Best thing about this round was the food in the club house
Playing over each other on holes, slow play, poor fairways and just a boring course all in all, wouldn’t go back even if it was free for the Kirby course
9 hole Kirby Course
Only played the 9 hole Kirby course as i was with an inexperienced golfer, on arrival were made to feel very welcome in the Pro shop , stocked up on snacks and drinks and showed the way to the first tee.
This time of year course is very dry but fairways are kept very well and greens although very quick were in very good condition.
Layout of short course a tad confusing first time around as it intertwines with the 18 hole course but once worked out the first time round it was all good.
Enjoyable experience overall and next time will try the 18 hole course.
Played the small 9 hole course with my son , great course to sharpen up your short game . We both enjoyed it and will return to play the big course as soon as we can
Good alternative to main course
This course is 2 laps of 9 holes, the 1/10 and 8/17 are par 4s in the 200s. Other mostly 125y or 175y. Takes just over hour for each lap, providing you don’t have kids playing in front taking double the time. Greens are small and being reseeded when played. Bunkers well kept.
Start is in middle of course and 1st is a straight hit down a practice field to a green at the other end. 2nd is 125 yards over a raised public footpath with green directly behind. 3/4/5 involve tee shots over a drainage ditch. Talkie care crossing the main 3rd hole then 6 a narrow 175y with bunker guarded small green. 7 another ditch / bunker 120 yard combo, 8 a straight 280yard par 4 with a sloping green and 9 gives a 125y bunt towards the clubhouse / pro shop. Teaches you to hit high irons straight and short game around the green. When the wind is up, the gorse is high or you are short on time, great alternative.
Frinton is odd as most clubs prefer you to book phoning up and will match online price but way cheaper deals are online and I’ve saved £10 booking up online whilst standing in the pro shop.
Just teach your kids to let faster players go through.
Frinton Kirby course
Found this excellent quality only negative is no score card and if we hadn’t been following a member we would have probably got lost but thoroughly enjoyed
Odd Layout & Very Short
We got lost! Ended up walking from the 2nd on the Kirby course to the 15th on the 18 hole course (think it’s the Havers). Baffles me why there are no signs on this course and very few tees have numbers/yardage markers.
The course was in good condition and the 18 hole course looked good so I will be giving that a go soon. The staff were great especially during all the COVID-19 madness.
In summary I’d play the 18 hole course here unless you’re looking for a quick pitch and putt.
Lovely and short
Good to hone in your short game but takes some navigating due to bad signage around the course.
Fantastic Frinton
Fairways very undulating, excellent greens, fantastic location
