BY FAR THE WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE
BY FAR THE WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE...they kept sending golfers out before tee time...I had a twosome in front then a single in front of them then another twosome......the back up behind my group was 6 parings deep...it took 4 hours for the front nine. Fairways were burnt grass, bunkers we concrete, greens totally chewed up. IF YOU HAVE ANY APPRECIATION FOR THE GAME OF GOLF...AVOID THE PAIN OF THIS DISAPPOINTMENT....SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

manager not friendly!
Course was in decent shape, manager was not very friendly, seems it was men's league day and there was different rules for the public then men's league members. Was told to keep cart on paths but the members were allowed to be off the paths. There was next to no food selection, our food was ordered and we were asked to continue with round and food would be brought out to us, with no condiments. Course was challenging and fun
Great course
Loved the course and would go again. It does have its challenges but I would recommend it.
Needs considerable work
Pace of play wasn't good....quit after the front nine. Bunkers remain really unplayable . T boxes are in poor condition and not level or flat. I understand that the course just reopened in June but I would say it has deteriorated since then.
contrast between front and back 9's
Front nine much more difficult than back 9. Longer holes, more hazards, more doglegs. and some narrow fairways 3, 7,8,9 quite challenging.
|Back 9 fairly wide open and flatter and shorter. great for beginners.
The Jewel is starting to shine brightly!
Marlwood has come out of receivership and is with new owners since mid-June. The owners are great and the staff reflects the owners pride of ownership and love of golf.
The front nine is quite challenging and everything about this course is geared to thinking about position.
The back nine is a little shorter but you really need to think about your approaches.
The bunkers have had sand added to them and are back in play as they are groomed.
The beverage cart comes around enough times to allow you to stay hydrated.
Clubhouse and restaurant will be renovated but the food is good and good value. Have the fish and chips. If they have their steak or pork chop special those are also good.
Beautiful scenery and beats any day at work!
Marlwood
Front nine is very good. Back nine is not very good at all. Would play the front nine twice if I could.
Learning curve
New owners are on a the early stage of the learning
curve.
Bunkers have never been playable over the years and the new owners plan to set that straight.
When that is done then the club house will need attention.
This will be a great place to have fun when it is rehabilitated.
some picturesque holes
greens alittle slow......bunkers need work..........overall I would play again and recommend to others
Work in Progress.....but improving
Course is just under New Management and is in pretty good shape considering. Needs some TLC but is a work in progress, once the Long Term Plan by New Management is achieved will be a true Gem.
Great front 9, shame about the bunkers
The course was in good shape however there is a huge difference from the front 9 to the back 9. The back 9 are an add on and the holes are shorter, greens smaller. It feels like two different courses. The most disappointing thing was the bunkers, they are unplayable. There are weeds growing in them as they have no sand in them, please fill them up!
Not bad for just coming out of receivership
Decent course. Great new Owner and staff. Worth a play.
Awesome potential
This course has amazing potential. Just reopened and needs a bit of work. But it is fun and challenging
Will definitely golf here again.
Not Bad
Course played short and could not play the driver too often. Course management is a must! Small greens made the approach shots hard to stop. The greens were fast. I will play it again!
Friendly and Fun at a Fair Price
I played Marlwood on their last official ladies day and had the course pretty much to myself as i went out as they were finishing .
The set up on arrival is quite easy to navigate - just follow the signs . Received a nice welcome from the starter and he directed me in to the proshop . Was in and out quite quickly after the very friendly staff looked after me . I was about a half hour early for my tee time and they let me out almost immediately .
The course is not long at about 5400 yds but it has a good variety of holes and i think i hit almost all my clubs at least once . The conditions are pretty good and i think i had only one lie that was iffy due to turf conditions .
The greens were quite large and ran fairly quickly but not super fast . The greens did run true with the original front nine being a little straighter in general and the newer back nine having some more break .
There were a couple of times where some local course knowledge would have been helpful or at least a map on the scorecard . I did take a peek ahead on a few holes as i was unsure of distances to doglegs or where the best landing area might be ... so some markers at tees would helpful . Quick example was a par five where you were forced to layup with a medium to short iron - why not put a marker at the tee that says its X number of yards to the rough . It would certainly speed up play for the many green fee players i am sure they hope to get . To be honest , i have to admit that is my only complaint with this quaint little course .
I was playing my hickory shafted clubs again and this time i was in full " uniform " - shirt , tie , vest and plus fours . I was approached by several staff members as well as other players there and everyone was polite and helpful . I certainly have no problem saying to anyone that Marlwood was as friendly and fun as i could hope a course and its staff to be .
As for who should play there , long hitters will find it short but quite narrow if they plan on using their driver on every hole . This is a great place for them to learn how to play golf as it fits players who like to think their way around a course . A 7 hdcp can still have fun here as well as anyone who does not bomb it off the tee .
I suggest the only players who shouldn't play Marlwood are those who don't enjoy golf :) It is a nice , very walkable course that will challenge your golf IQ in spots and offer you mix of scenery including woodlands , lakes ... and a bit of housing development for those looking for a new home .
All in all , it is a nice 5400 yd golf course that doesn't pretend to be anything but just that .
Marlwood
Staff was friendly and our round was done in a good time had to wait for no one
The club house could do with some paint and clean up
Course was in good condition what more do you need
This course has some very challenging holes
Our check in was not the best> They did not have our confirmation on file so I had to wait about 15 minutes to get things figured out. The course itself is very nice and we will definitely play there again. Staff was very helpful
Be carefull on # 8.
One of the not so good holes was #8. It's a par 5 approx 400 yards. I didn't like the tee box location.
Great course for the value
A great course for the money. About 5900 from the tips.... Greens were in fantastic shape. Nice and short for players of all abilities. And the food in the clubhouse was also great with $5 pints... And a lovely server who's smile and attitude lit up the room.
