Plum Creek Golf & Country Club
About
Legendary golf architects Pete Dye and Perry Dye designed the 18-hole, private course at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club, located in Castle Rock. Opened in 1984, the golf course features 7,044 yards of golf from its championship tees, playing to a par of 72. Dye included various different challenges in this golf course, causing some locals to say that it possesses some of the most difficult holes in the state. The hilly terrain of the well-bunkered course causes many uneven lies. Water hazards also come into play on some holes. Plum Creek Golf and Country Club boasts beautiful views of Castle Rock and the Rockies.

It's a shame
The course was once a TPC, nice club house, has been let go and is no longer well kept. New owner is not making necessary improvements. I'm concerned that it won't last much longer.
Course in great shape
I've played this course twice in the last week due to Golfnow's great pricing. I had read previous reviews, making me hesitant about driving the 45 minutes, but was pleasantly surprised on the condition. Fairways were filled in nicely and greens rolled very true. I agree with many of the reviews saying the cart paths and roads are in bad shape, but if its a choice of course maintenance vs. road upkeep I'm glad they chose putting the money into the course.
Very Good Course
I really enjoyed the course. It's a challenge with some tough tight holes, but very fair at the same time. Some very good Pete Dye holes on this course.
Great layout, challenging course, greens hard but fast and true
Very challenging Pete D\ye course with very good greens, although hard to hold in fall conditions. Greens true and fast.
The cart paths, and tee boxes etc are not being kept in great condition, but for the most part that does not affect play.
Great Pete Dye layout needs new owners.
Challenging fun layout. Maintenance lacking as current owners in bankruptcy. Somebody who cares needs to buy this course!!
Course is in good condition for late October
Greens are in great shape. It's a great course to play during the week...., easy to get a tee time on short notice.
Pretty course, but needs alot of maintenance.
Tight course designed by Pete Dye. Target golf on many holes. The driving range was a joke, but the course was in good shape, especially the greens. We enjoyed the course which was challenging. The facilities are in poor shape - signage at holes, buildings, cart paths, practice areas. The views of Castle Rock and mountain ranges were nice.
A no frills course.
Not for the high handicapper as there are blind spots that make finding wayward balls a challenge, for a capper at 90 or under then it is an ok to average course. The holes that have water in play are a challenge that pays for the confident player and one of the aspects to this course that makes it enjoyable.
My warm up and practice was intruded on by workman having to do maintenance on the putting green while i was using it and i still had 15 minutes left before i was due to start play.
The driving range does not have clear range distances so for any player trying to get a feel for lengths with their clubs may find that unhelpful.
Great value.
VERY nice course at a reasonable rate. Friendly, helpful staff. Country Club type atmosphere.
Nice challenging course with great views
First time playing this course. I liked it because it has some challenging holes and greens. The course itself is still in pretty decent condition, despite some of the bad reviews. It would help if everyone did their part to repair their divots on the greens and fairways. The cart paths got bad reviews---just drive around the bad parts---pretty simple. The only knocks about the course are no water stations or ball washers. Take your own water and a wet towel and you're good to go.
this course has a great features, i like it,
I will bring some friends to play here i love it,
this course has a great features, see ya soon,
had a great time at plum creek
We had a great time at plum creek and got a great deal on golfnow.com. played on a Thursday afternoon.
tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in pretty good shape overall. Probably not in as good as shape as it was in its prime but still a good tract.
I read other reviews before I booked that complained about clumpy rough, old carts, poor cart paths, tired clubhouse, and poor range balls. Here's my experience:
* cart was old but it got me around just fine.
* cart paths aren't pristine but who cares and they're not as bad as some people indicated. Those whiners should play some of the courses I used to play in Houston.
*club house is old school and could use updating but the beer was cold, the bartender was friendly, and they had a fine looking BBQ going outside
* clumpy rough. It's rough, it's not supposed to be fairway and there is supposed to be a penalty for being there. fairway and 1st cut were fine
*poor range balls. I didn't hit any and what I saw looked pretty tired but when I do hit them I'm just trying to loosen up. I'm not trying to dial in distances with range balls.
My advice is go and enjoy yourself. It's a fun, challenging course that can usually be played for less money than it's worth..
Good bang for your buck
The course was in great shape. I had read negative reviews, but I paid $60 and it was worth it. Aside from aerated greens, the tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. They had an outdoor grill, and the brat I had was delicious. My buddy and I agreed the layout was fair, not gimmicky (Fossil Trace), and challenging. We played the back tees, and enjoyed our round. I would play there every weekend if the cost were around $50.
The course has some great views!
The course was adequately price for a weekend rate. The course requires some attention in spots. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Their carts need some work. It felt as though I was off-roading a lot. With a little money and attention this course could be the country club it set out to be.
cheap not always better
a one time great course that's been run. into the ground. my first indication it. was going. to. be a bad day was a a group. of 12 guys lading there bags on there carts with. half of them wearing t shirts and even Jean shots..My second indicator was the pro shop it was baron no equipment and only a few items of clothing but for the most part the shelves we're empty. I paid my fee and loaded my bag on my cart. My third indicator.... the carts are old and clapped. out I had to. keep tightening the strap that held my bag it fell out twice.and the alignment was so. bad it sounded like you were skidding around a corner. The range balls were a complete joke out of a small bucket maybe 5 of them had dimples. The course itself was okay but needs quite a bit of work. We got to the 8th tee box after 2 hours and 10 minutes at this time we decided that was enough ...... we got a $15 credit towards our next tree time but I seriously doubt that I will ever go back....A one time beautiful course that's been run into the ground.....
forgotten gem
I've played Plum Creek 4 times over 18 yrs I don't know why I don't play it all the time it's a great layout. They do need to put some money in new range balls.
course in great shape, carts and cart paths in terrible shape.
course in great shape, carts and cart paths in terrible shape. THis is just extra text so that I reach the 50 character minimum....
Slow play really made round unbearable.
The round lasted over 5 hours and I never once saw a ranger out on the course. Terrible. Had to wait 5 plus minutes at every hole. Worst pace of play I have experienced in a very long time. The course was in good shape but the surrounding items such as concrete, etc. were not maintained either. Great price, $35, but couldn't take another plus 5 hours.
The course was in great shape and offers the Pete Day compliments to a good day of golf. Outstanding people at the club house.
Have not played there in years but it was in the best shape that I have seen it opened....based on my history of various owners and lack of maintenance. Price was great at $40....worth the gas to get there!! Just paid $100 to play Arrowhead....in great shape but not worth the money....would go to Plum Creek for $40...equally challenging and great condition....the view isn't worth $60.
See below
We were charged an extra $5 per round person. The course is in much better shape than last year.
