Dunes at Kamloops Golf Club

Course layout is good, with some elevation changes, doglegs, and lots of uneven lies.

Greens are firm but true, fairways are mostly green with some burnt patches from local hot weather.

By biggest issue or opportunity for improvement for this course is mostly the par 3 tee boxes especially #6 that white block is like standing on a pitchers mound. It should be taken out of play, leveled and allowed to recover, making it bigger by extending tee box width towards #5 would also be better.

My other issue with this course is esthetics. #7 is a beautiful hole with water down the right side, at the end of the lake there is a massive pile of dredged material covered in weeds, it’s an absolute eyesore.

The course was in fair to poor condition for the price. Many greens were burnt. Sprinklers were on in spot while trying to putt. Hot day abs beverage cart person avliable to provide refreshments. I was expecting much more for the reputation and price.

I’ve played the Dunes many times during my time in Kamloops while working.

I went this day because it was exactly 1 year to the day since I recorded my very first hole in one.

The course conditions were very disappointing I’ve never seen the rough just off the fairways that high.

In fact the two players I managed to join that day mentioned the same.

We certainly didn’t enjoy hunting for our golf ball in the tall grass after a shot.

I’m hoping that the next time I’m playing there the grass just off the fairways are mowed to the regular height.

Greens were a little bumpy from aeration done a few weeks ago. Had to take a drop from one bunker that looked like a gravel pit and not a chance I was gonna damage my irons. If new management puts some effort into bringing back great course conditions then would look to play again but don't plan on playing again any time soon even at the great $25 Golfnow rate.

Beginning of the year so course is being groomed well. Mid summer its excellent soil. Good value for your dollar. Staff is too notch and food and beverages are priced nicely

Played in April, so early spring conditions. The grass needs to grow in more, but over seeding and pinning the greens and other maintenance had been done! Just need some warmer weather and moisture to help green it up. This course does have a great layout, design and amenities.

Great staff and course was in good shape early in the year. Greens rolled true and were gettable with recent moisture. Fun day but the group in front needed the marshall to remind them of pace of play. Got backed up on the last 9

Always good to get out early. All in all the course is in good shape for this time of year. The greens are in great shape. Sand traps in good shape but no rakes supplied. Good walking course.

Second time playing the Dunes. The day started off on the wrong foot as on hole 1 we were read the riot act by 3 Marshall’s before teeing off. 1 Marshall will do…and is probably 1 too many. If they had been somewhat friendly it would have been much less awkward.

If by chance your tee shot isn’t fairway bound…. there is no secondary rough on this course. The grass is so thick within feet of the fairway that you will not find your ball unless you trip on it, and if you do, the rough is so thick that you might snap a club shaft trying to hit it.

There is no course map on the scorecards. There are a few holes where a person new to the course might question which green they are hitting to. When this was brought up to the Marshalls which appeared again on hole 10, the Marshall spoke to us like we were stupid for being confused.

The greens and been freshly punched and sanded, which made putting a little unpredictable.

The course itself is not terrible. It could use some maintenance to remove potholes. The Dunes should save money by eliminating the unnecessary Marshall’s and putting that money towards course maintenance and perhaps paving some of the cart paths.

I was able to hit the links 30 times this season. This was the least fun experience out of all 30. It will take a special deal in green fees to make me golf here again.
