Tarandowah Golfers Club
About
Tarandowah Golfers Club has a unique layout that closely resembles traditional Scottish links golf courses. There are undulating greens and sloped fairways that are made up of bentgrass and wispy fescue. Although there are no water hazards, Tarandowah Golfers Club boasts more than 100 deep, sod-faced bunkers that prove to be just as challenging if not more. Strong winds blow through the golf course, a factor that will affect your game if not careful. Tarandowah Golfers Club has several tricky uphill par 4s, but its longest and one of its more challenging holes is the par-5 14th, which stretches to 588 yards.

Greens
The greens on this course were finominal.
Fast, smooth, great feel.
Course is really nice for links.
It was ok but I wouldn’t drive back to play again.....course was pedestrian at best. On line ratings were exaggerated.
Unique to this area
First time playing here and playing a links course. Other than the bunkers, which were inconsistent in the amount of sand, it was a great day and will definitely come back.
Not worth the Price
Played this course last year. There was a guy pushing a child in a stroller in front of us and wouldn't let us play through. Gave it another chance today and still was not impressed. There was a fivesome on the course and another group that had a dog in their cart. There was just 2 of us in a cart and a slow foursome in front of us. Very slow play. Greens were dry and hard, fairways were cut short and patchy. Sand traps were hard and half empty. Tee times were running behind and starter seemed confused. Small clubhouse that is situated too far away from the ninth green to grab a bite at the turn. Tee boxes were in rough shape, no ball washers and no range balls available.
This is not a course I would recommend. For the price they charge, there's a lot of other courses in the area that are a much better value.
Slow
Nice course but very slow play. 5.5 hour round. They packed everyone in. Need to space tee times by 2 minutes more.
True greens, Nice people.
We had the pleasure of being paired up with "the greens keeper's wife". She offered great insight when it came to distances and site lines and was cheerful and patient with us. (Not to mention a better golfer than us) There are a ton of bunkers here so we were greatfull for the tips. There wasn't a lot of wind so the course didn't play too difficult but I can certainly see how maybe the next time I may not be as lucky. The greens were perfect and fast. A distance Finder is helpful here to navigate around the sand traps. I will certainly be back for the Scottish links feel and friendly staff.
First time here
First time playing this course. Was definitely challenging. Plenty of hills and sand traps. Large greens with lots of action. Staff was great. Very friendly and informative for new comers. Had a group of four ahead that understandable moved slower than our twosome. Would recommend.
Tough links test
Played the course on a warm, golden September morning, when it was as benign as we had ever seen it and you would still need as close to your A as possible to tame Tarandoah
A links style course.
Brilliant course, out of the ordinary with some scary bunkers, well laid out and tough enough to stretch one, but still playable and fun!
Slooowww
Good part was the greens were good to putt on but that was it.
Greens don't hold when hitting anything under a wedge. No water or trees to get out of the sun. Cart person came around but not often enough.
Half way shack was not open even though the course was packed.
Manager was more interested in talking to his friends than helping us pay for the green fees.
I understand links style is different but there are no markers indicting how far it is to hazards that have to be cleared
Won't be returning.
Not Impressed
I'm not as impressed with this course as some other reviewers seem to be. At $80 a round with cart ( range balls not included ) I can play a lot of much nicer courses. It's wide open, no trees, no water, and lots of short fescue ( not a lot of scenery). Small clubhouse which is situated a long distance away from the 9th green, making it difficult to grab a bite before the back nine ( there was a beverage cart on the course though). Fairways were bare and dry but greens were in good shape.
On the day we played, there was a guy playing in front of us who was walking, carrying his clubs and pushing a child in a stroller. Needless to say, he wasn't playing very fast and in spite of us being in a cart right behind him on every hole, he refused to let us play through. The child was heard to be crying on a couple of holes too. I'm a little surprised that any course would allow a golfer to push a child in a stroller around the course.
Overall, I would not recommend this course unless you can get a good deal on UnderPar and really enjoy playing a somewhat link's style course. In my opinion, it's a little over-rated and underwhelming.
Slow but beautiful
Beautiful course with large well groomed tee blocks and super fast greens. With challenging carries, rolling hills and punishing fescue this is a perfect course for your average to above average golfers. 186 perfectly maintained bunkers you want to stay out of, of course.
My only criticism is the slow pace of play and no Marshall on course to keep things moving. Took my friend and I 4hrs 45min to finish our round. Without hold ups we are never even close to 4hrs. Also some work on cart paths would make riding smoother.
Despite heavy winds, and a somewhat slow moving group ahead of us, myself and my playing partners enjoyed a good round of golf. The conditions of the course could be a little better. Fairways were quite dry and hard, and the greens were a little inconsistent. That is not indicative of the round we had and the challenges the course offers. It has some good holes, and the layout is very nice. I know how difficult it is too keep a links course in good shape as I was a member at Heron Point. Overall, we enjoyed our round, and would consider coming back again.
Unique experience
Tarandowah is a very unique golf experience. True links golf. Feels like a course right out of Scotland. Course condition was excellent. Fast greens, we'll manicured fairways and tee offs. Superb value
