Awesome potential
This course has amazing potential. Just reopened and needs a bit of work. But it is fun and challenging
Will definitely golf here again.
Not Bad
Course played short and could not play the driver too often. Course management is a must! Small greens made the approach shots hard to stop. The greens were fast. I will play it again!
Friendly and Fun at a Fair Price
I played Marlwood on their last official ladies day and had the course pretty much to myself as i went out as they were finishing .
The set up on arrival is quite easy to navigate - just follow the signs . Received a nice welcome from the starter and he directed me in to the proshop . Was in and out quite quickly after the very friendly staff looked after me . I was about a half hour early for my tee time and they let me out almost immediately .
The course is not long at about 5400 yds but it has a good variety of holes and i think i hit almost all my clubs at least once . The conditions are pretty good and i think i had only one lie that was iffy due to turf conditions .
The greens were quite large and ran fairly quickly but not super fast . The greens did run true with the original front nine being a little straighter in general and the newer back nine having some more break .
There were a couple of times where some local course knowledge would have been helpful or at least a map on the scorecard . I did take a peek ahead on a few holes as i was unsure of distances to doglegs or where the best landing area might be ... so some markers at tees would helpful . Quick example was a par five where you were forced to layup with a medium to short iron - why not put a marker at the tee that says its X number of yards to the rough . It would certainly speed up play for the many green fee players i am sure they hope to get . To be honest , i have to admit that is my only complaint with this quaint little course .
I was playing my hickory shafted clubs again and this time i was in full " uniform " - shirt , tie , vest and plus fours . I was approached by several staff members as well as other players there and everyone was polite and helpful . I certainly have no problem saying to anyone that Marlwood was as friendly and fun as i could hope a course and its staff to be .
As for who should play there , long hitters will find it short but quite narrow if they plan on using their driver on every hole . This is a great place for them to learn how to play golf as it fits players who like to think their way around a course . A 7 hdcp can still have fun here as well as anyone who does not bomb it off the tee .
I suggest the only players who shouldn't play Marlwood are those who don't enjoy golf :) It is a nice , very walkable course that will challenge your golf IQ in spots and offer you mix of scenery including woodlands , lakes ... and a bit of housing development for those looking for a new home .
All in all , it is a nice 5400 yd golf course that doesn't pretend to be anything but just that .
Marlwood
Staff was friendly and our round was done in a good time had to wait for no one
The club house could do with some paint and clean up
Course was in good condition what more do you need
This course has some very challenging holes
Our check in was not the best> They did not have our confirmation on file so I had to wait about 15 minutes to get things figured out. The course itself is very nice and we will definitely play there again. Staff was very helpful
Be carefull on # 8.
One of the not so good holes was #8. It's a par 5 approx 400 yards. I didn't like the tee box location.
Great course for the value
A great course for the money. About 5900 from the tips.... Greens were in fantastic shape. Nice and short for players of all abilities. And the food in the clubhouse was also great with $5 pints... And a lovely server who's smile and attitude lit up the room.
Nice quiet place to play a round in Wasaga
Just a pleasant course to play. Love the shade of the trees around the course. Well tended!
Don't pay more than $20.00 for a round
I was not impressed with this course at all, especially after viewing the wesbite/photos and seeing that green fees are over $55.00 during the week. The course is old and the upkeep is below average. There are no maps or drawings of what the holes look like anywhere on the course or on the scorecard, which makes it very difficult to know which way to hit the ball from the tee, and I had to turn around three times during my round to figure out where to go or where the next hole was. But more disappointing are the run down facilities and very unfriendly staff. Unless you can get this course for under $20.00 on GolfNow, i would not recommend wasting your money. Now that I've played it once, I would never go back, no matter how cheap the round.
Great value and nice course
I have played this course several times, great layout and varying degrees of difficulty. It's a nice course and would be very easy to walk it's not too long so makes an easy play for a group with varying skill levels. Will play again soon.
Lovely course for a nice walk
First let me say that I have been playing Marlwood for years and enjoy playing the course. It's not a long course but can be challenging. It's very easy to walk and generally it is not to long to play 3 to 3.5 hours. The staff is always friendly and the course is in good condition. On this particular day we teed off at 5:30 and the cart was included. At 8:45 while on the 17th green, a young man who I recognized later as the person I payed walked up the 18th fairway and said, Can I take your cart. I said take the cart, What, Why? He said I've been waiting forever for you guys and I have some where to go.tonight. When I approached him he recognized me and apologized 3 times. I let him take the cart. However I was not impressed. Maybe they should tell you this when you tee off. It's not even dark until 9:15.
This course is close to my cottage
Lots of groups play this course so if you play you may want to ask about tournaments and groups
Nice track
Very nice little track. Length is deceiving as there are many holes where positioning is important. We had a cart through GolfNow but it would be a easy course to walk.
Challenging but manageable
I enjoy playing the Marlwood course, staff and members are friendly and helpful. For me the course is challenging but manageable .
Nice scenery
For a short course it can be tough if you dont land your ball in the proper spot. Greens in excellent shape.
Hot day but light greeze so was nice.
We had a great time, it was my first game this year and I lost lots of balls due to slice but had a good time.
Really disappointed
Booked online got a call the had to cancel the booking cause they had a tournament booked....... How do you not know you have a tournament booked? Continued the day of the tournament to have tee off time available all day. Did they really have a tournament ? Just moved into the area not impressed with my first impressision of marl wood . Good job I didn't travel from out of town.
No Wednesday bookings ......
Arrived at the course and it was men's day, there should not be any golf now bookings for this course for Wednesday's.It was frustrating and we had to golf a different course.
Course in Great shape, play very slow
Pros:
-Course in great shape
-Excellent rate for 18 H w/cart
-Staff ok
Cons:
-Rate of play very slow. Played Fri. afternoon
-Too many "ok" golfers playing from blue tees
-Drink/sandwich cart seen once for 1st 9 holes
-More washroom stalls needed
-Some holes too awkward to play
Above cons are minor, except for rate of play. Overall, the course was in very good condition and staff was fine. More rangers are needed to encourage faster play
Poor customer service
the course over booked tee times, they didn't have my confirmation from golf.now, or they said they didn't. the customer service was terrible. everybody blamed everyone else for the tee time errors. as a result i & my golf date were unable to play due to the poor course management.
