Plum Creek Golf & Country Club
About
Legendary golf architects Pete Dye and Perry Dye designed the 18-hole, private course at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club, located in Castle Rock. Opened in 1984, the golf course features 7,044 yards of golf from its championship tees, playing to a par of 72. Dye included various different challenges in this golf course, causing some locals to say that it possesses some of the most difficult holes in the state. The hilly terrain of the well-bunkered course causes many uneven lies. Water hazards also come into play on some holes. Plum Creek Golf and Country Club boasts beautiful views of Castle Rock and the Rockies.

nice course, some holes are challenging
I played early, great weather, good time!
Were a little slow but I was my partners.
A decent value for the money.
Some apparent sprinkler/irrigation leaks that require attention. Abundant Fairway divots could use attention and like most courses we repaired many ball marks on the Greens. Greens in good shape though. Course with character and various shots required for a good score. Plays fairly long from the back tees.
Overall worth the $45 GolfNow green fee w/ cart.
Great Course, Poor Maintenance
I have been playing Plum Creek for 5 years. For the first 2 years it had great ambience, a nice bar dining area with good food, good drinks and good specials. It was a bit run down, but it was still sort of shabby chic. As management changes were made over time, the food went away, the neighbors who congregated there left, the clubhouse and the course fell into greater and greater disrepair.
This is the first time I've played Plum Creek in 2013 and the course was in much poorer condition that I have ever seen it. Brown crusty patches spatter the once pristine fairways. The grass and hillsides surrounding the fairways are dry, dusty and brown. When we were members we used to play the course for $25 on weekdays. That was a smokin deal. I got a Golf Now tee time for $25 to play this week, and honestly, with the course in its current condition, it isn't worth more than that. What a terrible way to treat a marvelously designed Pete Dye course. I can only hope that someone who is a creative financial and marketing wizard with golf courses will get hold of this place before it is too late.
challenging course
very fun and challenging course. I would love to play the course once a week.
Challenging but great greens and nice fairways.
I liked it a lot. Plays moderate from the fairways but the greens add a challenge. If you miss the fairway the challenge level goes up due to the type of side hill lie you might get. The par 3s definitely reflect Pete Dye's touch. A good bargain. I've played there again and enjoyed it as much although the wind was up that day and so was my score. the tee times are 10 minutes apart providing good separation of groups.
Course is OK. Range is pathetic. Clubhouse is very dated.
The course layout is good but cartpaths and infrastructure is deteriorating. The range is horrible as are the practice balls.
The clubhouse, roads and walkways are badly in need of repair.
Getting better every week Summer 2013
This is my home course. I play it once or twice a week. It is a Pete Dye Design with all the classic elements included. The track is challenging but rewards good shots. Play from the short grass in order to score. It is hard to get up and down. The course is really playing nicely in mid-July. Greens are as good as I have seen them. The staff is very nice. The club house is aging but seems comfortable enough. The guy on the patio working the grill is pretty good. Brats and burgers are always nicely done.
Very reasonable and friendly atmosphere.
The course is super, and the staff was great. Actually gave us an additional $10 off and a free lunch to (seniors deal).
If you can play it for cheap, it's the right course.
The course continues to need some up keep from the harsh summer. There are a few dry spots throughout. The greens were in good shape though. If you can find a value on golfnow.com for the course, it's a great deal. I played 18 holes at twilight for $25 w/ cart. Would have loved it if the drink girl actually came around at some point during the round (it was 90+), but we never saw one.
I probably wouldn't pay more than $45 to play here. Anything less than that is a great deal.
Challenging but fun!
We enjoy playing this course, it is challenging but fun.
Course needs some money and then some TLC
Course design is pretty good, but the club is hurting for money and I'm not sure I've ever said that about a course. Unfortunately, almost everything is run down. The driveway, parking lot and cart path is crumbling - sad. The clubhouse is peeling paint everywhere and the range balls are pretty old. I feel bad giving a bad review, but unfortunately, the course is not worth more than $40 with cart.
Staff was nice and pace was pretty good.
Great layout and challenging
I've been golfing at Plum Creek for over 20 years and it is sad to see the amenities and the course deteriorating year by year. It is way to great of a course to let it continually slip away. I will golf here until they close it down.
Nice course, but....
This has always been a well kept, challenging course and at the "hotdeal" rate, usually well worth it. However, this last outing we tee'd off at 2:50 and didn't get nine in until 6pm! As we waited, once again at the turn, I rolled to the clubhouse to see about some sort of rain check as we certainly weren't going to complete the round before dark and were already weary after a 3-hr front side. The guy who was super friendly when I checked in said these things were to be expected, I got a great rate, etc then asked his buddy standing there, to which his buddy replied "oh yeah, I've had 4-hour nine holes..." Basically, take yer problem and stick it. I guess ownership has recently changed - there was 1-refreshment cart on the course and obviously ZERO marshals....
Good course for the money but slow pace
Great fairways and greens but dry rough with a slow pace of play but overall very good price and fun course to play!
5 hours to Play 13 Holes!!
Decided to try this course even after seeing some of the previous poor reviews. I knew this was a great course many years ago. My Mistake.... They started us on number 10. After 2 hours and 15 minutes finished 6 holes. Called clubhouse. They (Dan) said they had sent a marshal out 4 times to tell a fivesome to speed up.
Two singles joined us to make our foresome. One quit after 8 holes. The other after nine. Both paid for 18. 3 hours and 15 minutes to play nine. After 13 holes and 5 hours we called it quits... As did the group behind us. Marshal (young kid named taylor) was a cart shack when we pulled in. Told him it was not a very good day. He id not seem to care one bit.
The course was in poor shape. Burned up tees and rough. Fairways and greens were green but greens did not putt well. Many bunkers had grass grow into them. Otrhers needed much sand. Cart was terrible. It is obvious they are trying to save every penny. If I could give this course zero stars I would.
Frustrating
I find this course frustrating still to the day. If you are up for a challenge then it is great for you.
Great layout but not well maintained
I first played Plum Creek back in the early 90's and always loved it. It's a great design and actually hosted a senior PGA tournament back in the day - I was a standard bearer as a kid and remember seeing Arnie and Chi Chi Rodriguez play. The course always was lush and green and was a great challenge. I was disappointed to see how dry and run down the course was. The tee boxes were pretty ragged and there were sections of the fairway and just-off-the-fairway rough that were brown. The greens were decent. Still a great design. We had a 6:30am tee time which is how we played in 4 hrs. Can't comment on other times of the day.
Take the cart
As a rule, I prefer walking 18 than using a cart. There are a few courses that don't lend themselves to walking - not because of the terrain or the length "tee to green," but because of the distances between one hole to the next. Plum Creek is one of these courses.
The fairways and greens are in good shape, but the tee boxes are pretty beat up. It is worth the specials they run, just expect to take a cart.
Very nice and challenging course
Greens and fairways in good condition. It a great layout and there is never a boring stretch of holes. If you can pay under $50 for this course, that is a great value.
