Nice course but cut the grass
Really nice course, especially for the price. The problem is how excessively long the grass in the rough is. If you miss the fairway by an inch, your ball is basically gone forever. Nearly impossible to find your ball in the rough unless you're standing directly on top of it. Very frustrating when you don't hit a bad shot and you have to take consistent drops and keep losing balls.
A once great track
The positive. The greens were fabulous. Fairways in nice shape. Tee boxes decent shape but a little hard to get the tee in on some boxes.
The negative. Bunkers are very poor. Some grown in, some have lots of weeds in them. Even the ones that have been semi maintained have very little sand. Before Clublink took this course over it was always in superb condition. I hear now the course to be sold and a Resort built. Still if we pay the price that Clublink wants I would expect proper bunker maintenance. Props to the greens keeper though. Simply beautiful greens.
Greens disappoint
It is a shame that such a nice course is ruined by immature golfers who don't have the common courtesy to repair ball marks. 43 on the 18th green alone.
Horrible service! Won’t be back!
We started off very excited to play this course! It was a very hot day on the course and there was no beer cart. We got to the clubhouse and decided to get a beer then! We were told that only members could be served after 7pm! We were made to feel like second class which is NOT acceptable! The greens and fairways were in great condition but the first rough was so long, it was almost not playable! When we first got there the starters did nothing but complain to us about the pro shop setting them behind! Not professional at all! We will likely not return!
No Beer
Very disappointed and hugely insulted that the clubhouse would NOT sell my foursome a beer between nines. First of all they said no alcohol sales after 7pm and then the upstairs patio refused to sell us a beer (to go between nines) because we were not members. What an insult and a ridiculous joke to say the least. Might be the last time we play this course!
Great course
Great course, friendly and helpful staff. Very tough greens.
Poor Conditions
The greens are very poorly kept, rough is overgrown, and bunkers are in horrible shape. This was a great course last season, not sure what has happened. The layout is incredible but it definitely needs some TLC.
Great course
Great course in fabulous condition. Super difficult greens to read though!
OK
Played this course before and this has been by far the worst condition it has ever been in. Front 9 on the south was not in great shape. If your ball rolled off the fairway it was lost to the grass. The grass was super long everywhere and where it was cut, it was littered with grass clippings. The fairway was dry and divots everywhere, even the greens. Not sure what happened to the maintenance here but it is quite disheartening.
North course good South course better
I originally booked south but was told that it was very backed up by the starter so we moved to the north course because, “ it’s wide open and we will zip through it!” . We caught up to the groups ahead by the 4th hole ! Then we were told by the ranger on the 6th that it was “totally Jammed up ahead, and playing through would not be possible”. Also incorrect, the two groups ahead of offered us to play through (very nice of them) and it was smooth sailing from there! The greens were ok, the fairways were ok. But the grass in the rough was way too long! I lost three balls on beautiful drives that rolled just off the fairway and I couldn’t find them ! Another frustrating part is no distance stakes anywhere! And for the price you pay there should be GPS in the carts! I can think of 4 or 5 courses off the top of my head that have gps and stakes for the same price or less !
Overall I won’t be going back there for a while. The staff was friendly but the course conditions take away from the fun experience, mind you the south course is much different.
Weeds in Fairway and Sub Par Bunkers!
Hate to see weeds in the fairway and bunkers were not playable.
Mikey
The sand traps are like mud holes , the course was a messy . Not well groomed!!
Otherwise Great layout and its fantastic golf course unfortunately the management is not spending enough money there to take care of a beautiful track .
Greens too difficult for regular players
I played the South nine, they'd had a lot of rain the day before, but their drainage for the bunkers is brutal, most of them were huge swimming pools. None of them were playable.
Was playing with a couple of '80s shooters, we all agreed that a ball in the bunker was a free drop outside the bunker. For a premium course, you'd think they would have invested a little more in drainage. I don't think they were in that great shape before, it's going to cost him a lot of money to get the bunkers back in shape.
Greens on the south nine are ridiculously difficult, it will cost you at least five more putts per 9 than most courses.. Even with all the rain they were stupidly fast.
Fairways were in decent shape, but both first cut and second cut of rough were way too long. It felt like playing The Abbey the week before the Open.
Haven't played this course in a few years, will not likely be back anytime soon. Sad, because it's got a ton of potential, but I think there's better value and more enjoyable rounds out there.
Great layout but deteriorating fast
Had read many reviews before we booked about the failing state of these once great courses.
The sand traps were indeed in rough shape and the greens were not as great condition as one would expect for a once top 100 course… but I didn’t find them unplayable. I found the fairways to be excellent and the slopes on the greens were great too, despite the recent rain they’ve had
The cart paths are in poor shape. Better signage would really help save a lot of people trouble in finding next holes and tee boxes… and proper uturns on the oath would also save a lot of people from chewing up grass near tee boxes. The patio stones at the clubhouse and halfway house were downright dangerous and need to be redone desperately. I fear once we are fully opened as a province that more gaps will be uncovered with facilities which are currently closed.
I’ll wait to see how ownership progresses with this club before making the king drive again to play it
