Horrendous fairways and greens

Pace of play was rough playing just over 5 hours. Marshall was driving around but not doing anything to support pace of play. Hitting fairways should set you up for a nice shot to the green but the fairways were so hard, it was like hitting off the cart path. Speaking of shots into the green… there were several holes that you couldn’t tell the difference between the green or the bunker next to it. There was more sand on the green than grass. No way possible to read a putt or just even get an accurate putt as the ball was bouncing so much it looked like it was off roading. Overall terrible course conditions and over booked. Would not recommend.

Horrible Course Maintenance

This course is not worth the drive from Houston. Greens were basically sand traps and some looked like the grounds crew did donuts on them. Pace of play was also horrendous on our second nine to the point where we skipped holes with no Marshall to be found.

Country club???!! Nah....

Booked this tee time because it's a "country club" and allows public play on Mondays.

Expectations were somewhat high since I've played at country clubs in southwest Houston and they all were very top notice conditions.

The club house looks like an old plantation mansion and outward appearances look nice, maybe the best part of the club. Staff was courteous. Was 45 mins early, so asked if I could pair up with any open times and a curt "no", we are booked. The range was closed. Coming early to warm up was left disappointed. Not sure if they close the range on public Mondays.

I started practice putting and the practice green had many dead, dry spots. I noticed nobody was heading to the tee. looked for the starter. There was no starter. Headed to the tee box and found a single teeing off. I asked if I could join and got out on my own... early!!!

Every fairway was covered with dirt from earthworms or whatever burrowing insects pushing soil up from the ground. Evidently, they don't mow the grass for the Monday public players. Not sure it was mowed the day before either.

The greens were inconsistent. Played the Pecan and Plantation rotation. Some greens were totally bare and unplayable. Some greens had large areas of sand covering dead spots. Some were quite okay, but consistently bumpy. They haven't been rolled much because balls didn't roll true with movement left to right and back to left like in s pattern over the course of just a few feet.

There were no course marshalls and play was exceptionally slow. A group of 4 college age boys played ahead and was two holes behind the group ahead of them. Don't blame the course for that, but marshalls would help keep them moving. They wouldn't let our twosome through.

Overall, not an experience that I would care to replicate. Probably won't come back. If the intent of public mondays was to introduce the course to new prospective members, they failed miserably. Maybe Tuesday thru Sunday, there is a better presentation for the country club members. But shouldn't you be showcasing your course for the public.

At $45 with cart, its one of the cheapest bargains in Houston. But ultimately, you really get what you pay for. It's country club by name only. Seems to be having a hard time maintaining its playing conditions.

Good course but horrid greens

Course was in good shape and quality except the greens. nearly every green on the back nine and a couple on front had large patches of dead grass and sand covering dead grass which affect play. Would pay current price for course if greens are in much better condition.

Once again. But more…

Hey - if you’re a single like i am usually (down here working under 2 yeae contract) ….then fine. - get out and swing em for 70bucks. But- they are asking for a review. New to houston sugar land area. I am used to more organic soil under the turf. Vancouver and New Jersey. If Houston public course are all “pick” courses where you break your wrist if you try to take a divot - then so be it. Gotta learn to play it - or leave it. If your club angle is 2-3degrees off at impact then you will go 15-20 yards right of target if you slightly toe the “concete” or 15 yards left if you hozel the heel a bit. They need a couple years of intensive aeration and heavy organic top dressing. Or it will be year after year of very little moisture control. But again - go out and swing em. Its fine. The greens. Whatever. I cant putt anyways Vancouver jersey or djibouti.

PG

I like Pecan Grove. The Club has 3 Nines that are well designed, The Staff is very nice, The only issue I have is the Greens are in very poor condition. I realize it is March and that may play into it but I played Blackhorse last week and the Greens are in great condition.

Unfortunately over the past several years, the poor condition of the greens has been a recurring issue.

Good course, fair price

I played on a drizzly Friday afternoon and was the only one on the course. The course was overall in good condition. The greens and tee boxes could use a little work. If I can get another fair price, I’ll definitely be back.

Pecan 9 and plantation 9

Mens tournament was finishing around noon. Think it was a senior tournament because the blue tee markers were way pushed up. I backed off into the blue boxes even though the markers were up on seniors. Fairways real good. Had decent rain during the week. So softened up. Softer than the brickyard at el dorado quail valley the week before. Its a very playable par 4 course. And the par 5s were nice. But the par 3’s are really good especially if you step them back a bit and challenge yourself. Half the greens were damaged but i was playing alone. The course was empty at 12noon. No idea why. I liked el dorado layout a good bit more. But this was a solid solo outing for a 13hcp new to sugar land area. I really thought houston would have more golf to offer than new jersey or vancouver bc. But guess the public course scene is different than private. Good for the money if you play a lot of walk-on solo. But the quality for paying full fare in houston public domaine is on the “weak side” …….so far. March 2023

Course has really gone down hill since my family left it in 2019. No drinking water on the course. Bathrooms were locked. No tees or pencil in the cart. Pace of play was lousy. Had to wait several minutes at every tee box for the group ahead to finish waiting on the group ahead of them and so on.
