Canyon West Golf and Sports Club

About
The scenic ranchlands west of Fort Worth are full of rugged canyons, native wildflowers, and impressive elevation changes, all of which are incorporated into Canyon West’s design. Located atop Parker County’s highest summit, this 1997 18-holer incorporates all of those North Texas Hill Country features and more into its design. Waterfalls, miles of streams, exposed rocks, prairie grasses, wildflowers, and loads of oak, pecan, elm, and mesquite trees highlight the landscape.
Elevated tees offer views of the countryside. In addition to the scenery, golfers are welcomed by generous fairways that make this a fairly user-friendly course, especially given its reasonable yardage of 6,653 from the tips and the fact that water comes into play on only about half of the holes.
Other notes: During the week, the course offers seniors a two-for-one green fee. Walking is not allowed.
Getting there : From Ft. Worth, go west on I-20 and take exit 403. Cross left over the freeway and then make a quick right onto the service road. The entrance is 2.5 miles down the road.

Great Layout
Love the course. The layout is great and very fair and you can score well. Greens were great and everyone was super friendly. I just thought the fairways were bad. It’s hard to judge fairways in the winter when they’re dormant and it definitely wouldn’t stop me from recommending the course or playing it again.
Pretty fun course! Will play again in the Spring.
Played Canyon West for the first time today with my Pop. I think the "hot deal" was about $40/person, which isn't bad in the DFW area.
Course was in fair shape considering it's January. A few spots on the course hadn't drained from the recent rain so there was some ugly standing water "hazards" in two of the fairways. Other than that though, course is well maintained. Greens were rolling true and relatively fast.
Back 9 layout is more fun than the front in my opinion. Most of the holes on the front are relatively straightforward. A few more doglegs and hidden tee/approach shots on the back that force you to shape your shots a bit more. A few of the Par 3's are cool signature type holes, 12 is a semi-island Par 3 and 8 is another cool Par 3 with a big time elevated tee. Par 5's are all pretty short/reachable for good players.
Staff was friendly, pace of play was great, location is a bit out of the way unless you live in the Weatherford area.
All in all, I look forward to playing again in a few months and would recommend!
Hidden Gem
I’ve played this course 3 times in the last 2 weeks and I’m wondering why I haven’t before now. I almost wanted to give it a bad review just so it won’t get crowded. The greens are fantastic for it being winter. Of course the fairways are dormant but still very well kept. I definitely look forward to seeing it in the spring. All the staff I have encountered have been very friendly. Definitely a new favorite course for me.
Nit bad considering the weather
I do like this course. It's fun to play and I enjoy the layout. Weather has been rough, dry and now coming into cold winter so the grass is dying off. Compared to other courses around its in better shape than a lot of what I've been playing. Fairways are hard and have some dead spots, and need repair areas, but it's still a good place to go play.
There's a few hile designs that I'd prefer were better, like 18 is a blind but straight tee shot. The problem is there's a landing area and then penalty area that come out from the right. From the tee you can't evaluate the tee shot at all and it's more of a prayer. Considering the length of this hole, the tree line is unnecessary difficulty and I'd like to see it cut down and expose the landing area view just a little.
I wish it was a few bucks cheaper, but given that the conditions are better than some of the nearby other courses I still pay to play it.
The course is very interesting
The course was in very good condition and the greens were fast.
Nice views
Guy at counter rude . Only way we play this course is a discount. Not worth regular price.
We played today after about a 6 inch rain. I was impressed with how well the course drained. Additionally, the greens were in great condition, especially considering the drought we’ve experienced most of the summer. I hadn’t played CW recently, but will be back soon.
Great atmosphere
The course was in good shape. Greens well maintained. Staff couldn’t be nice. My son and I played and finished 30 minutes ahead of pace. Scenery was great. Can’t believe it’s fall already. Would play here again.
eeds Improvement
Teeboes and greens were excellant. The fairways have a lot of bare areas and the sand traps are not functional as such. Low quality sand that is compacted and only faintly resembles a trap
