Alsatian Golf Club
About
Alsatian GC is an 18-hole with water in play. Front side fairly open and flat, almost links type play. Hole 2 surrounded by waterways and bunkers. Back side is hilly and has lots of trees. Super finishing hole with a tree in center of uphill fairway.
Throughout the course you will find challenging and beautiful fairways lined with trees and Spanish Dagger. The course also offers distance wedge game range, practice bunkers, three-level putting green, and a pre-round putting green.
Lodging: The Alsatian Inn is located approximately two miles from the club. A very nice facility, it has ninety rooms, a swimming pool, and a really good restaurant. Children under the age of fourteen stay free.
Distance: About 30 minutes from downtown on Highway
90 West to Castroville. But worth the trip.... Take Highway 90 West through Castroville; turn right at the blinking light just past the Alsatian Inn; veer left on CR 4516. Course is 2.5 miles down on the right.

A Good Sunday
My girlfriend and I had a marvelous time playing at the Alsatian GC this past Sunday. We met up with a couple of friends from Hondo and enjoyed a very relaxing round of golf. I would recommend this course for beginners who are looking for a low pace of play and an open course that is not packed full of golfers.
Course in excellent condition
Very good course, some holes tougher than others. Just enough hazards in the right places to make holes interesting. Course is in excellent condition. It was worth the trip to play here.
Good course
Overall a good course. Greens were in great shape with true roll. Fairways were decent. Bunkers needed work, way too many rocks.
Rainy day, but great fairways and greens
Booked a discounted round via Groupon. The staff were very friendly and comped me the range balls. Scheduled to play at 940 am, and was allowed off at 930 as a single. Player through two groups then teamed up with a two ball (Stuart and Ralph).
Fairways in great shape. Greens a little two paced, but fair. Easy to lose ball in even light rough. Managed to play 18 in 3.5 hours, so I was very happy. Shot 82, so I was extra happy.
Staff did not tell me that green 9 was temporary. Would have been helpful. Other than that, very happy.
The course is in great shape
I've been player here for years and it's in awesome condition
Cart path Only
Signed up to play via Golf Now, but found out when we got to the course it was cart path only. Even though the area has received a lot of rain lately, the course was dried out (except for a few areas here and there) so in my option there was no need for cart path only. Also, the rough was way too high for this course so all the groups were taking a long time walking and looking for balls. This made for a very frustrating day. Would have been better off walking, but I had already paid for cart.
Overpriced for condtions
The course isn't overtly challenging but does have some holes. However, unless I'm desperate or they're running a cheap deal, I doubt I go back any time soon, especially since the greens & traps aren't very well maintained.
GREENS WERE A LITTLE WEAK
FUN COURSE LOTS OF THINKING TO DONE HAS SOME REALLY GREAT HOLES TO BE PLAYED
Alsation
The course is a great course overall. Great value for the price. Staff is great. Only recommendation is the practice green and practice facility.
Good value
Drove out to this course not knowing what to expect? Was happy with the staff and the conditions on the course. Like most courses they are having trouble keeping there greens alive but they were ok at best.
I would drive the fifty miles to play there again. It was a fun course and during the week it's like having your own course.
Greens Issue
We were told that the course was in great condition and especially the greens. Well I have to say the tee boxes and fairways were in good to great condition. But the greens?!?!? Much to be desired. There were some greens that only had a sma patch of green. The rest was all brown. I feel that the money I spent I would see better course. But alas no.
great potential terrible condition
We play a lot of golf. Never on a course in this condition. There was little to no grass on the greens. When we hit the green and literally saw a puff of beach sand on the green we knew we werent going to be able to read the greens. There was actually more weeds than grass on the fairways. This course could be nice if someone took it over and maintained it. We stayed at the brand new rv resort right there and it again is beautiful but the weeds were higher than the flowers. What a disappointment.
BOO!!!!
I used to play this course three times a month and now I am boycotting it. I usually get the golfnow tee times, but today I took my wife at the last minute and expected to pay a reasonably high twilight price; instead I paid $80 to play at 4:30pm. Ever since the RV resort opened next to the course the people here have become money hungry. They did away with the range cards where you could buy multiple buckets at one time instead they want people to join a loyalty club, but only have reward days where you are stuck playing with a ton of members who(if you go on the weekend you know) play slow. Course was in fair condition, but I had to run in order to finish before the sun went down. The guy at the counter acted like I was getting a deal with the twilight rate, BUT NOT FOR THIS COURSE!! I'm done with this place can't wait for golf club of texas to re-open.
Nice course
We played on winter grass, but the course is very well maintained and I would love to play it in the spring.
Rainy day golf
Found an affordable tee time online. Showed up It was a little rainy for the first few holes, but the course help up well. The greens were a bit firm but considering it is still February, I guess I can't complain. Pace of play was awesome. I played with a friend who doesn't often - Shank City, but we still played under 3 1/2 hrs. Food is great at the snack bar, and the pro shop has great prices on apparel.
Extremely Slow Play
This used to be a great place to play. Not so anymore. Play was not being managed by CM. The foursome we were following had 2-3 holes open in front of them and course was backing up with no marshal anywhere to be found. Price was much too high for the shape that the course was in. Gave up and did not finish round only playing 16 holes (in 4:30 hours). Not worth the drive from San Antonio.
Great Course
Really enjoyed our round, pace of play was excellant.
ALWAYS FUN
Alsation is always a great change of pace. Not as long and not as manicured it as other courses it has just enough of everything to make a great round of golf. It has always shown improvement every visit we make. The staff are "country-friendly" and do a fantastic job to make you feel welcome. If you visit try a cheese burger, one of the best I've had in the area.
Good course, great facility-money mix up
Booked a hot deal for me and 3 buddies for a great price. Due to weather we had the course to ourselves most of the day. Great greens. Course was a little soggy but had some decent rain and hasn't seen the sun for about 4 days so not really there problem. Only complaint I have is that we had another friend join us who didn't get the deal on golf now so had to pay full price.(not my complaint) But He paid with his credit card but for some reason my credit card that I used to book the golf now deal with was charged and we didn't know until the next day. I hadn't even given my credit card to the pro shop so I don't know how they could have used my card anyway. I called the course and asked why my card was charged and didn't really get any help just more confusion. Basically I was told to contact my friend and try to get my money from him and that the course might comp my cart rental fee next time I come and play. Ridiculous if you ask me. There mess up cost me money. I'll play here again but I'll be more careful with the pro shop and make sure they charge people correctly.
