About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Horrific greens and fairways
The fairways on some holes are unplayable unless you like playing on dirt and mud. The greens were made of sand,The vending lady wasn’t there all day there was no way to buy any drinks or food. The good thing was the ball cleaners that’s it.
Finally out
Course was in pretty good shape. We have had plenty of rain lately, but course was dry and able to drive on. There are plenty of spots that have no grass probably due to low area and tide.

Decent but not great.
Was wet. Fairways were beat up. Pace of play was poor, ranger was out but never moved the multiple ball hitting slower than molasses, poor playing twosome in front of us. I joined a threesome at 15.

Smooth sailing
Got in early . Staff took us in and sent us out at our leisure. Greens exceptionally well kept. True rollin.
Fairways were dry and cart were allowed on course. 3 hour round 3 players.

Some fairways good , some bad. Greens were great
Some of the fairways , that are next to the water from the bayou, had spots from high tide coming in. Greens were actually very good.

I liked it!
I gave it a 4 star because it could use some work on the fairways. I think the salt water around the course makes it hard for them to maintain it but it does get kind of bare in places. The greens were fair and the layout was good. I would definitely go back. It’s worth the price for sure!

The only reason I didn’t give all excellent is the condition of some of the fairways as they have no grass due to high tide situations. The greens roll very true and with some speed to them.

Slow & Squishy
Course obviously has a drainage problem as we had to endure "cartpath only" throughout the entire 18 holes. And even then we had to be careful where we stepped as mindfields of squishy ground would block the pathway to our ball. All of this, along with strong winds, led to pace of play of over 5 hours.
One plus were the greens - most were in excellent shape except 18 which had numerous fungal patches near the fringes.
The reason I'm recommending this to friends is the GolfNow price and the hope that one day the course will dry out enough to encourage normal play and cart usage.

Sloooow
The reason for the bad rating is that the pace of play was very bad even for a Friday. The starter could of made a huge difference in the situation by grouping up twosomes to make foursomes. Having twosomes mixed with foursomes and add in a threesome or two for good luck, and you will have multiple groups waiting on the same tee box on almost all the holes. The fairways were really bad in some places but that’s Bayou! I like the greens and the majority of the fairways that don’t get nailed every high tide!

Fairways suck
Greens are pretty good , run about 11 or 12. The fairways on many holes are grassless in every place that the tide has covered them with brine water especially 1, 3, 6.
