About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Needs improvement
I have been playing this course for over 16 years and it is starting to slip away from the current management. The biggest issue currently is drainage. Several of the holes are permanently cart path only even after weeks of no rain. The bunkers are unplayable and either need to be completely redone or converted to grass bunkers. The cart paths also need to be completely redone. If they aren't wiling to make changes they need to lower the price.

Nice course with friendly staff. Greens were in exceptionally "green" condition. Ball washers still not working.

Nice Course
The layout is a little strange but the course was great. The range was a swamp but everything else was good. Would play again.

Best value for a public course around south Houston
I have played Bay Forest a number of times, I keep coming back for the quality of the challenge, the condition of the greens and the friendliness of the staff. The length difference in the tee boxes makes for an interesting change in course management. The way the water comes into play on a number of holes requires good ball striking. It is in my opinion very good value for money. I would highly recommend Bay Forest to players of all skill levels.

Good shape and nice layout

He picked up a dead skunk from the tee box with a rag and disposed of him in the woods .

Better than the Average Pay and Play course
I booked 4 x4 tee times to organize a small Texas scramble with nearest the pin prizes. The staff were very accommodating has we changed out players etc. they provided an excellent all round service and ensured we had a very enjoyable day. I have played this course on a number of occasions and have found the layout with strategic use of the water hazards and trees to be challenging and yet not too punitive to soil you day when dealing with a group of players with a broad range of handicap. The fairways and greens were in good condition. I would have no hesitation in recommending the course to other players

Great municipal course
I've been playing Bay Forest golf course since 1993 and it has always been kept up with and manicured top notch. Greens are up to speed and cut regularly. Bad reviews say greens are too fast but thats just hacks who have no clue.
