tight" lies to negotiate this course and maintain your handicap.
Great Layout - Fairways need help
Had a great time on my round, and really enjoyed the layout. Some really fun challenging holes, and the greens were in excellent shape. However, the fairways were downright awful. Most fairways had hard pan with little to no grass. It was like hitting out of the Sahara. It was very difficult to hit a clean shot hitting off of hard dirt, and made for the round to be less enjoyable than it should be. I understand we had a bad winter... but these poor fairways were in rough shape. I probably wouldn't go back until they are better.
Bad Winter
The winter got this course pretty bad on the fairways and tee boxes. Greens were in great shape though. Still a nice course and fun to play.
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package
We appreciate the concern with the conditions of the golf course. Just like all other golf courses in the Middle, TN area we were hit with 5 floods and extremely heavy winter kill this past winter.
Over the past month we have sprigged 5 of our fairways in order to grow the bare spots back which will cause temporary pain but longer term gain. Our sprigged fairways should be fully grown in by mid August so we hope to see you out here again.
We have had to pick and choose our battles but hope to be back to normally King's Creek conditions in 3 weeks. For the time being we hope everyone enjoys our discounted $25 meal deal rate on golf now!
