Sawmill Creek Golf Resort & Spa
About
Sawmill Creek Golf Resort & Spa is southwestern Ontario's premier golfing destination. Located just east of Sarnia and less than an hour from London, the golf course is a conveniently situated getaway that feels much further thanks to an idyllic location along the shores of Lake Huron. The course is a par-71, links-style design that is challenging enough for avid golfers but still playable for beginners. The gently rolling landscape was enhanced even further with the addition of more than a million tons of earth, which was carefully molded to look as though it had always been there. The meticulously crafted mounding adjoins the fairways, providing a continuous flow throughout the golf course. In addition to the mounding, golfers will also face large bunkers, tall fescue, bluegrass rough, and desert-like waste areas. It may appear daunting, but Sawmill Creek is not as tough as it looks.

Depressing experience, terrible conditions on a wonderful design
I described this about a week ago. I don't know why I am being asked to do this again.
I'm not going to repeat all of the reasons why this was such a depressing experience except to say that the new owners have run this very nice design into the ground. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!! I would not play it again if it were free!!!
Day trip
Nice course, fairly priced and friendly staff. Add in mild temps, 70F in November and it really doesn’t get much better than that.
Depressing experience, terrible conditions on a wonderful design
This course has a great design that has lost all of it's conditioning. It is very depressing to see all of the potential being wasted. The design is still a strength and the turf on the fairways and greens has potential but they have been completely neglected. The greens are extremely slow and the turf looks like it is being starved of water and fertilizer. This course has so much potential!! It needs to be taken over by someone who can invest a reasonable amount of money in the conditioning. I paid $23 to walk so it was a good deal but I would be happy to pay $60+ if the conditions were brought back to the original quality.
The person in charge of the pro shop on Nov 17 2020 seemed quite disorganized and could not find my pre-paid booking. Then I had to ask for a score card. Also. as we stood on the 18th green lining up our putts (including my birdie putt to shoot 71), all I could hear for several minutes was the person running the pro shop standing about 20 yards from the green and talking very loudly a group of people about local restaurants. Very distracting and the person was oblivious to all of us waiting for him to be quite!!! This person obviously has no understanding of golf etiquette. Why is he working in this pro shop???
Bottom line: a very depressing experience to see such a wonderful design fall to such a low level of conditioning.
DO NOT BOTHER
This used to be a fantastic spot....was so disappointed to see what has become of it in such a short period of time. New owners have ruined a great course and facility..so sad
sawmill creek golf resort Camlachie
The course is very much improved from earlier in the year and great to play. Fairways and greens were good. The sand traps are not. Restaurant, is under new management and just opened. Looks great. The rooms also looked very welcoming and extremely clean. I only played the front 9 but was impressed with the improvement.
Golf
The cart rental was expensive. Could not play out of bunkers as no sand and full of weeds. Tee blocks in poor condition. Staff was not friendly but foremost none of the staff where wearing masks and no plexiglass barrier. Also no hand sanitizer. Their computer was not working so had to prove that we had payed ahead of time. I should have reported them to health Canada. I will not go back there again as the coarse looks like it going under and run down. It looks like the bank has taken it over and has put someone it there until the end of this season.
Poor condition $40 to rent a cart, $20 each person.
Could be so great
So much potential. Course was clearly gorgeous not long ago but has definitely been let go. GolfNow also screwed us on pricing charging more for our round than a normal round with a cart at the course. Be sure to call the course before booking on GolfNow
S.O.S.!
It’s sad to see this once proud community/spa resort course fallen to this level. It is truly on life support and unless someone steps in with badly needed TLC (GolfNorth is the only viable suitor I would think) this little gem will go the way of the dinosaur. The fun and great - Carrick touched up - once Muylaert layout is still there, but the evidence of neglect is also abundant... from grassed-in bunkers to damaged tee boxes and greens that I’m sure have either been cut with substandard equipment or poorly trained greens keepers.
You’re just as likely to run into a disgruntled property owner from the housing community at Sawmill as you are another golfer theses days. I may try another visit later in the summer to see if anything positive has taken place but for the time being this has the eerie feel of a ghost town minus the tumbleweeds, although plenty of other weeds are currently taking root.
Fall from grace
Sawmill used to be one of the premier courses in the Sarnia area. The greens rolled true and the course was in immaculate condition. Now it’s a shell of its former self. The fairways were poorly managed and parts of the greens were brown. (25% of the 17th.) Despite a desperate need for mowing, the grounds crew were sadly more concerned with drudgung for balls. There was no cart person. Then to top it all off the manager chased us down in the parking lot and accused us of not paying. Do not pay more than $25 to play.
Great Potential-needs water
Friends and I have played Sawmill in the past and the course was unbelievable. The course is difficult enough for the good players yet, friendly to the lesser skilled..
Today, I drove an hour and twenty just to play this gem and I was very disappointed with the conditions.
The fairways were burned and hard while the greens were long and shaggy. I understand the weather is hot but, you have to dump some water on the course to make it playable.
