About
Joe Finger laid the Bayou out in the 1970s. The links-style course he carved out of the 200 acres along Moses Bayou has plenty of water and elevated tees and greens. The Galveston Bay winds affect this open course, so the 6,665-yard, par 72 plays significantly longer. Every par 5 is over 500 yards, and four of the par 4s are over 400 yards.
On the front, the long par 4 No. 6 is tough because the approach must carry the bayou to a tiny green. And No. 10 involves a lake off the tee and on the approach.
The back is what really tears into the soul of a golfer, though, presenting a 580-yard double dogleg on No. 15 followed just a short while later by the ridiculous 475-yard par 4 17th. This hole is lined on the left by old Moses, and water hazards creep into the fairway. The inevitably long approach goes into an elevated green guarded by water.
Getting there : From Hwy. 146 south, turn right on Loop 197, and head over to Ted Dudley Dr. Turn right, and the course is on the right side of the street.

Nice course layout
Nice course but the rain damaged some of the fairways. Really nice course when it’s dry.
The first few holes had very narrow fairways because of water poodles. There is need to improve drainage and several areas of fairways need to be regrassed. Sand in bunkers need to be replaced..Hole 9 was the most terrible. The back nine holes were better. The greens were well maintained. The restrooms on the course were awful.

Nice Day
Course was in good shape for the time of year. Some fairways are bare from the tides. Not much you can do about that if you want to play Bayou! I play there often and just expect it. Some holes (like hole 6) the area across the water is literally unplayable. Something needs to be done on that hole. Number 1 and 3 have serious tidal issues and the fairways need to be raised.

Cart path & fairways
The Course needs some major upgrades. The cart paths were in terrible condition actually tearing up the golf carts and the fairways are almost bare. Really needs attention.

fastest round ever
played in less than 3 hours by myself. Front nine fairways a mess on holes by the water. Flooded too many times. Front nine very challenging by the water, especially with the prevailing wind. Greens in good shape. Rebuilt in last couple years I believe. Easy going staff. Back nine very nice. Sand traps recently washed out apparently. Play them like ground under repair.
They have a new practice green by the back nine that is the largest I have ever seen. Might be part of the separate short course practice area, which I think you pay extra for?.

Course was challenging yet fair. Front nine fairways need some work but the greens were top top!

Challenging course but lots of fun! Fairways on from 9 a bit rough but the greens were running excellent! Will definitely be back when I visit again!

Course is in pretty good shape. Many of the fairways have suffered from tied water & the freeze earlier this year.

You get what you pay for
Nothing special about this course. Front 9 is atrocious with weather damage. Standing water, mud, just not great at all. Back 9 is like night and day, it’s a lot better and what you would expect a course to look like. Non-existant marshal who only patrols the parking lot and holes 9-10 in front of the clubhouse. Mixed messaging regarding carts on/off path. If you’re in the Texas City area and budget conscious, then this is your place for a nice, easy play.

The greens were absolutely fantastic. There are some fairways that are dead and all dirt but did not affect too much play. That is pretty normal it seems for this course.

Bayou
Very nice course for the money. Front nine greens still recovering from aeration but rolled pretty well. Back nine greens rolled real nice. Plenty of area for practice. Would recommend to anyone.

Aerated greens
The greens had been aerated recently but did not roll that bad. Just one of those necessary evils that need to be done!

The front nine is literally unplayable. Greens and fairways are in bad shape.. It is great lay out and it’s fun playing by the coast but it is in poor shape. The back nine is in great shape. It’s like 2 different courses.
