The catch! Photo submitted by GolfGTA on 08/02/2013
Great undulation of fairways and greens, unforgiving to poor driver play
The pace slowed up significantly on the back 9 mostly due to groups attempting to reach par 5's in two shots. The feskew is very unforgiving and well placed drives are necessary on several holes. Our scores were 78, 86 and 90 respectively and are a fair representation of skill level +/- 2 strokes which can be attributed to the feskew.
Overall this is a great course to play in an unbeatable location.
Good value and course condition for money! GPS is included!
This is my go to course in the GTA. It is centrally located and is always in consistent, good shape. It can be challenging if the wind picks up. On a calm day, it requires precise and confident shot making.
All around a good time!
Club house amenities are rather weak, actually non existent.
Course was in good shape except for the greens that are in very poor shape.
"Target-links-style" on top of Mississauga
Want a good test, especially if the winds are up? Look no further than Braeben. Yes, it is reclaimed land, but what the designers did here is a masterpiece - no real hokey holes, just a layout that will thrill and disappoint at the same time. So bring an extra sleeve or two! This is excellent value on top of Mississauga.
thar she blows
Windiest round of my life.....
Whatever the MPH wind measurement is at ground level, double it for Braeben because of it's highly elevated location above the city of Mississauga. There is no protection from the wind at all on any hole, so if the wind is up, it's a real challenge to score well there.
Ball was moving (by the wind) on the greens and blowing off some tees..making for a somewhat stressful round of golf.
However, the course is quite nice, so I hope to go back and play on a less windy day.
Braeben has unique views of the city
Staff was friendly, course was in good shape and presents some interesting challenges being built on a landfill. Would recommend using the driver sparingly!
Tough Round
Braeben is a GREAT facility … they offer a no-frills brand of golf … nice club house … practice facility … AND a good golf course …
The thing is with Braeben … KEEP IT STRAIGHT … that's the big take-away … if you can't keep it straight … you're in for a tough day … I mention this because MY day went badly because I couldn't keep it straight … BUT … I'll be back … it's tough to score at Braeben but it's a great indicator of whether you are able to control your golf ball …
Greens need water and reseeding
Play this course regularly as it's close to home.
Pros:
Reasonable rates
Challenging holes, but not too penalizing.
Cons:
Greens after being pretty good last week have deteriorated considerably. Especially the par 3 over the pond from the elevated tees. Some have become so bare in places that there are patches of hard soil instead of green.
Pace of play sufferable but already becoming slow.
Some of the starers are not exactly cordial but some are so I rated favorably.
New cart girl sped past us several times without stopping claiming she didn't see us despite we being 4 playes on the fairway.
Challenging but user-friendly for all levels.
Challenging with narrow fairways and well-placed bunkers. Somewhat forgiving because of open, links concept.
Well-defined targets for approach shots.
Great Challenge
Challenging course. Great for the golf enthusiast who wants a challenge. We played on a day when the rough was thick and high (it wasn't cut because of recent rain). It was our first time through the course so a lot of the blind shots were hard to judge. The fairways are also quite narrow so overall it can be a challenge. However, we enjoyed the lay out and the conditions and would recommend this course if you can get a good rate.
Good challenge usually windy
Cart path only due to early wet conditions so difficult to give a fair assessment.
Past rounds have been enjoyable.
Tends to be expensive on weekends for a municipal course.
April 27' 2013
Pricey for pretty poor spring conditions. Very little grass on the greens. Understand weather has been tough, but rates should not be this high for a muni with these condition
Braeburn is an interesting layout - right in the middle of the city!
The two issues I have with Braeben are the condition of the greens and the bunkers. I have played the course at all times of the season and every time - even in the middle of summer - the greens are in poor condition. The sand in the bunkers in not raked and turned so often a routine bunker shot turns into an issue because the sand is hard packed or uneven.
Nice course
We manage to conquer very windy weather , this course build on a waste dump is elevated so the wind had a field day with us, and we were the only players but we did for the love of golfing,
we 'll come back when weather will be nice and can drive the cart
on it
Well kept fairways and greens
Will go again shortly. Enjoyed the fairways and greens
Nice surprise
First time on this course, was pleasantly surprised. A lot of very good holes to keep your interest, one or two goofy ones. Challenging and long from the back tees. It was in good shape overall. Great deal on golfnow, maybe overpriced at regular green fee.
excellent value and convenient location
Great to play in the Fall with little leaves. Course was in excellent shape and pace was good
.
Great day sunny and played inside 4 hrs
Great staff,
there was no leaves so good
first of all , that course is very close from my home.
easy access and clean course all over.
all employees are very kind .
Nice layout - old school links style
Nice course - having #1 rated hole as first hole somewhat cruel.
layout works well with great use of limited space right in the heart of city.
Wind always blows - and every holes seems to be into the wind?
