About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Nice layout, but neglected……
Tried this place today. Staff was friendly and the course layout was quite good but conditions were poor. Greens were atrocious and fairways needed water!!! Potential is there, but…..

Reservation
Don't use this course for GolfNow. They do not honor the reservation time or the price you reserved it for. It was peculiar that there were a bunch of tee times available considering all the other courses around me were booked. Turns out, there were available tee times because they weren't recording GolfNow reservations. Save the reservation fee and just call and/or show up.

Green issues
I fully understand that the course is in the process of coming out of "hibernation" but the greens were more like a pinball machine than a putting green. There were clumps of grass spouting out which caused the ball to hop, change direction, etc. The back nine was a little better but ball still hopped like a bunny!

Poor
I cut my teeth on ththis course, probably played 1000 rounds here. I have never seen it in worse condition from tee to green. Go somewhere else

Blue on the Bayou
Front fairways in very rough shape.
Dried mud everywhere from water levels flooding course and killing grass.
Back 9 is what you would expect from a inexpensive public course.
The cantina was not open, cannot comment on coffee or snacks.

HORRIBLE
THIS COURSE HOLDS WATER AND ITS NOT IDEAL TO DEAL WITH. WATER ON MOST HOLES, THE CART PATH NEEDS REPAIRED IN A LOT OF PLACES. NONE OF THE CARTS THAT WERE AVAILABLE HAD SHIELDS ON THEM. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO BLOCK SOME OF THE COLD WIND WHILE DRIVING. SOME AREAS APPEAR THEY MAY HAVE A HOG ISSUE. THE SNACKBAR WAS CLOSED.
