About
Amongst the chemical plants, refinery towers, and wood-lined waterways of La Porte lies the 18-hole Jay Riviere municipal known as Bay Forest. Riviere's design opened in 1988, featuring a tight front nine that opens up on the lake-dominated back side. Water is in play on 16 of 18 holes. Because of La Porte's proximity to the Gulf, the coastal winds make this a long course.
Despite its tight nature, the front nine offers a few nice birdie opportunities, including the short par 3 No. 6. This hole generally only requires a 9 iron to carry the bunker fronting the green.
On the back, the par 5 No. 10 is one of the most birdie-friendly holes on the course. It's followed by the signature No. 11-a great-looking dogleg right that bends around a pond to a well-bunkered green. The play with the approach on 11 is to leave it below the hole.
The par 5 No. 18 is a challenging finisher that requires good golf shots into the wind and the accuracy to avoid the water that sneaks into the fairway in the landing area from the right. The second shot must carry water and a bunker, and the recommended play on the approach is to keep it on the right side of the green.
Getting there : From Hwy. 45 south, take the 610 Loop north. When you come to Hwy. 225 head east and take the Pasadena exit. Turn right, find Hwy. 146 and go south (right). Next, get off at the Fairmont Pkwy. exit and turn left. When you get to South Broadway St., turn right and drive 1 mile to the course. The clubhouse is on the right side of the street.

A great place to play
We play here once a week, and really enjoy it. It definitely has some slow days, but overall everyone plays on pace.
The staff is friendly and helpful, and the course is always in great condition (as long as it doesn't rain LOL)
Overall, a great value for the money.

Great place to play
You won’t find a better value within 40 miles. I was highly impressed with the condition of the greens, fairways, and tee boxes. The course layout is fun with some challenging holes and some that seem more challenging than maybe they are. Giving a real sense of reward. It’s by no means a high end course or facility, but they far exceed expectations at their rates. This is my new go-to course within a reasonable drive. Highly recommend.

Even with the wet conditions from the rain the last 2 weeks, the course was in excellent condition. The greens are fast and in great shape as well as the tee boxes and fairways. . Bravo to the superintendent, grounds and clubhouse F&b/ pro shop employees. Cant wait to play here when it drys out.

Great course
The greens are in excellent shape and kept pretty fast. The fairways are good and challenging. Almost every hole has a water hazard on it. The price is very reasonable for the area.

Good value
I’ve played this course for many years and I have seen the course and staffing over recent years excel on keeping the course in exceptional condition,. The staff is friendly, willing to answer any question you may have and a real pleasure to deal with. There are many courses in the area that charge outrageous fees for a much less maintained course while Bay Forest gives you a much better course at a reasonable rate.

Chilly Day at the Bay
Despite all of the recent rains the course was in very good shape today. Very little standing water and so, the fairways and greens were very playable. The greens are as fast as usual so if you enjoy this kind of challenge Bayforest is a good play. The pace of play was slow. My twosome got stuck behind a foursome of walkers who would not let us playthrough. A marshall should have been present to speed play or have the foursome let us move ahead. This was both surprising and disappointing for a course with such a good reputation. I will think twice before coming back for another round.
