About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

Not $50 good
The course was in really good condition, and the greens were great. I like this course, it just isn’t a $50 course.

Chilly Day at the Bay
Despite all of the recent rains the course was in very good shape today. Very little standing water and so, the fairways and greens were very playable. The greens are as fast as usual so if you enjoy this kind of challenge Bayforest is a good play. The pace of play was slow. My twosome got stuck behind a foursome of walkers who would not let us playthrough. A marshall should have been present to speed play or have the foursome let us move ahead. This was both surprising and disappointing for a course with such a good reputation. I will think twice before coming back for another round.

Greens and bunkers are good
Great place to play if you like putting on good quick greens that actually break and are in great shape. Playable bunkers. Many par 5 ‘s and mid to long approach shots. Love this course

Great value
Tee time 12:10. Teed of at 11:55. Finished at 3:25. No waits. Other than some tee boxes being over sanded, course was in great condition. Great Value!

The majority of the greens are soft and quick, but most are dead around the edges. For the most part the course is in good condition. Only got in 9 because of a nasty thunder storm.

Nice Course!
Greens, fairways & tee boxes were in great shape. Bunkers were sloppy, but we enjoyed skipping those anyway. Cart girl was visible. Carts were clean. Pace was very good. Cart path needed some attention. We had a good time on the course.

Best Value on East Side
Eagle Point in Barber's Hill is the only municipal course that is run better than Bay Forest. I play here regularly and sometimes the course setups leave you scratching your head wondering if the greens-keeper was fully awake and sober when he set up the course. The greens generally are in good condition with the occasional hiccup. The only real problem is a number of tee boxes need to be redone as you can't find even a relatively flat spot to tee of from.
