About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

Course was in the best condition that I have ever seen it before!
Pro shop isssue
I had made my hot deal yesterday all paid for on my visa debit card. I gave the guy my tee time and name, he looked at his monitor and said that he didn’t have it. Then he said “did you use golf now?” I said yes. He said in the future just call us, we can give you a better price. Finally he printed my receipt and handed my cart key. The starter already had my name on his sheet.
Good Value
Overall in pretty solid shape. Greens and fairways in good shape. For a Friday was able to finish a round in 4 hours which isn’t bad for a muni.
Worst course management in city
This course has slow play and poor course management. We had four groups on holes 8-11at the same time. That is horrible for pace of play. 20 minutes per hole is ridiculous.
All Around Dissapointment
This course is wide open and easy to play. However the greens make it almost unplayable. The greens have no consistency as far as speed control. (I played on a sunny 85 day with no rain prior to the tee time) airation didn’t help but this felt worse. Also let’s talk about how it was a Wednesday at 1 pm and the course was literally packed. 3s-4s, duos. Everywhere. It also kinda felt like everyone was rushing everyone. Turned what could have been an enjoyable time into one big hurry up and wait round. Probably won’t be going back, even if it does have a hot deal
