Getting Much Better
GCMLR is getting better as time goes by. Always has been a challenging design and course conditions are improving rapidly. Fairways have filled in nicely this season and ALL traps were recently filled with brand new sand. Greens need a bit of improvement; wish the superintendent would bring in the Texas Golf Association (TXGA) to consult on the greens. This course could be hosting key state amateur tournaments with some focused work on the greens. Keep up the good work on a solid course!!
Greens
Greens and fringe around greens are sub par for a resort course.
Greens
Greens are in pretty bad shape. No course should have "Resort" in their name with greens like these. Also, fringe around greens was too high. Needed to be mowed.
Very Enjoyable course.
Great course to play. Fairways are getting better over the years. Greens still need some work. Beautiful course overall, especially hole 15 which is the nicest.
Margaritaville
Was more impressed last time I played Margaritaville Resort Golf Course. The greens are the main issue. The poa grass has taken over some of the greens, making them very uneven. Some of the greens have spotty coverage. The fairways were, for the most part, in good shape. The layout is challenging with lots of big trees, water, and sand.
Greens and bunkers
The course is fun, but it is in very bad shape. Greens and bunkers were in terrible shape. I understand bunkers get washed out with all the rain we have had, but most were mud pits. That wasn’t done from a couple of storms. The greens had so many weeds/ grasses growing through them it was impossible to putt on. Where there weren’t weeds there was just nothing but sand. The tee boxes didn’t really seem like tees were moved often because there were a lot of divots in. Fairways seemed to be in decent condition but I didn’t spend much time on them!
Great Course in Very Good Condition
This is a challenging course, but it is also rewarding for good shots. It has water and sand traps that influence your shot decisions. A couple of greens had some spots, but the majority were in great shape for this time of the season. If you hit in the rough, take some mosquito repellant, it will come in handy. We teed off early and finished shortly after 10AM. It was getting crowded when we left. There are a few areas of cart path that need to be redone.
Good Layout, Horrendous Conditions
I played this course before it was bought out by the "Margaritaville" brand. Went back hoping that the course would be in better shape than in years past. Sadly, it was much much worse... Greens are beyond recovery, water filled most of the bunkers (water that had obviously been there for some time) and the fairways were not well maintained. This is another one of those courses that has such great potential. Tight fairways, great layout, and good green complexes. I really wish the resort would spend some time, effort, and money into fixing the course up. Would not recommend spending hard earned money here.
Attention Please
As in Tee box, fairways, bunkers, cart paths, and greens in need of some major attention. Is a fun layout and perfect for beginners but definitely is not resort quality golf. If you don’t care about scoring it is a bare minimum (as in bare or minimum grass) to play on.
First Time Margaritaville Course
Played late afternoon and course was not that busy. They were getting prepared to host a Texas UIL High School Golf Regional tournament. I've been to this resort several times through different ownership but never played course. The course is tight just like most reviewers say. Water can come into play. The front 9 greens were slower than back 9. Greens could use some improvement but I have played around the Houston area and can say this for other courses as well. I didn't use my driver at all. 2-Driving Iron or 5-Hybrid on most tee shots.
Great course, good value
Course is in great shape. Challenging but fair. Staff very friendly.
Nice little home course
We have been looking for a home course since moving from Cypress where there are a number of nice public courses. The layout is not to bad and the course is challenging for novices such as myself. I will be playing this course more often. Good value, especially during the twilight hours.
