Newlands Golf and Country Club

Take this review with a grain of salt as the round was played in February after several weeks of rain and snow. The course was in awful shape. It was mucky. Every shot plugged. The greens were bumpy and impossible to read. Nevertheless, it was a sunny day and it felt nice to be out on the links.

I'll give Newlands another try in the summer when the conditions are better and hopefully the course is in better condition too.

Booked a tee time for 1:30pm with sundown at 5:30pm, we should have been able to squeeze all 18 holes in. There is no golf Marshall and the tee times are too close together. Pace of play was awful, we were one of four groups who bottlenecked every hole making social distancing almost impossible. It took 4 hours to play 12 holes. Someone needs to be marshalling that course to keep pace of play. Another downfall was almost all bathrooms were "out of order", we had to go into the ballroom to use the facilities. This place is poorly run, we will not be returning.

Nice day for golf. Called to make sure they were open. Was told yes. Would have been nice if they had mentioned 2 and 1/2 holes were closed.

New management makes you feel welcome and have made improvements to course over the winter.

Great day for golf at the end of January. Everything was in good shape. They have done lots of work on most of their bunkers. The work is on going.. It’s a great improvement. Thanks guys.

Great day for golf. Sun was out, pace was good and played good. They are re: working there sand traps . They should be real good once they are finished. Course was nice and dry today.

I found Newlands to be a very good value for full length course with interesting creek water through many holes and occasional (remarkably quiet) small aircraft low just before landing at the local airstrip nearby. The buffet downstairs and bar upstairs both overlook the course and you will also find, not surpisingly, very good value in both as well.

If i could have two wishes, it would be that the snack house centrally located at the end of the first hole would have instead of soda, cookies, chips and some sandwiches a fuller menu including healthier fare. Espresso coffee would also be uniquely excellent to find there, and would make this course stand taller than the others for menu hospitality. I can dream.
