Hot Springs
Was in town visiting the National Park and wanted to get a winter round of golf in. All of the main resort courses in the area are closed for season, so Diamondhead had the best value and reviews for what was open. Definitely more park district/municipal than country club.
Always unfair to judge a course by its conditions in December, but lot of red flags. Greens are thick and slow, ground is too solid in both fairways and rough, and some of the hills are just outright stupid design. Definitely need a range finder with slope, standard 19Birdies doesn’t cut it here. Probably 6 holes with at least 100 yards of either up or down slope. The flag on Hole 8 was literally 20 feet tall and I still couldn’t see it from my approach. It’s a fun test of golf but kind of silly. Do give the designers credit for making good use of the land.
On the positive side, views are fantastic, in a very lovely neighborhood and mountain range of Hot Springs, and there are some fun signature holes that are challenging but fair. Pace of play was great and staff and other players were very kind. Would be worth a second chance in peak season, but there are probably better options.
A True Gem
First time playing this course and I had a blast. The front nine was a little tight. Well placed tee shots were rewarded with good looks at the flag. It opened up a bit on the back so one can be more free swinging without punishment from being slightly off line.
One item of note- you will be flag hunting in every hole because Diamonhead has the smallest greens I have played in quite some time. They are TINy!! And in good shape.
Fun But Challenging
We had a great round at Diamondhead! Course conditions were excellent, yet challenging. Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens were all in great condition and provided more than sufficient challenge for us. The downhill and uphill layout of the course kept each hole interesting, especially for our first time. Highly recommended ~ but only if you can straight off the tee.
Greens need work
This would be a decent course with a good layout, but the greens were terrible...full of weeds, bumpy and sandy. Not worth what they charge as long as the greens are in that condition.
Nice Peaceful Welcoming Course
We were visiting Arkansas in our RV and decided to come and play here a few years back. We did it the same this year when we arrived in Arkansas. This is a very nice course. The pace is great and you never feel rushed. The course is well maintained, and we love the hills.
Great time playing
Only the front 9 was open. Played it twice.
Friendly staff and players.
Do they ever water? Or do maintenance on the fairways and greens?
Fairways are mainly weeds and dirt. Thank goodness that I got a great golf now deal. Still a waste of time. Back nine closed. Played front nine. Had to wait thirty minutes to play it again. Greens are weedy and hard as concrete. I usually play other courses in Hot Springs. Ive tried this one several times and get more disappointed every time. Its a tough course to start with. Extremely narrow, tree lined fairways. Could be an Arkansas gem. Just needs ton of money, maintenance and time poured into fairways and greens. Hole # 2 could be on a postcard if it was maintained properly. Beautiful setting.
Overall a very interesting course with a few short par 4's. Greens, however, left a bit to be desired. Super slow to the cup. May have been due to the amount of precipitation on the course before our visit that could have prohibited greenskeepers from their efforts. We were not cart path only, but did not see any maintenance crews. It was HOT, HOT, HOT the day we played. No amenities available as the restaurant/clubhouse was closed. Thank goodness we brought beverages, especially H2O!! Given the chance, we'd definitely play again!
Decent but needs work
Area received good rain recently so we had some soggy conditions. Course of play was good. My largest complaint would be the greens. They are extremely bumpy and are impossible to get fair puts on. In my opinion, greens need work and definitely need rolled.
Fun Courses
First time playing Diamond Head. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Very fun layout. Would recommend playing this if you are in Hot Springs.
Great course and great staff
Would recommend for sure and will be going back. Great course! Only downside is the bar menu was extremely limited as far as food item go.
Thank you.
Great for the money
We were a group of 4 novice and beginners playing so we were happy with the price and not being rushed. We had a lot of fun.
Excellent Experience On and Off the Course – Highly Recommend
I’ve played at this course several times and have consistently had a great experience. The staff is always welcoming and attentive, and the cost of play is very reasonable. The food and service at the 19th Hole are also excellent. I would gladly recommend this course to others and look forward to returning again soon.
Terrible
The greens are covered in weeds.. every putt is like Plinko.. they allowed several groups of 7-10 golfers.. the driving range is garbage.. you can't hit anything over 250 yards. The layout is terrible. Save yourself frustration and money.. play somewhere else. Staff was nice.
