The Golf Club at Lora Bay
About
Tucked away in the Blue Mountains, The Club at Lora Bay offers a stunning view of the Georgian Bay. The golf course was carved from the mature woodlands along the Nipissing Ridge, incorporating wildlife preserves and century-old barns into the design. The scenic course even features idyllic apple orchards along the fairways. While the rustic charm can be enchanting, don't let it distract you too much from the challenging layout. Numerous bunkers are strategically placed throughout and brooks and ponds come into play on several holes. The third hole is one of the toughest on the golf course. It is the longest par-3 with a pond that runs all along the right side from tee to green and trees and a tricky bunker to the left.

Traps were very difficult, no sand, to firm, to many.
Disappointed
Thought I'd give lora bay one more time to see if they had improved. Sadly, they haven't. On course amenities are nil. Bunkers are horrific, unless you enjoy hitting on cement. Carts are outdated. For a high end golf community, the course has become low end.
Bunkers need some work.
Everything was great other then the traps. I know they are supposed to be hazardous. But it was hard to call it sand. Lots of small rocks in the mix and the grass around the traps was often longer then the OB grass. Just seemed to take away from the overall great condition of the course.
Review
Nice course. Very quiet and peaceful. In future will play back 9 as it’s more scenic and no houses near except on last hole. Front 9 almost all holes have houses by them, making it feel a little congested. Greens should be up-kept better as they looked torn up. Overall good and would come back.
What a gem
Was a great experience, absolutely amazing course ill defently be coming back ..
We'll never be back
The course staff felt our pace of play was too slow. After the 9th hole, we were instructed to skip the 10th hole and head right to the 11th hole. Therefore no halfway snack/drink/restrooms. So we rushed to the 11th hole where a foursome was waiting for the group ahead of them to tee off ... then the course staff instructed us to go back to 10, but drop on the fairway and just play half a hole. Are you kidding?? For $168, we expected a much nicer course with decent scenery. Let alone not being allowed to play a hole.
Maybe 2-3 holes have nice views ... let alone being hassled by the Marshall/etc. We'll never be back. What a shame, we live nearby too. Thumbs down. What a bunch of jokers at this place.
Lovely Course
We played this course and found it very enjoyable. The fairways are wide open which is great for driving, and yet it is challenging when you get to the green. We would definitely recommend this course, and attend again
Great,
My daughter and I played this course for the first time and it was fantastic! Loved the views and design of the course!
The Importance of Warming Up
Lora Bay is a fine course, with excellent practice and warm up facilities.
However, I would like more time for warm up than the alotted 30 minutes, which must include getting to the first tee, putting and chipping warm up, so really only 20 minutes.
Of all the courses we have played in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, North America, and New Zealand. this is the only course that imposes that restriction. The management should reconsider, and put in adequate practice facilities.
Cart Path only
We loved the golf course and totally understand the cart path only which is why they have kept the course in such great shape. It made for a long day with some waiting due to slow groups ahead - ranger was very good trying to move everyone along. It would be a tough course to walk due to some steep climbs but don't let that scare you - it is a terrific golf course.
Waste of a day
Where do I start? As a former club professional there are just ways you do things and ways that you don't. This place gets ir all wrong. From the waiver you must sign when you get in the pro shop to the 10,000 word rules and regulations that is an insult to anybody that has played the game it is just a pompous, overpriced, bad golfing experience.
I was notified by email that the course was cart path only. That is fine. However, I called before the 90 minute drive and asked if the range was open and if there were any other changes. I was informed all was good. After arriving the range was out of balls and we were told sorry. So now we had an hour to kill. Let's grab lunch. A $32 chicken Caesar salad and $22 order of 10 wings later we were off to the tee. We then met the starter who informed us that all traps were out of play. Some were unplayable but 80% were just fine with a simple early morning maintenance.
Once we started playing it didn't get better. Fairways had no distinction from the rough. No mow ines and about as long as a local muni. Greens were average. Play was slow (4 twosomes in 6 groups didn't help) and rangers who were ignorant and felt they were working at Augusta. I could go on about this issue but neither should be on a golf course. Absolutely no clue what their job entails.
For the record this is the first time I took the time to leave a negative review. It is not my style. However, it was that bad. I wouldn't pay here again if it was free.
Great layout but…
Tough day in the heavy wind. Some interesting and tough holes. Course condition was very inconsistent. Gravel in some bunkers not right on any level. Overall a nice layout but not worth $140 pp.
You need to put signs on the first and ninth tee advising that there is a creek XX yards from the green as the approach is blind. Unfair to first timers. On 14, my wife would have hit from up top as she thought her tee was probably part way down the hill. Disappointing to be only 100 yds out. Perhaps a sign indicating so women have a choice.
Time for some new carts. Seat ripped. Steering and braking lousy.
Stop Building Monster Homes and Reverse the Nines
Great course that hopefully won’t be wrecked as they try to squeeze more and more McMansions onto the property. Is it a golf course? Is it a housing development? And, switch the nines so that the course starts with a few manageable holes and not two visually intimidating brutes.
Course was in excellent shape...
No surprises here, Lora Bay was in great shape and for the late day rate, it was a good value. Unfortunately, the group playing behind us insisted on blasting their music for the entire back nine. Because it was late in the day, I assume there was no marshaling presence, which was disappointing for a club of this stature.
Pretty course
Course was nice, felt rushed with people behind us and the non friendly marshal. I feel when you pay that much money for the game hate being rushed. We ate dinner afterwards very small portions of food we left being hungry. Short staff but very friendly.. have ate their lots pre COVID but won’t go back to eat or golf..
