Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
About
Ridgeview Ranch is a Jeff Brauer design that opened in 1997. It’s friendly to the average golfer because there are rarely forced carries of water or sand to reach the large greens, making short approaches good candidates for easy ups and downs.
The design rolls through hills and trees, incorporating two creeks that come into play. The fairways are average-sized and flat, although there are a few surprising elevation changes for this flat part of north Texas. The course rolls through a housing addition and some of the holes are very tight.
Nos. 7 and 11 stand out in particular. The 7th goes 161 yards over White Rock Creek to a sloping green. No. 11 is tough because is plays well over 400 yards uphill into the prevailing wind.
Other notes: Carts are mandatory on weekends before 2 p.m. The cemetery next to the No. 3 green has graves dating back to 1800 and a historical marker to commemorate the settlers commissioned by Stephen F. Austin.
Getting there : From Dallas, travel north on the Tollway and exit Spring Creek. Turn right and drive 5 miles to Independence. Turn left and drive north to Ridge View Dr., then take a right and the course is on the left.

Worst course in DFW
The greens have more sand traps on the GREENS!! Greens are horrible. Course is in bad shape. I live near it and embarrassed to tell anyone I live near it. Just close it down if you don’t plan on taking care of it. It’s so bad, when we finished we used the bathroom and the paper towel machine was out of order. Come on.
Friday morning and no practice balls available.
Besides no range balls available there was nothing to eat except candy bars and chips. The greens were dead in the most inconvenient areas where pin placements were made. Second cut was over 6 inches deep. Over watered fairways leaving a mess. Cary’s are old, barely enough power to climb some of the small hills. Overall, just not worth the $70 green fee.
Could do better
Over 100° heat index and no water on the coursr, unless I missed it. Some fairways are chewed up and a few greens need attention. Otherwise a nice place to play.
Fun layout, decent conditions
The course was a lot of fun, pace was great for later in the day. Greens had a few rough spots, but nothing out of the ordinary for Texas heat.
Needs help
I have always liked the layout of the course. Always known it will likely be a slow round but never terribly so. This time however, the course was in pretty tough shape. Broke 3 tees just trying to put them in the ground. Fairways we ok but did have a lot of bare spots that were sizable. Almost every green had massive dead spots requiring one to put through dirt. They did have a beverage cart making rounds but did not see a single water station on the course. And I would love to have a discussion with whomever decided black seats on the cart in Texas summer heat was a good decision.
Weekly golf outing
Booked an early tee time and played in 4 hours, conditions were pretty good, a few wet spots and some green fungus but very good overall.
Great course design, but zero amenities
It’s a tale of two courses, sadly. The 18 holes themselves were beautiful designed, dynamic and difficult. The course itself was enjoyable. Everything else was subpar or missing altogether. There were no water coolers to be found anywhere. There was no beverage service on the course at all. The clubhouse has no cooking abilities and only offered hot dogs and cold sandwiches.
It we go back, we’ll bring our own cooler with lots of water and beverages.
Simple fixes ruin experience
As many previous reviews have stated, the greens are spotty and slow. I understand this is a process that is taking some time and hopefully the greenskeepers can fix them. What surprised me about the condition of the course was the large amount of fallen tree debris around the course. Its been like 3 weeks since that storm. The town dump for this is literally across the street.
I took fault with a couple basic golf course things that can easily be fixed and make a big impact on my experience. First, I understand hitting off mats on the range, but carpet on concrete is not a mat. Spend some money and get that fixed. The second fault was a huge one. The only place to get water/drinks is at the turn. There are no water coolers or drink cart. The course was busy enough where they asked us to join up carts at the turn because they ran out (I have no problem joining up) yet they cant pay someone to drive around and sell drinks all day? Also, how do you not have water coolers on the course in Texas? This is a huge fail.
Just Ok
Fairways are in good shape. Sand traps were filled and in good condition. Some of the greens have areas that are burned out and sandy. Golf carts suck. Parking brakes on both carts would not work. Our cart could barley get up some of the hills.
Great layout, bad greens
Overall, I thought the fairways were in decent shape. Tee boxes were okay. Green were spottu with several having damage or growth issues. A bit pricey for the conditions. The layout was pretty good, could have been awesome.
Course in need of improvement
I have always loved the layout of this course and have played it for years, but they have had some serious problems with their upkeep over the past year. They've nearly lost most of their greens and the course lacks some basics such as ball washers, water stations, marshals, and the carts do not have GPS or operational USB ports. Under-staffed and over-priced. For the money, there are better courses to play.
I look forward to the time that they get this course back in shape.
Greens need work
Other than the greens, the course was in good shape. It was cart path only given recent storms with lots of downed trees and some standing water.
The greens however are not very good. You can putt on them but the ball bounces as much as it rolls on many of the holes
Could be better
The conditions could be better. Greens have been rough for a while now.
