Duntroon Highlands Golf Club

About
Located just southwest of Collingwood across acres of land that used to be farms, Duntroon Highlands Golf Club incorporated the existing mature trees into its layout. Ponds were added to create water hazards on 12 holes, but the natural landscape of the golf course was taken into consideration when planning their placement. Duntroon Highlands Golf Club's fairways are fairly wide and there are trees bordering some. The hilly terrain provides some undulation in the greens, which are fast and vary in size. The golf course begins with scenic views but as it moves towards lowland forest on the back nine, the layout becomes considerably more challenging. Duntroon Highlands G.C.'s signature hole is the par-4 sixth, which features a water hazard and an elevated green that is protected by a grass swale in front.

One hot day
We played on one of the hottest days of the year. Went through six bottles of water each. Very interesting layout and tough greens. Pace was good and water cart visited us many times. Good experience.
Course was in great condition
Very nice views from all over the course, some very tricky tee shots and the greens were like putting on a pool table. Would highly recommend this course!
Pretty good for so early in the season
Was told by a couple friends that this was a course I'd enjoy. For the most part, they were right. To be fair, this was their "spring open house" -- free green fees, just pay for your cart ($18 p.p.). Pace of play was a little repeat little slow, but not surprising -- courses around here have only recently opened, so people are still shaking the rust off their swings. Also, the course was really soggy on a lot of the fairways, and even a couple of the greens, so there was no end of plugged and/or plugged and lost tee shots in our group. We had quite a bit of rain the days leading up to golf day, but the course was in as good a shape as could reasonably be expected. Though it was maybe too wet for power carts generally, I for one was glad for the cart -- this is a VERY hilly course, built along the escarpment; I could never walk it. Greens were good for early in the season, and most of the greens are quite elevated from the fairway -- #17 in particular was brutal as a LONG par 4 into the wind and into a very elevated, two-tiered green. All in all, it was an enjoyable course. I'm looking forward to playing it again later in the season and hopefully warmer and less wind.
Great Course
A fun course to play with many elevated tees and scenic views of the region. There are some blind tee shots that need some playing in order to learn where to hit it. The best reason to play this course is it holds many holes that you really have to think about before you make your shot. The greens are quick and greasy, and approach shots that aren't online roll off the sides easily. The greens putt true and though the course runs three or four holes wide at points, you must be on a fairway in order to make shots. The rough was maintained and longish, eating all of our trio up at one time or another. My only complaint (and it is minor) was that the tee boxes were not close to level and needed some seeding. They were playable, but needed some TLC.
The staff was very friendly, especially in the kitchen. Food was great at lunch.
Highly recommend for all levels. I shot somewhere around 94 and didn't lose a ball. You really have to hit your spots around the greens and on the par 3's.
Highly recommended.
A real gem.
The owners have really put a lot of TLC into the course the last few years. They have a great greens keeper. Staff is very friendly. A real family atmosphere.
Course itself goes back and forth along the escarpment giving you some beautiful views of Georgian Bay in the distance. Some holes you can wail away with the driver and other holes you have to be a good iron player. Holes # 1 and 10 are tricky dog leg rights and greens give your putting a good test.
great course, greens great condition
Staff very friendly and helpful
Course is challenging but faiir
greens in great shape
we had lunch, toasted western, at least 3 eggs, beer on tap on special $
will be going back
Great course with challenging holes
The course is in great condition and has many challenging holes. Some great elevation changes and some of the holes require accurate shotmaking. I liked the course so much, I am playing it again this afternoon.
Great Experience, very friendly staff and members, course was in great shape.
The staff and the members were very frindly and helpful. Having not played this course before staff and members offered tips on various holes and maintenance staff assisted 4 times in finding balls as it was a little foggy.
The small greens were a challange but were in impecable shape.
very nice course
we had a tee booked for 7am and looked like will be lots of fun playing this nice course, but mother nature had different plan in store, RAIN and lots of, after 6th hole we were advice to wait out as that was passing storm so we did and finished in wet condition, having said that, the green were very challenging for being TINY and being in rough grass meant trouble , too high , i have a bruised hand for trying to mausle it out
Beautiful course, great staff, and pristine views
A beautifully kept course in the Duntroon highlands, This should be a must-play for all skill levels. Several elevated tees overlooking the course, surrounding area, and the bay make for views and shots not found elsewhere. While not overly long, the greens are challenging and many interesting holes await. Super-friendly staff and nice facilities make this one of the very best values in this part of Ontario. We make a point of playing this course at least once per season, and if it was closer we'd go more often. Skilled golfers can take advantage of some of the shorter par 4's, but they are deceptively well-protected. Casual golfers will enjoy the courses accessibility, too. Regardless of ability, anyone will enjoy the experience and the breath-taking shots over some of the best scenery in Ontario. If you have the chance, don't miss out on one of the best kept secrets in the area!
tough but fair
tough but fair course to play. easy to get to. starter was very friendly. nice club house
great course
challenging holes well maintained, great views, elevation changes. very nice course...
Great last minute choice
Had a very challenging round of golf -was busy - so the round took longer than expected but it was worth every extra minute. The course was in fantastic condition and the green were very challenging. But loved it.
Great course
Very well maintained with lots if elevated tees with great views of the souronding country side. Challenging holes and greens - a pleasure to play
A very fun course to play!
We got a very early tee off and finished in 3 1/2 hours. First time playing and we were surprised to see what great condition the course was in. Greens were fast and true. There was a nice mixture of holes between those where you could pull out your driver and let it rip and those where you had to really think about your tee shots. I'm not a very good golfer (about a 25 handicap) due to lack of playing (at least that's what I tell myself!) but I think all levels of golfer would enjoy this course.
Loved the course and I would play it again in a heart beat!
Enjoyed the course.
I would play there again. I enjoyed the course. It is well maintained and has a nice layout.
Great Value, in 20 years, this course still plays great.
I took my gf golfing for her first time yesturday and this was a great place to go. There wasn't a lot of islands or water to shoot around as it was very wide open. She had a great time too. The staff on the course were great and very friendly to the unsure rookie I brought with me to the course. Bob made her feel very welcome as he is quite the charmer. LOL If I was with one of the boys, we could've walked this course in 4 hours flat. The course was in great shape, the greens played very well. I'd recommend this course as it has great value for the area.
lots of fun at this Collingwood area course
This 25 year old course is showing no signs of aging, except that it's probably getting better with age.
There are some blind shots, and a couple of holes that seem a bit unfair in that regard, but overall it's a great day out with lots of elevated tees, great views of the bay and smallish greens as targets.
Greens and fairways were both in great shape the day we played and the pace was good.
Good value and hope to play it again next time I'm back in the area.
beautiful views from the top of the escarpment of the course and scenery
nice golf course with challenging holes and some ball catching ponds,(blind shots)
over all good course to play
Strange design
I didn't like this course, it has too many strange holes that are chopped up. We all understand that due to the land each course may have a couple of strange holes; well to me there were only about 9 straightforward holes on the course. This course would take a few plays to get used to direction and hole lay out.
But not one I am willing to rush back too. Too bad because staff were very friendly, greens were is good shape (a little slow but acceptable for the hilly terrain).
