Webb Hill Country Club
About
Funeral home man and golf fan Bobby Owens led the development of Webb Hill CC in 1969, and the Leon Howard-designed 18-hole course has served Wolfe City ever since. This course is heavily wooded, with narrow, undulating fairways and a good combination of interesting tee shots. Howard’s design involves a few blind tee shots that play uphill, as well as a few from elevated tees that offer good views of the holes ahead. Water comes into play on half the holes, and the large greens are of medium speed.
No. 8 is the signature, playing 590 yards and requiring two tough shots down a swerving fairway lined by a lake. The approach is nasty because of the skinny green that is covered by trees.
Getting there : From I-30 east towards Greenville, take Hwy. 34 north to FM 2358. Turn left and the course is just down the road on the right side.

Fast Pace, Slow Greens
The greens needed mowing and were very slow. All grasses were fairly thick and green giving true lies and rolls. We had the course to ourselves to enjoy the challenging layout and solitude.
Newbie
Enjoyed the challenge this course offered for my abilities. Well laid out. I'll be back.
Tough course with horrible greens
This was my first time to play this course and I was extremely disappointed in the course conditions. All of the greens were diseased or they didn’t have hardly any grass on them. There was lots of hard pan on the fairways, flood or soggy areas in low lying areas and the maintenance was spotty. The layout was very challenging with lots of blind tee shots and this course would be a lot funner if it had some more TLC.
Weather beaten
The rain and winter has impacted the course. The greens had little grass and did not roll true. Hopefully as it gets warmer and with some TLC the course will be in better shape. For the GolfNow price and pace of play and the opportunity to get away from the city we will continue to play it. All tee shots except for hole #1 and par 3s are blind shots.
Country Pleasure
I decided to try this course on the recommendation of a former club member that had recently moved to our community. It is a bit of a drive to get to but worth the effort. The club house is very nice and though the bar and restaurant were closed the day Ii played for an private party they did appear well stocked and comfortable. The course conditions were a little ragged due to the winter weather but playable. The greens rolled well. The course has a few blind tee shots and the rolling terrain provides a fair amount of up and down slope. Each tee has a hole map posted next to it so it is possible to see the various hazards that exist. Water comes into play on several holes and there is a mix of open and tree lined fairways. Pace of play was uninhibited. It was a cold windy day and I only saw one other golfer on the course. Better weather I'm sure will bring more players. The staff, at all levels. was friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back and give the course another try. A side note, the pro there is an older gentleman who got his start in the golf business working for Harvey Penick at the Austin Country Club back in the late forties and early fifties.
Very nice rural course
The fairways and tee boxes were wet due to a recent rain. This is a course that we will continue to play on a regular basis.
Nice rural course
We drive 50 miles to play the course. My gf and I get to play it at a non rushed pace it has a very nice layout and very challenging. All tee shots except par 3s are blind shots. The greens had been prepared for winter so some didn’t roll true. Lots of leaves so finding balls was a challenge. We will continue to play it. My gf is learning the game. And it’s a great place to go and not feel rushed.
Webb Hill
The course is a good course this time of year there were a lot of leaves from the trees lost a couple balls in the leaves. The course was in good shape friendly staff and greens were in good shape.
Decided to take a one hour drive
I had read some reviews on this country course and decided to take the one hour drive to Wolfe City to play it. My wife and stepson joined me for the trip.
We got a golfnow deal to play for basically $14 per person. I can honestly say that made it much easier to enjoy regardless of the other parts of this review. This is a country course - 18 flagsticks stuck in shorter mowed areas. Some cups were perched on 8 degree slopes making putting impossible. Some holes had grass, some not so much. Many holes bent at weird angles with teeboxes set a different direction. Just an odd course. That being said, it pretty much met my expectations.
Staff was very friendly and inviting. The owner introduced himself several times and even showed us books and pictures of himself with Ben Crenshaw, Harvey Penick, and other UT golf greats.
Bottom line: Glad we went here once. Might not be worth a 1-2 hour drive from the Metroplex, but for anyone on east side of Dallas or far NE texas, it is an option.
This course is very challenging.
Challenging golf course with a lot of blind shots . Fairways were in great shape as well as the greens . Enjoyable day at a great place to play .
One of our favorites
My Gf and I play this course regularly. We drive 50 plus miles to play it every 2 weeks. It’s worth the drive. It will challenge your game. Except for par 3s all tee shots are blind shots. Take the trip. Go play a round.
Worth the drive
We drive 50 plus miles to play this course. At the Golfnow rate we will continue to make the drive from the Dallas area. This was my 4th time playing it. The last time I played it I thought the fairways needed to be mowed. This time the fairways were mowed and the greens were in fantastic shape. Except for par 3s you will hit blind tee shots. Course layout, staff friendliness, price. It's worth getting away from the city to play in the country.
Great course-Great value
First time playing this excellent course. Located between Greenville Tx. and Wolfe
City Tx.
Really enjoyed the layout, a really pretty course. Out in the country, very pleasant.
Like the man in the clubhouse said, not a cookie cutter course. Challenging but
fair. A blind tee shot on almost every hole, but the par 3s. I found the par 3s the most
difficult.
Staff was very friendly.
Whoa! This course is a hidden gem!
First time playing this course and I was blown away. Course was in excellent condition and Mel the head golf pro is about as friendly as it gets. Course has an incredibly fun but challenging layout. Lots of trees and hills, but perfect for changing up the scenery. In fact I liked this course so much I went back the next day and played it again! I will be back here many times. Can't wait until next time!
A rural gem
This was my 3rd time playing the course. Blind tee shots except for the par 3s. I enjoy playing this course and drive from Dallas to play it. The fairways need to be mowed. If not eventually people from a distance won't make the drive. Very friendly staff.
Good course in rural area
I first played this course during an alumni golf tournament- Texas A&M Commerce. I live in the Dallas area. Me and some friends drove from Dallas to play a round. The staff was very welcoming. The course was not crowded. It has a very nice rate. At the Golfnow rate, it is worth the drive. Although I will definitely play the course again, the fairways need to be mowed and the greens are slow. Lots of slope on the greens. It is a very good course outside the greater Dallas metro area. It's worth the drive to play. Except for the par 3s, you will hit blind shots off the tee. Get the fairways mowed and a little TLC on the greens and this is a rural gem.
Buy some mowers
I have played this course many times over the years and have never been disappointed like I was this time. The course looked more like a cow pasture the fairways and tee boxes had not been mowed in several days. The greens were slow but rolled true. This used to be a pretty good trac and used to be in much better condition.
