Unfortunately, hard times have fallen on golf in Simonton, as their relatively new 18-hole golf course has been foreclosed upon by the mortgage company.
After opening in the early 1990s, Simonton's first course re-opened in 1992 after being washed away by massive flooding. The greens were goners, and it took some time to get the course back in shape. However, now the 5,697-yard layout along the Brazos River is better from the experience. It's a shame that this one appears to be out of the picture for a while-the fairways were in good condition and sculpted by moguls, and the river views made it a pleasing day at the course.
The feature hole was, and might someday still be, the 211-yard par 3 No. 8. Keep an eye on this one, as someone will surely fulfill their dream of owning a golf course and bring this one back to life.
Getting there : From I-10 east, take FM 1489 and turn right. Travel to FM 1093 (Horseshoe Rd.) and turn right, and the entrance is on the right side of the road.
