The catch! Photo submitted by GolfGTA on 08/02/2013
This course is a true links course
This golf course plays longer than its yardage. Elevation changes and wind make for difficult club selections. 11th hole into the wind turns this par 4 into a real test.
Over five hours to play
While the course condition was good, the pace of play was not. Although most players seem to be using carts, we were continuously waiting to take the next shot. The design of the course, which is on the sides of an old garbage dump, does lend itself to slower play, if not marshalled correctly. It wasn’t marshalled well, actually not at all and we were unable to finish our round. After speaking with a club employee, he indicated that “oh, this is a public course and there are slower beginner golfers”. Not an good response.
Solid Golf Course
I've played Braeben many times over the years. Really enjoy the challenging holes and the view.
Last time out however, I thought the greens were particularly unimpressive compared to rounds past. Slow and in need of upkeep. Fairways were also fair but I've seen better conditions at Braeben.
Will continue to play, but may reconsider if course conditions get much worse than that.
Really enjoy the course when it's maintained.
And all golfers - fix your ball marks, plus another, on all greens please and thanks.
Good day
Friendly, helpful, courteous staff, who did nothing but smile and provide assitance. Great weather, slight overcast with a steafy breeze. Lovely views of the city .
Fun course
Great course. We played early and fast. Some Fairways could use a little more space between it and the next fairway given how tight they are but overall it’s a really fun layout. Highly reccomend this course.
Links golf
This course is in good condition considering how many people hack through it. It’s a tight links course with some fun holes. Thr greens can get fast and the fairways tight so it can play tough. Overall a good round but it’s always busy.
Braeben Golf Course - 18 Hole Course
For anyone who has played this course you will know that it is built on what once was "wasteland" - it was a dump site for the City of Mississauga. They have turned it into a challenging "links-style" course that can play very differently depending on the weather and the tee boxes selected. The yardage on the card belies the difficulty and therefore correct club selection is critical. Many of the holes are uphill and/or into the wind which is always present to some degree as the course is quite elevated in places. The rough height (at least today) was about 3+ inches and it is immediately next to the fairway on most holes - i.e. there is no "first cut" or "semi-rough". So, knowing how your shots will react re distance and direction is key. Also, for those not having played this course often (this was my 3rd time) it is critical to know which way the fairway bends and where the safest spots to land your ball are. GPS units were available on the carts which helped a great deal. Course conditions overall were good with only a couple of greens still showing some damage from this past winter. Putts rolled true for the most part but many of the greens have significant undulation so pace is very important to avoid 3 putts and more. The fairways were quite wet in spots which prevented balls from rolling out on some holes but for the most part that wasn't an issue. Round was completed by 4 golfers in just over 4 hours. Tee time was 10:00AM and finished just past 2:00PM. No significant waiting and no holding anyone else up. I'm working on improving my "mechanics" (aren't we all) so using the range and putting green helped there as well. All in all a great day (not too hot), good company and fun golf !
Always fun at Brea Ben
Great staff. Many risk/reward holes. Which all adds up to make it a fun round.
Great course
Played from the tips and really enjoyed it. Greens a bit on the slow side but rolled true. Wind is always a factor and working the ball is a must.
Late arrivals
In my opinion if a foursome is late for their tee time I would think they should wait until others whose tee time has arrived should be be allowed to play first. But instead the starter made my group wait while the late arrivals pranced through us to the first tee making us wait. Maybe this policy should be addressed.
Greens
Greens have a sickness and are very bumpy. The fescue is too long on certain holes and bunkers were not racked.
Not great
Greens in poor shape pace of play on back nine ridiculous 4 guys held up the whole course never had this before at this course
Good location
Ok conditions for the time of year. Many uneven lies in the fair way. Too many blind approaches to holes, some from even inside 150. Greens were a little rough. No chipping practice green. The rough was quite punishing
Golf now changed my confirmed tee time of 3pm to 3:54. At the last minute even though I had a confirmation got 3pm. Not too happy as due to the ridiculously slow pace of play, I was forced to skip a hole and pass a very slow group of golfers. Just barely got our round in due to darkness. Plus the greens were in absolutely terrible condition. FsurwYs were in decent dhspe. Won’t go back for a while until the greens are much better .
