Doon Valley Golf Club - 18-hole Course

Well maintained public course. Great value for the average day of golf

Great price on a Saturday. Course conditions were pretty good for this late in the fall. Greens were in good shape too. Nice day out for what was probably the last one of the year!

It's been over 10 years since I've played the course. The upkeep of the course was astonishing. The greens were the best I've ever played on, proper tour level and ran so true.

One complaint is this course is really not great for walking (I walk every time I golf.) There's just too far to go between holes and you're spent by the end. We played the back tees and It turns the 6 thousand yards you see on the score to more like 10-12 thousand. I played this with a friend who is also in fabulous shape and works on his feet and yet we both couldn't stand up the next day. (thankfully a weekend)

The positive is that this makes each whole very unique and amazing but it also makes them difficult because there's very little forgiveness for miss-hits. You can guarantee when you do hit it poorly you're not finding your ball. All of the grass near the tree-line seems to slope away and will make for some in play balls to bounce into the trees as well.

Another complaint was that 9 doesn't end up near the clubhouse and the day I played we didn't see the beverage cart. On top of that the little trailer they had put up at the end of the 7th whole for snacks was closed. This may be due to construction because they're not quite finished under the 401 and that's where the trailer was located.

Overall I feel like if we had just gotten the cart it would have improved the experience. I still highly recommend the course because of it's beauty. I'll definitely play this one again though but I'll be more prepared next time.

Overall a very nice, reasonably priced course but it wasn't busy but was slow/backed up. No marshalls in site to move play along.

Fairways are ridiculously narrow and a few holes are about 1/2km. from green to the next t box. Way to far to walk.

Generally the course was in very good condition, fairways and greens especially. Just so happened to book on a Saturday where 2 tournaments were in progress, meaning that carts were unavailable for our use. so we had to walk instead. Would have been nice to know beforehand of this situation. Nonetheless we had an enjoyable game with the tournaments not slowing us down at all. The only drawback was that, not having a cart, one really felt the long distances between some holes was a bit tiring. Other than that I look forward to my next game here - with a cart!

Big miscommunication that day,

Round was booked on GolfNow for 18 holes with cart, once we got there they had 8 holes closed that week and no players seemed to be notified.

They were offering 10 holes with cart with free replay

(so realistically 20 holes for the price of 18) so it seemed like an okay deal, although you wouldn’t get to play the true 18….

The problem is they didn’t seem to notify people of this, and then they overbooked the course not seeming to think about replays…

Our first 10 holes took 3 hours to play, waited on every tee box, then when we went to play the back 10 they snuck a group on the first tee right Infront of us.

When I went to the shop to ask for a 9 hole rain check (which I would’ve come back another day then and most likely paid for another 9 to complete the 18) they basically laughed and gave me a bogus reason as to why my request couldn’t be accommodated, they said I paid a twilight fee and wasn’t guaranteed 18 holes, although I booked on golfnow for 18 holes and on the course website they had mentioned twilight fees would be given to make up for holes being closed, and it was considered their 18 hole price at the time.

All in all, it was a miscommunication and the course tried to deflect any blame that day, I won’t be returning and I wouldn’t recommend this course.

Good conditions , play is a bit slow some holes tend to back up.

Nice course in good condition, fun layout, but can't access 8 of the holes due to construction. They accommodate best they can but those are also the newer 8 holes and it's unfortunate to not be able to play the full round. Two guys we played with quit after 10. Construction is on the 401 highway and not the course, but people won't be able to access the other 8 holes until the 401 construction finishes, got the indication it could be a while.
