Tarandowah Golfers Club
About
Tarandowah Golfers Club has a unique layout that closely resembles traditional Scottish links golf courses. There are undulating greens and sloped fairways that are made up of bentgrass and wispy fescue. Although there are no water hazards, Tarandowah Golfers Club boasts more than 100 deep, sod-faced bunkers that prove to be just as challenging if not more. Strong winds blow through the golf course, a factor that will affect your game if not careful. Tarandowah Golfers Club has several tricky uphill par 4s, but its longest and one of its more challenging holes is the par-5 14th, which stretches to 588 yards.

Long round of golf
LIke many of the locals who have enjoyed Tarandowah since it's opening, I am a fan. It is certainly good value for the money, the course is a fine example of links and I've taken many friends along with me. But sadly a test of golf has recently become a test of patience. In the past 2 years I find myself often waiting for a cart, "please be patient" is a common response. Last year I walked the first 2 holes before one became available. This year I liked the addition of orange tee blocks for the kids in the spring, now missing in the summer. 3 "starters" to set us off with no idea about the orange tees even though the yardage appeared on the new revised scorecard for 2017. Can you tell me if the pin locations are A, B, or C? "No idea, let me check". 6 1/2 hours for a round of golf with my son, my grandson, and my wife. 2 complete holes opened up ahead of us and not a Marshall insight until the 18th hole. "It's a tournament, we all need to be patient" Yes, I got that part.
Over-rated
I'm not as impressed with this course as some other reviewers seem to be. At $80 a round with cart ( range balls not included ) I can play a lot of much nicer courses. It's wide open, no trees, no water, and lots of short fescue ( not a lot of scenery). Small clubhouse which is situated a long distance away from the 9th green, making it difficult to grab a bite before the back nine ( there was a beverage cart on the course though). Fairways were bare and dry but greens were in decent shape. I realize it's a 'links' style course but I really didn't see anything special about it.
On the day we played, there was a guy playing in front of us who was walking, carrying his clubs and pushing a child in a stroller. Needless to say, he wasn't playing very fast and in spite of us being in a cart right behind him on every hole, he refused to let us play through. The child was heard to be crying on a couple of holes too. I'm a little surprised that any course would allow a golfer to push a child in a stroller around the course. Not the best decision IMO.
Overall, I would not recommend this course unless you can get a good deal on UnderPar and really enjoy playing a somewhat link's style course. In my opinion, it's a little over-rated and underwhelming.
very interesting
have played the course twice now . very friendly staff
loved the course.
Wouldn't pay more then 40$
Ok course not worth 65$ like I paid in my opinion few holes are just flat out hard lots of bunkers
A wee bit of Scotland
Loved it, some of bunkers reminded me of St. Andrews. Long course to walk, think next time we'll be renting a power cart. Flag on 18th was the St. Andrew's Scottish Flag, great to see that finishing up. Can you tell I might be Scottish.
outstanding golf course
play 18 holes on wednesday. fabulous golf course!
best links style course in ontario!!!!
extremely well designed and in outstanding condition!
love this course
A bit of the beaten track , but one of my favourites.
Very challenging layout, closest thing to a links course that I've played in North America. Keep the ball in the fairway and you are safe, stray balls into the rough are tough to find and even tougher to advance.
Greens were fast and immaculate as were the fairways. Carts were long in the tooth, and unfortunatley there is no opportunity for food or refreshment at the turn.
well worth making the drive down the 401,
ALWAYS LIVES UP TO THE HYPE
A course that is by far the best bang for your buck in South Western Ontario.
I have played this course many time since opening and the best thing is no two rounds have been the same.
Challenging and thought provoking the terrain gives you what you expect of links golf experience.
Good golfing and public
Played numerous time and I like it a lot. The fescue was cut back to I assumed speed up play, still very good value
I'm not a big fan of links style courses but like to play this one once in awhile just for a change of pace. The course was in nice shape and is playable for all skill levels. Staff were friendly, including the starter/Marshall and beer cart lady. Clubhouse is very small and underwhelming and located quite a distance between the 9th green and the 10th tee making it difficult to garb a bite at the halfway point. I also find their rate for a cart rental ( $19 per person) to be higher than most other courses. Overall, it's a nice track and worth playing every now & then if you can get a deal on their fees.
Course great!... Lady in the proshop, not so much!
We had a tough round in the wind at Tarandowah on Sunday. Course was very challenging and Links style, which we expected. Our usual 12 man group had only 6 this time and all enjoyed the challenge. As we wanted to play more, we asked the proshop staff what the deal was to play nine more. We had already paid $50 which was more than our GolfNow deal was supposed to be, but we didn't complain. The lady in the proshop was not amenable to a deal at all. Even if she had offered $20 we would have all played again - $120 plus more beer from the cart girl... but no, so we drove down the road and played elsewhere.... I guess they don't need the money at this course. A fun course and the starter, cart girl and marshall were friendly and knew how to deal with customers, but sadly, we won't be back because of the proshop staff.
HI it staight or play somewhere else
This is a links style course with deep thick grasses after the second cut..If you don't hit your ball straight off the tee or with your irons I suggest you play elsewhere. .You may find your ball but you will never hit it out ...so take a penalty stroke and move on. The greens where in excellent condition, rolled true and with speed. Best bunkers I've played at a public course around London..great thick sand NOT peastone..Enjoyed the round
This course is very open but dont let that fool you since it has lots and lots of bunkers all over the greens,it can get you in to trouble if you underestimate this course, all in all its a fun course to play i would go back again for sure.
