Sharpstown Park Golf Course
About
Originally known as the Sharpstown Country Club back in the 1950s and '60s, and former host of the Houston Open, the course shut down amid financial turmoil until the city of Houston scooped it up in the late 1970s and hired Jay Riviere to renovate the layout.
With its generous fairways, the course is primarily known as a hacker-friendly track. Wayward tee shots are recoverable because of the relatively sparse tree-lined fairways. Even though there are some rather long par 4s, you'll be able to fire away with your driver on the straightaway holes.
The final stretch of golf is the best, with a few short par 4s and 3s as well as a birdie-able par 5.
Note that they refer to the net along No. 6 as the Zindler Net-it's a wire contraption installed to protect the home of local newsman Marvin Zindler, who lived near the course in the 1970s and '80s. Houstonites know Zindler for his infamous association with the famed La Grange chicken ranch.
Getting there : From Hwy 59 south take the Bell Aire Blvd. exit and turn right. When you come to Harbor Town Dr., turn right and the course is just down the road on the left side.

Great Muni!
I played here maybe 20 years ago and thought with some new players it would be a good course for them. The layout is the same but you can tell they take care of everything with the amount of play they get. Greens in fantastic shape. Definitely worth a shot if you don’t mind the crowds.
It took 6 hours to play a round of golf, we had to wait approximately 5 to 10 minutes on each hole. They need someone to manage the pace of play when golfers take to much time looking for balls.
Great course
The only thing bad about the course or gameplay was the way I played. Love the layout greens were nice friendly staff good people on the course.
nice muni...need local knowledge...
First time out at Sharpstown. It was in pretty good shape for a municipal course.
The greens were in pretty good shape and had decent speed.
Fairways were ok.
Bunkers were Covid style--unraked.
Tee boxes needed a little work.
Some doglegs and holes with trees in the middle of the fairway required some local knowledge as to what the best play was. Overall the course was playable, and I'll definitely go back.
No driving range, limited carts, and limited amenities. There was no on course beverage/snack cart. Not sure if this is all the time or just because of Covid.
The staff was friendly and helpful, with maybe the exclusion of the ancient that was acting as the starter--kind of clueless--wasn't sure what group was on the tee, couldn't answer any questions...at all and had taken no health safety precautions, not even a mask, not really the ideal plan when interacting with every player.
Best bargain in town
This course is amazing for a low budget muni course. The greens were lightning quick, pace was great (even with a booked tee sheet on a Tuesday afternoon), and we'll maintained. It is insane value at $19 on a Hot Deal and still great at $28 full price at the course. Will definitely play many more rounds here.
Pace of play
The course is great staff are average. But the pace of play is garbage. Like you can’t let people walk the course as packed as they get it just makes it ridiculous to play golf there an it’s such a good course especially for the price. But I just don’t know about letting people walk the course when they get that packed in the afternoon maybe if it was 3 or 5 pm but not at 10am an 12pm.
Great place to work on the game. Probably faster to walk w cart path only rule.
Easy course
Course is flat with a couple of minor water features and a couple of fairway bunkers. Most fairways are fairly narrow with lots of trees. Greens were in good condition and had some slope but nothing too challenging. My only complaint was lots of standing water due to the recent rains and being flat. Being a high handicapper I will be back again.
Great course
Great course. Fast greens. Little water. Great beginner course.
Great course
Course is in good shape and it is a great place to work on your game. The staff is friendly and the pace of play is typically good. Go play this course and have fun!
