About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Small group Texas Scramble
This was the 3rd time I have organized a small outing from my local community at the course. The layout is particularly suited to a scramble with 5 par 3 and 4 par 5 With the water hazards playing off the middle to back tees can be a challenge The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The cost was very reasonable. It is one of the best kept public courses in my area. I would highly recommend bay Forest

Course Quality
Visited recently to check conditions as I was considering joining there. The greens were good and bunkers were recently reworked. Cleanup on the course of trees downed from storms etc was improved. Fairways were thin and some tee boxes had grass patches for repairs. This course used to be very nice. Still needs some work and there was a recent fire to the clubhouse and restaurant. I’ll check back in a month or so.

Best around for the price
Always my first choice to play when I get time off work, I’m a visitor from UK 5-6 times per year and always look for a tee time at Bay Forrest
Unfortunately as a solo player I have to wait until a tee time comes up for 1 player so miss out sometimes
Staff super friendly pace of play ok never had to wait on more than one group in front.
Love the layout of the course good mix of par 3/4 n 5s some 5s reachable some 4s a struggle without a bomb!
Nice mix of easy and difficult holes where you have to think about risk or reward the stretch on back 9 from 11-16 will have you thinking (and maybe wet)
Greens roll good and are a good pace
Worth the Money
Course condition was very good especially for the money. Pace of play was good...a very solid, relaxing round of golf on a course with greens that held good shots and rolled consistent and true. Would welcome the opportunity to play this course again.

Pace of play
The pace of play would be fine if the guys in the pro shop and the starters and marshals would tell the slower players to allow faster players to play through.

I have been playing BF for years with my uncle. We love the course. The greens/fairways/tee boxes are always in good shape . The staff is super friendly. I will be back again.
