Sharpstown Park Golf Course
About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

A joke
First thing is on golf now it says it was going to cost me $28 but we get to the course an it’s $38 which ruined my experience right there cause that was the only reason I went there. I could have played at other courses near my house for that price which are way better. An the course is in bad condition the greens had divots on every hole an on some of the greens they had tiny rocks on them. An the pace of play was horrible an had kids jump on the course from there house at 8.
Pace of play always an issue
Slow play golfers and lack of course marshals make for a very long round. Today took 9 holes for the slowsome in front of us to let us play through.
Difficult
Pretty difficult course for an average player. Many long par 4s, well over 400 yard yards Large fast greens..A high handicap golfer will have a great challenge. They should find an easier course.
Fair price, but not maintained well in the winter.
This course is ok, but didn’t leave me dying to play again. Limited practice facilities (net, small putting/chipping areas) were reasonable for a public course. The course had fairly short rough, which made it easy to find every ball you hit. However, the grass was dead in large patches around the course, and many areas were muddy and barren of grass. Around the greens were much better and you could chip fine. Greens were fairly fast, no real complaints there, although it rained the day before I played so some moisture was still noticeable. Pace of play was very good, I finished 17 holes in just over 2 hours (riding, skipped one hole) so that was a redeeming factor. Lots of housing next to the course is fine, but many locals were walking around the course while I was playing, which disrupted my round on occasion and was distracting as well. Nothing special, but I might give it another chance in a better time of year.
Exceeded Expectations
Course and especially the greens were in great shape (fast and receptive). Staff was very nice and the burger after the round was excellent. Went in expecting a course that was maintained to muni standards but was wrong. Will be back.
Great little course
Green challenging
Fair ways fair some iffy lies
Playing it again Monday great price
Public courses
These are some of the best greens I’ve ever played on. Pace is pretty slow and people on the course don’t seem to care. I think this is a fair place to play! Course will reward you for good shots and make you pay for bad ones. The holes need to be leveled after they are cut though. All the holes seemed to have a raised lip around them( ball would break both directions at the hole). Can’t beat the price and has enough of a challenge to make for a fun round. I’ll continue to play this course regularly.
SLOW
The greens are in great shape however the fairways are Texas Hard pan. The worst was how slow it was it took 2;5 hours for 9 holes and I just left because we were waiting 10 mins between holes.
Nice course
Fast greens, nice fairways. Great course for the money.
Pace Ok
Pace better than usual. Course always in good shape. Lots of walkers play the course.
Very slow play. Lack of marshals to speed golfers.
Very slow play. No marshals to speed up slow play. Course is in great shape and a good value for the money. Having a cart is a problem too, lots of singles in a cart by themselves playing with their buddies.
Stuck behind golfers with later tee time
We played on a Tuesday morning at 9 am. It was over-booked and started out pretty slow. We also got paired up with a couple other guys.
We got there 15 mins before our tee time (there is no real driving range to practice so we gave ourselves time to check in and get going) but the line inside took 10 mins. Got to hole 1 5 mins before our start time and were told that we were behind a group of 3 because “they were here first” even though they had a tee time 20 mins after us. Definitely wouldn’t recommend, especially at a busy time.
Hi man! Not trying to promote anything, but I see you play a few times a week. when you are playing multiple times a week, you should consider joining somewhere. Wheres the main place you play, and your budget? At the very worst, for what you pay you will pay the same, and get a better course, better pace, better everything.
