Freeport Municipal Golf Course
About
Freeport's muni is more of a links-style track noted for its solid par 5 holes. Water comes into play in the form of rivers and lakes, but the course isn't overloaded with water. The par 5s in question each play well over 500 yards, and they're all rated as the most difficult holes on the course. No. 9 is the longest at 557 yards, but the most difficult is No. 7 at 520 yards.
Getting there : Driving north on Hwy. 36, turn right at Slaughter Rd. You will see the course when Slaughter dead-ends.

Great greens
For it being December the greens are full. No dead spots. Unlike some high dollar courses
Little far
Drove from Houston in 1hr 15 min. Easy drive.
It’s above average for a municipal course with great greens and areas around the green. Bunkers are good and very playable-will kept.
Fairways are ok and playable. Grass varies from Bermuda to Saint Augustine mix together.
Green fee reasonable between $10-$25.
Laid Back Saturday
My wife and I played on a Saturday. Weather was about perfect with a little wind. The driving range was closed and the practice putting green was under re-construction, so we were not able to warm up. That was disappointing. The staff was friendly. There were plenty of people playing that day but we had no issues with pace of play. I booked a "hot deal" and we only paid $15 per person for this round. A very good deal. After the round we drove over to a fish house and had a very good diner. A very nice day indeed!
It was a challenge
While looking for a early morning round on Sunday, i came across the golf course, i have played municipal courses before, so my expectations wasn't all that high, but when i showed up, the pro shop staff was very friendly and welcoming, went out to the driving range and again it was what i was expecting for such course, but when i started playing i was in awe, the layout was a challenge to itself, but with the wind and all the water in the course made it that much more fun for me, bee from the Caribbean, that is what i am use to playing. Really enjoyed the course, i am going back this weekend with few friends, weather permitting.
Good course
Enjoyed playing this course. A lot of water will keep you honest and those Galveston Co. winds. Several beautiful holes on the Brazos at the start of the back nine - wish they would trim the shoreline tight to show that off! Its a long drive, but I'll be back. Very good value.
Surprise
First of all, excellent layout and conditions.
Greens were some of the best in Houston area.
Sand traps well kept and consistent. Good layout and challenging for all level of players.
Only draw back were the fairways not being cut-hope this is not norm.
Long drive from Houston but worth it.
Freeport
I went there expecting the course to be d and worn out, but it is well kept. They are doing a few make overs to it but it is a nice course to play. I enjoyed every minute of it. I'll be making another trip there pretty soon. The price is great for the course that you are getting to play. The course is very open so you can't lose many balls. If you get a chance take a ride to freeport and play this course you will enjoy it.
Way Overrated
This course is way overrated at 41/2 stars. It was a reasonable value but if I’m driving that far again I’m going to The Wilderness, which is a MUCH BETTER course.
Great value for everyone, especially for beginners!
Staff friendly and not bothersome. Tee boxes could use some attention. Seeing improvements all the time.
I love this couse 18 Holes for under $10 (Tuesday 10:30 Tee Time) Close to home and fun.
Progressively getting better maybe one day I'll have the club champion parkin space.
