Carne Golf Links - Wild Atlantic Dunes Course

Truly amazing place. The dunes are enormous and the whole place is really rugged.

It seemed like a had the course to myself, I would recommend anyone travelling to Ireland to experience Carne.

The tee blocks lacked grass coverage on a lot of holes but you have a tee so who cares.

I didn't get to play the new Kilmore nine at Carne, but boy do I want to some day. The day I visited Carne, I was booked onto the Hackett course, the original 18 holes designed by Eddie Hackett in 1995. I toured the loop with a cart to take photographs. The new Kilmore nine, opened in 2013, was designed by Ally McIntosh, a Dublin-based designer who had an assist from Jim Engh, the America architect who routed a new nine in the mid-2000s that was never built by the club. McIntosh used some of Engh's original lines of play through the massive sand dunes that populate the Hackett back nine. It's a thrill ride much like the back nine at Enniscrone or the front nine at Royal County Down. If this nine ever merged with best holes of the Hackett course, Carne could some day rank among the 10 best links in Ireland. That would probably be the best way to get globe-trotting Americans to visit such a remote golf outpost.

Said it all before, cannot keep away from this piece of magic that is links golf, Everything seems to be perfect here, the golf, staff, food, locals, variety of holes. I would play all 27 holes every day if I could.
