Pheasant Run Golf Club - Highlands

About
Pheasant Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of scenic, challenging golf. The nine-hole Highlands Course features a rolling landscape that is dotted with dense thickets of mature trees. This layout is the longest of the three nines at 3,380 yards from the back tees and it is also considered to be the most difficult. The golf course has a target-style layout, much like the Midlands nine at Pheasant Run Golf Club, with plenty of trees and elevation changes that demand accuracy. The undulating terrain also provides scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The golf course opens with a long par 5 with a narrow fairways cut among cedar forests.

Great fall day for golf! Photo submitted by jonefraser on 10/20/2012
Beautiful Course
First 9 holes were amazing. The course is in great shape, super peaceful, everything is so green with some picturesque views. The second 9, still beautiful but we were stuck behind a foursome that apparently had no clue what pace of play means. I should have known what we were in for when we spotted the one "golfer" In a fluorescent tshirt that would make WHAM proud.
No matter, very nice course, give it a try.
Pleasant Surprise
Have not played here in several years as I felt it was overpriced and the staff was not that pleasant. Decided to give it another try with the Golfnow rate.
The course was in great shape. Very green which is admirable give how dry it gas been. we teed off on time at 8:20 and we had a 3hr 15 min. round. INCREDIBLE. !!!! My only comment, made a the clubhouse is that they didn't have rakes at several bunkers and few on others. They need to spend big and get another 30 rakes.
Thanks for giving us another try! I've got to say, we've seen some real changes here the past few years - I'm glad you noticed the improvements. I'll take your rake observation under advisement, but personally, I'd like to see more bunkers sodded over!
Pheasant Run
Very challenging course with demanding and precise tee shots. The greens were very well kept, fast, yet very receptive to approach shots. It is a very beautiful and scenic layout.
Will be playing this course many times over. It is among my favourite courses in the GTA
Hey Patrick!
Much thanks for the 'Excellent' rating!
So happy to be in your rotation of favourite golf destinations!
Nature walk
Beautiful course in exceptional shape. Lots of mature trees line many holes. Staff are welcoming and helpful. On the downside the sand traps are compacted and there is a lot of poison ivy in the brush.
Thanks for posting, 1wont!
The course is in great shape, but often I get to work in the morning and am most struck by the beautiful forests and natural surroundings. It's just good therapy there!
We will be working on the bunkers over the next two weeks and I hope that you notice a big difference next time you're out - as for that poison ivy - better stay out of those beautiful woods!
great course upset with staff
on the eighteenth hole they turned on the sprinklers right next to us and got us completely soaked. and after finishing our front nine around 6:30 they had already closed the snack bar and were not serving any drinks while it was 30 degrees outside. very upsetting
Hello M,
Sorry to hear you got soaked- we set up the program to start after the last players have finished, but something went badly wrong.
As for food and beverage, I checked with the manager and checked the transaction records which showed the last sale occurred about 7:30 that night. Regardless, something about your experience wasn't right. Please give me a call to set things straight at (905) 960-3917
Plays Long
We played from the white tees as course plays long. Lots of elevated greens which were quick. A very picturesque course
This course does play long- the yardage numbers don't seem to add up unless you can keep the ball on the fairway - often a problem for me! Thanks for checking in with a positive review
Good venue, tough course!
We wanted to play somewhere new and the hot deal was good value. If you're an occasional golfer, the white tees will offer the most enjoyment. We played the blues and, although i enjoyed it, two of my friends found it tough never having played it before. A lot of saucer shaped greens with the ball rolling off if you were a couple of yards off line! Take plenty of balls unless you hit it straight!! Wouldn't mind playing it again but it would have to be a good hot deal to get me to go back!!
Thanks for the solid review, Steve.
and thanks for bringing up a great topic that really impacts ones enjoyment of the game. Play from the tees that make sense for your level of play.
Even if you hit your drive long, the white tees make sense if you typically score over 80. You'll be coming into most greens with shorter irons and more accuracy.
You'd find those 'saucer shaped greens' would be a lot more receptive!
Excellent
Well maintained course, little challenging though.
nice scene.
Thanks for the 'Excellent' rating, Rare Dragon!
This course is more than a 'little challenging'- it's a course that tries every aspect of your game. It will deliver satisfying results with persistence, however.
Really nice layout
I love that this course is not surrounded by homes. It is in the woods and rarely do you feel like you are playing stacked holes (where you play down one and then right back again on the next hole). Several of the holes feature greatly elevated greens.
We really enjoy the feeling of complete escape here, with my parents home being the only residence within sight of the property . No hydro corridor, train tracks, or other structures either. Just the company of green spaces.
Great afternoon with some friends
Free bottle of water due to the extreme heat, was a great way to start. It was busy and the Marshall was around making sure pace of play was good. We lost some balls, found some balls, laughed and played some good golf here and there.
Golf can be a 'here and there' kind of experience! Just gotta try and keep those balls on the grass and out of the trees! Thanks for coming out
Great Conditions!
Played Pheasant Run for the first time this year in a Golf Tournament last weekend. The course is in the best shape in several years, from tee to green. The fairway conditions were comparable to most private clubs in the GTA. The new square tee boxes look fantastic and add a modern touch to the golf course. Well done!
Thanks for your comments Mark - I'm very proud of the way the course is looking this year and will make sure the staff that made it so will hear about it. The new shapes of the tee boxes took a while for me to get used to, but I 've heard a lot of positive feedback to them- thanks for adding yours!
Friday evening golf
We finished in 3.5 hours this Friday evening. Staff was nice and I would recommend this course to all my friends.
Thanks for your comments, Mr. Devil
Its astounding how fast a round can be played if your schedule is flexible. Not only can you get a better rate, but you often get the whole place to yourself
Challenging course
This is the first time I have played in this course and I like it. The course is very challenging, you must hit good shots else you get in trouble. As expected, I lost a lot of balls here. Elevated greens, narrow fairways, hilly layout, water hazards, bunkers, and the list goes on. The course is well-maintained.
Sorry you lost so many balls... But really glad you found us. Thanks for checking us out and for the great review!
Nice course
Course was well kept. It has 3x nine-holes and you are told what 9's you are playing that day. Cart was included with golfnow and I'm glad it was. Although there were people walking, I found it VERY hilly and it would have been an exchuating round. Pace was just ok...still waited on 2 or 3 holes. Narrow fairways lead to a fun and challenging round. Overall great day and I will return throughout the summer
Thanks for the 5 star rating, Sheera! We've been here over 35 years, but I still get a kick hearing from first time visitors. I like to walk when I play, but I usually pick up a cart for the back 9 - this place has got a lot of hills! I'm glad you had such a great day and hope you get back to check out the nine you didn't get to this week.
Twilight special.
Really enjoyed course. Highlands and uplands. Course in good shape. Green really fast. Enjoyed a burger and beer after round. Really good.
Thanks for the post. I played last night, too. Plenty of three puts. Hot dog after. Tasty

Best food I have ever had a golf course! Well done!
DK
Greens were quite rough and patchy, glad we didn't pay full pop. Maintenance required.
The last week of May can be quite challenging with the flowering of the Poa Annua in our greens. It makes a great playing surface for most of the year, but for 1 or 2 weeks, its appearance can be just as you describe- patchy. The good news is- we're almost our of that season. I'm sure that on your next visit you'll find things looking more as you expect.
It has been Years
Forgotten how good and scenic it is .
Thanks for getting back to us! I hope we get to be on your regular rotation.
Definitely worth it
Great course with nice scenery. Alot of hills and trees. Definitely recommend it
Hills and trees- that describes it! High up on the Oak Ridge Moraine offers a view of Southern Ontario at its best. Thanks for noticing!
Pheasant surprise!!
Staff really professional-in the pro shop, bag-cart help, starter- all made you feel welcome. Three nines make it quite nice for smooth round- about 3 3/4 hours with a cart. There were a good number of walkers for those who are better fit than I. Most greens had patch work that will take some time to blend in. Outside of that I look forward to returning
Sounds like we hit all the right notes on your visit - 'Excitement, Warmth, and Fun!' I'll pass on your remarks to the staff. Thanks for posting!
This course has tight fairways.
The varieties of hills and elevations make this course interesting. You do not need to hit long, but you have to be accurate on your shots.
Thanks for braving some cool Ontario spring weather to play this weekend! It's great to think of summer just around the corner.
Hello David,
Sounds like overall a good experience except for some other players. We've stepped up marshalling this year to try to keep things moving as they should, but with 27 holes, sometimes they aren't always where they can be the most help. If it happens to you again, please call the proshop- we'll dispatch someone immediately to your exact spot to help smooth out the pace.
