About

Holes 18
Type Resort/Private
Par 72
Length 6993 yards
Slope 128
Rating 73.5

Ralph Plummer worked with Arnold Palmer on the original Tanglewood design back around 1970, and Ken Dye and Baxter Spann came along for an upgrade in 1988. This challenging golf course overlooking Lake Texoma is difficult because of the water and wind. Be ready when you arrive, because the first two holes can ruin your day. Some say that no. 1 is the hardest on the golf course, playing 414 yards into a dogleg that's protected by a fairway bunker. No. 2 is longer at 444 yards -- you'll need a monster tee shot to set up a reasonable approach into the bunkered green. This hole has a slight dogleg to the left as well. On the back nine at Tanglewood, no. 14 goes 230 yards with water on the right, and no. 18 is a reachable par 5 with water in play on the first two shots.

Nice fun course, great value.

Course was wide open (it makes sense since it was 102 when I started). Considering the drought we are in, the course was in good shape and the greens were in excellent shape. A wide open course for the most part. A few bunkers needed some work. Overall a good resort course that's been around almost 50 years. Even with the 60 min drive it was well worth it.

Course was in great shape and greens were pristine

Greens rolled smoothly and layout required for strategy and positioning from tee. Texas heat was stifling, but course had cool breeze from Lake Texoma to combat the heat.

Scenic course but nothing special

Let me start with the good things about this course. The pace of play was decent. There are a lot of members out there but they seem to play very quickly. The scenery is nice on 9 and 18. Most of the tee boxes were nice to hit off of, except a few that were really uneven. And I thought the greens were pretty decent, sort of fast and rolled true, but did not hold an approach shot very well. Now the bad: Playing in the summer time is brutal on this course, tucked away in a valley makes it feel like your in an oven. Bring plenty of bug spray, there are biting flies and other nasty critters out there. We quite a few scorpions as well. Also bring ice towels if you are playing in the summer time. I definitely don't think this is worth the $70 weekend rate, but if you can get a deal on Golfnow, I would go just so you can experience a back woods country course.

This course was in horrible shape.

I wanted to play a new course, so after looking at golfnow I decided to drive up to Tanglewood. I was very disappointed in this course. The greens were a new hybrid grass and felt similar to old school astroturf. Any shot into the green bounced even chip shots bounced 2-3 foot high. The whole course needs watering. I do not think they have mowed in weeks. The layout was plain. I would not recommend this course to anyone.

Kind Of Bland North TX Course

There might be 2 memorable holes on this course - #18 is a par 5 dogleg right uphill around a pond and #11 brings water into play on the left off the tee.
Most of the course is flat and predictable - not very interesting.
I found the greens to be in really good shape - two days after a big rain.
Staff was nice.
I pretty much had the course to myself with a 1:30 tee time - really easy to get around in just a little over 2 1/2 hours.

I would like to see more ball washing stations, and yardage markers. But overall a nice place

Nice Greens, a few memorable holes

I was expecting more hilly terrain and more views of Lake Texoma...instead, this is a relatively flat but tree-lined course with 4-5 notable exceptions.....those include #18, which is a memorable hole, sweeping around a lake and boasting great views all around.
