About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 72
Length 7180 yards
Slope 135
Rating 72.1

Spring Valley Golf Course is a public, 18-hole course that features a rolling, hilly terrain with stately Cottonwood trees that are over 75 years old sprinkled throughout. Designed by Ross Graves, the golf course took over three years to construct, which is understandable considering its elevation of 6400 feet and its hilly terrain. The course is 7,180 yards from its championship tees with a par of 72. Golfers will have to employ their short game for this course. Spring Valley Golf Course's signature hole is the 17th, which is a par-3 that requires a tee shot not only through trees but also over a creek that winds through the course. There is also plenty of wildlife, including rabbits, deer, and antelope, for those who enjoy animals.

Fun golf

What a nice course and a great day to play, sunny about 82 degrees and light winds. Conditions were superb, pin placements extremely challenging. Best of all, we were a foursome and did not wait to tee off all day, well actually, there was a delay on 17 as the group in front had great difficulty on this very nice golf hole.

I will come back to this course and bring with me anyone that likes to play golf on a very nice golf course

one man's opinion

Course staff friendly and responsive. Amenities are on par for most courses. Course condition is fair not great. Moderately challenging for an intermediate player. I will continue to play here as the course is priced correctly to it's value.

Good Course

Nice course. Fairways a little thin. Warmer weather and rain should fix that.

Mr A

Had a great day.... especially after tskinv a lesson from Justin... came to him with questions on short game. After s correction of swing pattern. I was able to reduce my strokes by 6 strokes. Best round I've ever had on the course. Thanks guys and lunch ( turkey wrap) was very good as well.

Plan to return for more lesson. Well worth the drive.

A great course that gets better every year.

Been playing several times a year here for over 15 years. It just gets better and better. Reasonably priced, good variety of challenges and probably most important, well maintained year in and year out.

Everything is very good except condition of the course. It is very dry and burned out in places Greens are not good but this is due to the lack of snow this past winter, not the staff. They are watering but it is going to take some time to start growing. Give it some time to green up. 60 days or more.

Protected by the Greens

It all comes down to the greens for this course. Many holes have little protection when it comes to hazards in your traditional layup areas or for that matter, around the greens. It's the greens themselves that are given the job of protecting against birdies. I didn't keep track of the number of raised, tiered, and intensely undulating greens, but I do know that I was putting out of my mind and only had 3 one-putts. Not to be outdone, I also had 2 three-putts. It's true, I came on a day, at the end of the summer, when the greenskeeper must have felt like he had run out of hole locations at the end of the season, but there were several times where unless you were directly under the hole, there was no way to keep the ball within a reasonable second putt because of the severe slopes. Oh, and on this particular day, the greens were running ten yards off the stent meter. So far, this would be enough to protect any course from low numbers, but there is one more observation about these greens. The front nine tends to play in a more open setting. The greens get plenty of wind and the sun hardens their hearts. After failing to stop the ball with a 56° from roughly 110 yards out, I learned to treat them with much more respect. But by the time I had adjusted, I reached the back nine, which plays in the hills and trees and tends to be much more moist. A under these conditions, a 6-iron from 180 yards out left crater that was nearly impossible to repair. Not only that but it backed up six feet.

So, what did I think of the course? I loved it! The rest of the course layout and setting is so delightful that I could see myself joyfully playing this course everyday as my home course. It's not too long, there's not too much water, and the water that is present is only a penalty if you really deserve to be penalized. There's only one blind shot that I can remember. The fairways are wide and well groomed. The first cut of rough is reasonable without being overly lush. Stay out of the prairie grass, as you are more likely to find a snake than your ball. There's only a few holes where a neighborhood can be seen (or possibly come into play).

I don't have an official USGA handicap, but my Golfshot App tells me it would be about a 7. On this day, I was playing well and shot a four over 76, with only hitting 64% of the fairways, but hitting 72% of the greens in regulation. I felt like I was putting for birdie all day, but with a 1.94 putts per hole, I had little chance of breaking par.

I would definitely recommend this course to anyone that wants to have a relaxing day from tee to green, but wants a good challenge once they're on the green.

Good Putting a must

This was our first visit to Spring Valley. It's about an hour drive and totally worth it. The pro shop was terrific! They gave us course guide and extra token for range balls. Met other golfers and they were helpful and friendly.

The course was straight forward. Spread out and plenty of signs to direct your way. Lots of trees! Some mild elevation changes but nothing severe.

The challenge was on the greens. The practice green was indicative of what we found on the course. Not a lot of flat surface. Reading break and speed was crucial because all the undulations.

We will definitely play here again.

Spring Valley

I played as a single and paired up with a local. We played the front nine in record time. The back nine took forever. There were two groups in front of us that really slowed the pace. Wish the marshal would of talked to them. The greens were in great shape.

This is where I learned how to play golf so it will always hold a special place for me. I love playing here during the week, weekends sometimes seem to draw a different crowd of golfers plus sometimes the marshals on weekends appear to be more of observers versus marshals.
