Good course... friendly staff
They needed a marshal to put all the twosomes together. Extremely slow since everyone was a twosome. We asked if the people behind us wanted to join us and they declined. i get it in part but it slows everything down
in very poor shape
under new ownership and still in very poor shape. bunkers with hard sand and rocks. dandilions everywhere.
needs some work
Course was in poor condition good be a decent short layout but has been neglected for a long time --- start back at square one -- focus on service and taking care of the course
Great Condition
Good challenge for a shorter course. Greens are some of the best I've played on. Nice views of the lake too.
Banal
Sorry I wasted my time and money here. Heard about the changes and wanted to check them out. Still a hole in the wall. I found the staff to be testy and rude. Maybe the owners should pay them? Is everyone a volunteer there? my pants were full of dust from the cart paths and blowing sand in the parting lot. No where to shower and clean up afterwards.
Marlwood golf course review
management have made some real improvements to this course. A lot of trees were taken down to open the course to the adjacent lake. The greens are a 5 star rating now, the fairway a 4 star and the clubhouse has been entirely re done. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall a 4 star rating.
Members Own the New Owners
Real owners of the course are the members. Can't get play when you want to because differnt set of rules for the members and public. But blame new owner. He only wants weddings. He thinks members are misers and cheap. Bunkers are hard clay. New Owner has poorly trained staff. Worst Golf experience ever. Lost too many balls in the thick rough.
Best it has Ever Been
Course has come a long way since its re-opening mid-June. The greens are outstanding, the sand traps have what seems to be new sand, and the overall condition of the course is excellent. I played here for years and have not seen it this nice. Good to see the course busy on a long weekend with nice weather.
Terrible - Never Again
I have played this course a few times this year and last Saturday was the third time I have walked off the course without completing my round. The first two times was a result of slow play and there being 18 people on the 1st tee at the same time.
I pointed out to the gentleman in the pro shop that they were still selling tee times on golf now for our tee time which was obviously booked and he seemed to take exception to this stating that they were not overbooking the tee slots.
Last Saturday was my last round on this course, whilst we were on the course there was a single player playing in front of myself and my wife, when we got to the 8th green I noticed he was playing 5 balls off the 9th tee. This was backing up the course. When the single player finished the 9th he exited the green and I took my shot, unknown to me he was still playing one of his 5 balls and walked back out on to the fairway (after putting out one ball). My wife and I shouted fore as my ball was in the air, he looked over said nothing and putted out another ball.
When we finished the ninth I spoke to two employees in the starters hut and explained the issue with the slow play, neither seemed very concerned and made no attempt to speak with the single player who was now on the tenth fairway (playing several balls). When I made my way to the tee I noticed my wife was upset and she informed me that the single player had shouted at her, calling her a f***ing b***h. We both teed of and walked down the tenth. The single player was on the 11th tee shouting and swearing at myself and wife. I approached him and explained to him we shouted fore (which is what he seemed to be complaining about). As I came closer to him he swung his club in the air and continued shouting and swearing.
As a result we walked back to the starters hut and informed both employees that they should probably call the cops, one of which went out to speak to the single player. This is the 1st time in 20 years as a golfer that anything like this has ever happened, it maybe preventable if there was a marshall on the course, which there is not on this course. It is an absolute shambles, we will not be back.
BY FAR THE WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
BY FAR THE WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE...they kept sending golfers out before tee time...I had a twosome in front then a single in front of them then another twosome......the back up behind my group was 6 parings deep...it took 4 hours for the front nine. Fairways were burnt grass, bunkers we concrete, greens totally chewed up. IF YOU HAVE ANY APPRECIATION FOR THE GAME OF GOLF...AVOID THE PAIN OF THIS DISAPPOINTMENT....SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

manager not friendly!
Course was in decent shape, manager was not very friendly, seems it was men's league day and there was different rules for the public then men's league members. Was told to keep cart on paths but the members were allowed to be off the paths. There was next to no food selection, our food was ordered and we were asked to continue with round and food would be brought out to us, with no condiments. Course was challenging and fun
Great course
Loved the course and would go again. It does have its challenges but I would recommend it.
Needs considerable work
Pace of play wasn't good....quit after the front nine. Bunkers remain really unplayable . T boxes are in poor condition and not level or flat. I understand that the course just reopened in June but I would say it has deteriorated since then.
contrast between front and back 9's
Front nine much more difficult than back 9. Longer holes, more hazards, more doglegs. and some narrow fairways 3, 7,8,9 quite challenging.
|Back 9 fairly wide open and flatter and shorter. great for beginners.
The Jewel is starting to shine brightly!
Marlwood has come out of receivership and is with new owners since mid-June. The owners are great and the staff reflects the owners pride of ownership and love of golf.
The front nine is quite challenging and everything about this course is geared to thinking about position.
The back nine is a little shorter but you really need to think about your approaches.
The bunkers have had sand added to them and are back in play as they are groomed.
The beverage cart comes around enough times to allow you to stay hydrated.
Clubhouse and restaurant will be renovated but the food is good and good value. Have the fish and chips. If they have their steak or pork chop special those are also good.
Beautiful scenery and beats any day at work!
Marlwood
Front nine is very good. Back nine is not very good at all. Would play the front nine twice if I could.
Learning curve
New owners are on a the early stage of the learning
curve.
Bunkers have never been playable over the years and the new owners plan to set that straight.
When that is done then the club house will need attention.
This will be a great place to have fun when it is rehabilitated.
some picturesque holes
greens alittle slow......bunkers need work..........overall I would play again and recommend to others
Work in Progress.....but improving
Course is just under New Management and is in pretty good shape considering. Needs some TLC but is a work in progress, once the Long Term Plan by New Management is achieved will be a true Gem.
what golfcourse in ontario lets your shower and clean up after there round?
